Ok, it seems like I can say some words about hs^2 now. C'se the album, lol. Its not hs, but not in the bad sense. Its new era of homestuckers(sorry for the loud words). More softy, more anime, more sadness, more sweet love and hopes, more frustration. It feels like grave for all emotions, but you can hear the ghosts(?).The album have given to me more idea of the Beyond Canon, and finally have calmed me down. It finally feels completed, at some sense(?). And, at the end - I like that. The album is cool.
This song feels like a reunion that has already happened, but still isn't yet real, it has this odd sense of nostalgia and loss. But it feels like the new beginning at the same time. I'm excited to see what has yet to come.
||SPOILER|| I think it has already been confirmed that the medium and in retrospect skaia is going to be destroyed. skaia was always seen as this peaceful, amazing place, but the thought of that crashing into destruction while viewing a perhaps astonishing jewel or stone that is doomed to shatter is... corrupt. i love how these new authors are so self-aware that its even seen in the album art with ultimate dirk premusably jamming out to the actual homestuck albums.
Eqqroll- i saw a kotatsu at first glance too with the same pattern of the blanket from Jake’s room. I have no clue what else it could be, he is a weeb i guess?
im not too sure what this song could represent. part of me says that its about homestuck 2's storyline is supposed to be another experience, like this song is giving us a hint of whats to come beyond the horizion? but also, this song just sounds really distant and longing. idk
This song reminds me of when the dying teen Jade drifts into alt. Callie’s black hole, because the title is all in lowercase (alt. Callie’s typing quirk), the shard of paradox space Jade got impaled with and “firmament’s descent” sounds a LOT like the description of a black hole
Idea for what could happen at some point in the story: Since Ultimate Dirk was brought about by Candy Dirk dying, I wonder if John is in a perpetual state of almost dying in the Meat Route due to him being Captchalogued. If Terezi released Meat John, would we get Ultimate John? Same thing applies to any of the other characters that went God Tier aside from Vriska, of which there is only one from the session. (Not that it matters since the entirety of post-canon sucked anyways.)
I don't know if this helps (lmao this was made 2 years ago but I've gotten replies from older comments) but I'll chime in on my own headcanon sort of. Ultimate Self was completely a Dirk thing. The Heart aspect is all about the self after all, and you could see Dirk as being the completionist of Sburb. He would always improve because he hates himself, I wont explain his complexity. Since there was no problem, he would improve on himself without anything in the way of his progress. Eventually this led to the discovery of this Ultimate Self after he game-ends all his other selves in the other timelines (Destruction of the selves = prince of heart). The keyword is 'Self' because that's what the Heart is. For John, I think it would be more relating to his aspect. His retcon powers literally allow him to exist outside the rules of the narrative, which is an absolutely perfect combination of his classpect. So perhaps he'd be something akin to mspar by the end of pesterquest? Ultimate Entity? Ultimate Freedom? Maybe he has already achieved this by being dead, as he becomes free from the pressure and torture that he went through on Earth C. I realized I kind of popped off here so I'm gonna leave it for some poor soul to find 4 years in the future lmfao.
Unfortunately both Dirk's on-site narration and Muse Calliope's hindsight narration in the Meat route make it clear that John is dead before Terezi captchalogues him. But Homestuck seems to imply that all roads lead to the Ultimate Self regardless of whether the individual wants to ascend or not, so it's likely the universe could breathe some life into him once he's out of the card.
