- The M4A3 105 is known for being a bit of a bully in low tier War Thunder. Since it is a late WWII vehicle, I thought we could do a challenge where we bring it up against Tigers and Panthers instead.

Had to pull an all nighter to get this done, sorry if I missed anything
About the part at around 10 minutes where I repeat myself; I have a slight stutter that pops up sometimes and closed back headphones so I can't usually hear if I mess up a sentence, so I will often repeat myself. I just didn't cut that clip correctly because I had to rush.

There was an A1 upgrade version of the 105 made just at the end of the war with a power traverse that could be added, but I forgot Gaijin only adds T-80s and Leopard 2s now.
maybe they can add a modifiaction that make it an A1
I wish they cared about tanks and not just money.
To be fair
Gaijin also adds a lot of copy paste vehicles and a lot of SPH's that all play the same.

Day Thirty six of asking Spookston to play the SU-100 (The one based on the T-34).
The US Army tank company in WW2 consisted of a command section (two tanks) and three platoons (five tanks each) for a total of seventeen tanks. Under the original TO&E in 1942, a medium tank company would consist of fifteen M4A3/75 Shermans, distributed among the three platoons, while the command section (consisting of the Company CO and XO in separate tanks) would consist of M4A3/105s. The US Army doctrine of the time emphasized that tanks would mostly engage non-armored targets like enemy infantry in fortified positions, and this reflected in the organization and armament of the company. The three platoons would spearhead the attack with their 75 mm gun (which had a very powerful HE shell) with the command section in the rear as a reserve. If the 75 mm Shermans ran into an obstacle that they couldn't destroy, one of the command Shermans would then roll up with its howitzer to blast it into rubble.
At least in theory anyway.
In actuality, the 75mm gun was recognized as inadequate when the Germans unveiled their Tiger and Panther tanks, leading to the improvisational introduction of the M4A3/76 in 1944. After dustups with heavily armed German panzers in France, the M4A3/105 was eventually passed out from frontline tank companies and turned into an assault gun for the infantry divisions, joined later by Sherman 75s displaced from the armored divisions following the Battle of the Bulge. IRL it was as disliked as it is in War Thunder, due to its limited antitank capabilities, the inconsistent performance of its M68 HEAT shell, and the fact that the 105 mm howitzer was not very effective even in the infantry support direct fire role. Great Britain was given its own version, built on the original M4 Sherman, under the designation Sherman IB or the HVSS equipped Sherman IBY.

If you tab out of the game, the turret will move into realistic resting position, aka fully backwards, and you can use the Q and E buttons to set it to auto fowards
Tigers didn't have a clamp on the rear, so there's nothing realistic about it
But yes, using autodrive and tabbing out will often result in the turrer spinning around for some reason

Day 92 You should play a tank with hydropneumatic suspension (recommend the MBT-70) But the catch is you have to drop the suspension as low as it can go for the whole match.

The only real issue I find is that the 105 Shermans had a horizontal turret traverse of 21°/s in real life, but for some reason Guyjaybin decided that it should be exponentially slower.
I have no idea why. You can even see a few videos of people hand cranking the turrets, and it is quite fast in comparison to this.
When American tanks were first added there was a historical event based on the tanks present during D-Day. The every german team was exclusively panthers and jagdpanthers and the only American tank that could kill anything was the M4A3 with HE. Needless to say, historical matches did not catch on

Very interesting. So far, I have only used HEAT shells on this tank - with mixed results. I didn't expect that after changes in HE operation, it would be possible to destroy tanks so effectively with overpressure, with calibers smaller than 155 mm. I have to try it, also with the Hi Cha Short Gun 122mm.

Hi Mr Spook, idk if you already know this but you can "auto-fire" by holding LMB when you transition from binos to gunsight so you don't have to lazer eyes the tank for too long

I think that one really only has a manual turret traverse because they were used as mobile artillery by the marines in the Pacific.
This vehicle is rather good in Gates of Hell - Ostfront, because there you actually can appreciate light howitzers for what they are - weapons for infantry support, not a tank-destroyer equipment.

when i first got the m4a3 105 i grinded the hell out of it. i spaded it within an hour and i still troll a little with it, im actually a pretty big fan of the tank.

I recall actually quite liking this thing, pretty good front armor, and the HEAT worked quite well for me. And I normally suck at the game.
I love playing low tier stuff at higher tiers and doing better than one would assume, I had a game this morning in the premium Panzer 4 J at top tier, I got 2nd place on the team, 8 kills, 2 assists, a cap, and no deaths, was 400sp from a nuke and the 1st place guy did get one, but the enemy team bled out our tickets before he could drop it, I was cackling the whole time lol
in my experience of playing the 105 sherman, i find it fun, sure the turret traverse sucks but you have pretty good body turning and i like the mobility. Its not s good tank its a fun tank
Tbh sometimes I actually do well with this thing at 5.0 - 6.0 so now this thing has a permanent place in my lineup as a meme
