I love this book!!! I’m bummed (and surprised) so many people didn’t enjoy it. But you’re right, nostalgia sells. Thats def. what got me.

I finished reading this book recently. I loved the idea of the Scooby doo for grown ups idea. And I found the story pretty good. But I was very put off by the switch from prose to script style and moments where it was almost self aware with lines like "Andy spat at the intended end of the chapter" and "in a side paragraph, Andy put the anonymous farewell under the lamp" really made it a struggle to get through for me
I really enjoyed both books, nothing to say about the writing style

it was super disappointing. such potential though. hopefully someone else can write a great scooby doo retelling :p
Well I recommend you give it a go yourself. It is one of my favorite books of all time. In fact, I had a similar experience with this video that the reviewer had with the book. I was super excited to hear her review, but super disappointed and it really fell flat.

I actually just ordered this book the other day because I had heard it was like Scooby Doo, now I'll definitely go in with lower expectations :/ hopefully I'll still like it, though!! Fingers crossed

goodreads was recommending me this book and I was gonna buy it but then your video popped up on my rec and aww it's too bad that you didn't like the book :/ I don't often read horrors, Rosemary's Baby was the only horror I've read and I absolutely love it. I love the writing style and how it was more character-driven than horror. Do you have any recs?
Rosemary's Baby has been one that I've been meaning to read for years. I really gotta pick it up soon :)
Ohh I'm sorry that you were disappointed! I kinda liked it, but maybe bc I never watched Scooby-Doo (shame on me!!! I'm gonna get to it one day!!!). I wasn't even that much into the story as such, but I liked the representation of trauma and panic attacks. And of course, the gay.
But I sooo agree about the writing style- I remember thinking that I liked the story but that I wouldn't be interested in reading another book by this author.
I've had my eye on this for a while but I never seem to get to it!

the cover for this has always drawn me in but i’ve always felt oddly hesitant to read it. one of my friends didn’t like it much for the same reasons you stated, which kinda sucks bc that cover is amazing 😆
