    Great video. One tip I have for snow camping is not using your tent stakes but instead utilizing some branches from nearby trees instead. The snow will freeze overnight and it will be a chore to get your stakes back out in the morning. Your ice axe can help with this process, but instead if you find decent size sticks and place them sideways in the snow then pack more snow on top it will hold incredibly well and will be much easier to get in the morning. You will surprised how 4-6 inches old snow can hold the stick down incredibly well!
    Good luck on the PCT, I’m excited to follow along with the journey

    I hiked the PCT in 2020. Life changing experience, but after this years snowfall, I don’t think I would chance the Sierras. So much snow

    Thanks for sharing. Seeing what others have successfully used is very helpful. You had a full sized ice axe that you could also use as a cane on fairly flat surfaces. Do you feel a long one is necessary given what you saw of San Jacinto and the Sierras? Also, if owning the ice axe, no micro spikes to go with it?

    • @partybushiking
      @partybushiking  Před 7 měsíci

      Something to note about the ice axe is that even at full size it's tough to use as a cane. If anything in snowy / icy conditions, utilizing one trekking pole in one hand, and the ice axe in the other is typically the way to go. Put your ice axe in the hand where the mountain slopes upward. For instance if you're walking on the side of the mountain and you could fall to the right, your ice axe should be in your left hand. Ice axe is in case you were to fall, but micro spikes keep the traction on ice / snow. You most certainly want spikes, and ice axe together on snow and ice, especially where you could fall quite far on ice. Hope this helps!

    My dude, what are you packing that you can only put 3-4 days of food in a BV500?

    • @partybushiking
      @partybushiking  Před rokem

      Not sure man, it seems that 4ish days was the sweet spot. I also tried to eat a lot of calories while thru hiking. Backpacking I could get away with less food /day so would be more days of food but somethin about how I packed or the increase / day made it tough in that thing!
