  • The breed "Roya Bilbilitana" occupied a very wide territory that extended by the confluence zone of the provinces of Saragossa, Guadalajara and Soria. It is currently in the process of expansion, having undergone a very positive recovery. From an academic point of view Calatayud, a city close to the former Celtiberian Bilbilis, has been considered the epicenter of this ancient sheep population.
Authors who have studied their historical territory in Aragon have shown some difficulties in determining their limits.
It coincided in the northeast with the sierras of Arángida and Algairén, in the north with the foothills of the Moncayo, and in the south with the Sierra de la Santa Cruz.
Within this territory the same author delimits two nuclei where the racial purity was maximum. One of them between the rivers Jalón and Mesa, that comprised localities like Cabolafuente, Torrehermosa, Alconchel, Sisamón and limited with the provinces of Soria and Guadalajara. Also it describes a second nucleus more to the north, next to the Manubles river, that includes some soriano localities like Deza and other Aragonesas like Villalengua, Torrijo, Torrelapaja, Bijuesca and Berdejo.
The historical territory of the race in the provinces of Guadalajara and Soria has been little studied.
In the province of Guadalajara occupied the north-eastern end of Señorío de Molina, specifically the Mesa river head and a significant part of the highest moors in Maranchón. The race occupied a continuous and homogeneous territory that was clearly delimited by an imaginary enclosure formed by a set of municipal terms that exclusively exploited royo cattle. This enclosure contained to the localities of Fuentelsaz, Milmarcos, Labros, Anchuela, Turmiel, Clares, Balbacil, Codes and Maranchón, also including other localities like Amayas, Mochales, Villel de Mesa and Algar de Mesa.
In the province of Soria we observe the same phenomenon as in Guadalajara. Again it occupied a continuous territory delimited by an imaginary line that began its route between the municipal terms of Judes and Laina and entered progressively in the province. It crossed the river Jalón, between the localities of Somaén and Arcos de Jalón, and penetrated towards the Field of Gómara, encompassing municipal terms like Chrs, Momblona, Torrubia de Soria and Noviercas. This phenomenon has only been observed in the latter two provinces, since in Zaragoza it did not have a definite territorial limit, since race was diluted and disappeared progressively, as it moved away from its nuclear zones.
