That is an extraordinary find. However can you draw and animate in the style that it teaches?
@@showman139 Hey there! Yes it was quite a great find. I am not much into the animation side of things, but if you pause and screenshot some of the video, you can see that there is a progression to how the drawings are made, and you can start with simple round/organic shapes to make certain parts of your character, then connect those shapes and fill them out!
My favourite exercice is the strut, I did it twice with some extra inbetween for my second try, so the movement was really smooth.
@@madjidchouarbi3921 Nice! Yea there are a lot of really helpful tips in this book, as well as some exercises.
@@VincitDesignCoall of them!
That Preston Blair book was one of my dad's most used resources. He animated at Disney from 1977-2002 (Phil Young, you can find him in most of the animated films from that era.)
That's truly amazing! Wow thanks so much for telling me, and for checking out this video. It's definitely a book I cherish. I know he has updated versions (like the one I linked in the description), but this one just has so much character. Super great.
I worked with your dad , Phil Young, at Disney and also at Filmation. Phil was one of the great animators who is not as well-known as some others, but he should be ! A great artist and a wonderful human being.
Wow!
Wow, please tell me more.@@david_t_nethery_animator
Preston Blair
The man who created the best red haired girl
When you fust pulled out that book I went wait a minute isn't that the thing that my dad had in that old box in the attic, sure enough it was the same book lol
Haha! Nice! That's great, yea there are quite a many of these, but sometimes they can be hard to find.
My grandma had this book and I have it now, she was a head technical drawer for a engineering company and made technical drawings for many power plants around the world.
That's super cool!
I’ve had this book since around 1985. Definitely one of my favorites.
That's awesome! Yea it's a GEM for sure.
Had that “how to” book in high school in the ‘70’s ! Loved it! I still have it in my large library of art books… ❤️
That's awesome! Yea this book is definitely a treasure to me.
Thank you so much for this! I really want to animate some very short stuff by hand in Disney's old style. This is really helpful.
That sounds like an awesome goal! If you do, def tag me on Instagram so I can see your drawings! @vincitdesignco
Awesome! I want to design characters as a job (preferably for Disney) and I was researching about character design and I came across this.
@@todorokisfavouriteobject9109 That's so cool! Yes working for Disney would be awesome. I am glad this video helped fuel your inspiration!
I still have that Animation book; I got it as a kid back in the 1960's, for Christmas. Its a great book!
That is super cool!
WOW! I remember getting this book back in the mid 70s. With assistance of my father, I built animation light table from instructions provided in this book. Great memory!
That's sooo cool! Thanks for sharing!
i have this same book now in my hands
That's great!
That book is gold. And so is your video for showing it. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I really loved this video. Thanks for making it!
Absolutely! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Did you have a favorite section in the book?
Also the gloves like old school Disney😉 I love everything about this video❤️❤️💕
Haha well the gloves are meant to protect the pages from the oils on my hands, since it's so old. But you are right! Kind of fits!
This is the book I used to learn how to draw way back
That's great!
Wowwww this is so coool thanks for sharing this with us!!💕💞 words can’t describe how much thankful I am😭❤️
Wow! So glad you enjoyed it! I love finding old stuff like this and sharing it so that more people can fall in love with it!
So cool, I owned this when I was a little boy in the 80s and 90s. I wish I still had it!
That's cool! Yea this was a neat little find.
there was a bunch of those books in my college library, studied it a lot
That's awesome!
Thanks so much for this video!!! I found the book on eBay and I sent it to my mom, and now I’m gonna get one for Christmas! IM SO EXCITEDDD.
That's so awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the video man, very direct and informative. Awsome magazine!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow this takes me back to my animations days in the 80s. I recall most of those pages. I have another one with Preston Blair the front cover is blue and its about 'How To Animate Film Cartoons' I also have a signed copy of The illusion of life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston who i met back then as well. Fun memories ; )
That's amazing! Thanks for watching!
This book is about Tex Avery style of animation rather than disney. But I can swear it has all you need to learn how to animate. For me this book is far better than Eric Goldberg's the animation crash course.
Glad you like it!
This is actually a revised edition since the original print used model sheets from MGM cartoons of the time (Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery, etc), but once Blair got found out, he got hit with a cease and desist until he decided to trace and replace the likeness of the characters with new, non distinct ones
Love this thank you for sharing I love cartooning
So glad you liked it!!
What a great video. Really enjoyed looking through that
Glad to hear it!
I came here because I saw you in Think Media and I think your channel has a lot of potential. I love your content! I am subscribing. Keep it up👍
Thanks so much for your kind words! Appreciate it!
I had to buy the updated version last year and just adore it!
Glad you like it!
do you have a link for the updated version ? :)
i have the same book, my dad bought it for me when I was little, sadly the condition is very poor now but all the pages are there! its super helpful
That's awesome! I'm glad the video was helpful, it's tough to find these in good condition sometimes!
Thanks for this!
You are most welcome!
Thanks man!
Most welcome!
Thx, just bought one!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Fantastic!
Glad you liked it!
The man cares about a book... Well that's great, and I was pretty interested in the book.
Thanks! Yes, I definitely want to preserve these older books for as long as possible, they are already quite brittle!
I used it and others like it teaching art in the 90s
That's awesome!
Thank you, you are very professional yet so underrated! I hope youll blow up soon on youtube!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Dude, that's insane. Sick score. Thumbsed upped and subscribed.
Yes! Definitely a prized possession.
I have that book.
Awesome! It's a great one.
I have the GYM tomorrow at 6 am and go out at 9 am, afternoons watching CZcams at 6:30 pm and 11 pm go out to sleep in bed. I want to see in CZcams 👀❤️🔥
omg i have this book!
That's so cool!
Thank You for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I think i need that book
I linked his most recent updated one! You can check it out.
Never thought there will be a book to teach how to draw Disney style like this 😆
Is there a similar one for ghibli? 🤣
That would be amazing! Now I'm going to look for a Ghibli style one haha. I love that drawing style and those are some of my favorite movies!
@@VincitDesignCo Please go for it
cant wait for that unboxing video 😂
There was an explosion of “how to draw in anime-style” books about 10 - 15 years ago…
I had it! ❤❤❤
At the time I was very frustrated because I didn't know English and I thought that in those captions there were spells to draw so well.
Thanks mom and dad
So cool that you had it!
For decades this was THE manual for animators. I mean THE manual, there were virtually no other instruction books available until The Art of Animation came out.
For sure! It's amazing how detailed each little piece of the sketch is.
Thank you for this i want to be a Disney animator when I'm older.
Awesome! That is a great goal. Hope you get there!
Wow I want one!!!
I think you can still find these online and in various antique stores! I think you can grab one for around 10 to 15 dollars U.S.
@@VincitDesignCo Thank you I found a similar one by the same author online 😃😃
@@user-kz7fj3cd7c Great!!
ok wished i asked for this for christmas
You can find the book online I'm sure! Check on Ebay. I've seen some there for cheap.
It would be reeeeeally kind from you if you could create a pdf with all the pics of the pages and then upload it in the description😁
Haha as long as that is legal I would be glad to do so! I'll look into that
summer child, try to google it, you might find it
www.welcometopixelton.com/downloads/Animation%20by%20Preston%20Blair.pdf This one is a PDF of the book, but it's a little blurry. I'll update it if I find one that is less blurry!
@@hdsandtoes5211 Oh wow! Where exactly did you find that? Can you give me the original housing link? I'm not sure how they are allowed to do this unless Disney has allowed it to be free. From my research I can't find anywhere that it is part of the Public Domain Yet because it's not old enough. And unfortunately, many of Disney's assets will never be public domain if they are original characters drawn by animators.
@@hdsandtoes5211 klutchhh
3:37 when I draw my bird charectar, reg I do this weird wing thing with two fingers lol
Interesting!
This feels more warners than disney but still very cool
Glad you liked it.
I still have that book!
You have this one here in print!?
@@VincitDesignCo I still have my copy that was given to me as a gift years ago, yes :)
@@kellyschmader213 That's super cool! Yes I have gained so much inspiration from it, super cool.
That's my goal because I want my own Animation company
That's awesome!! Well best of luck to you!
I had that long time ago, last century 1977.
Nice! Yea I am super glad I got to find an original copy, despite the scribbles on it.
@@VincitDesignCo You are very lucky, indeed. I had this material in my hands bought at a retail business called VALUE GIANT long out of business in San Francisco. It was on a magazine rack with other similar items which by the way is where I also coincidentally picked up my very first copy of John Byrne's Charleton Comics Doomsday Plus One. I was around eight years old in 1977.
I had this book shame i dont have anymore
Grab a new copy!
i have that book
Nice! It's a great one!
1000. Subscriber!!
Thanks so much! that really means a lot!! Cheers
Wow I can get a job as an Illustrator! 😱😎😎😱
With practice, I absolutely believe so.
MEMORIES
For sure!
Yes hands are so difficult 😂
For sure!
This book looks more like Warner Brothers than Disney.
A lot of animators hopped around.
Hi I'm danny
Thanks for watching!
I don’t understand why you got a 1940s edition of this? You can get a new printing at Blick.
I have his newest edition of this, which is also linked in the description. But this one is pretty much antique now, so it's cool to have for the novelty.
Which one do you have now and which one do you prefer?
@4:37: Why am I reminded of an Eminem movie rap when I see this?
No clue!
This book is still sold…….
Yep, you can either find copies of the original on Ebay or in antique stores, or you can purchase the newest edition I linked up in the description.
Looks like looney tunes animation
There are a ton of similarities, and a lot of the animators I believe worked at multiple studios.
Why do you need gloves?
Great question! You certainly don't have to use gloves, but I want to preserve the pages for as long as possible, and since these pages are very old and brittle, the oils on your fingers can damage the paper further and make them wither faster, so a pair of cotton serving gloves will make sure no oil get's on the paper!
@@VincitDesignCo legend
The Royal Society has taken a different approach to handling archived books. They no longer wear gloves. They found they did more damage to the pages when fumbling with gloves. They no longer wear gloves when handling books and manuscripts.
For meaning to have viewers stop the video and take screen shots there sure wasn't a lot of opportunities without your left hand in the way and/or your right casting a shadow. The later pages shown weren't even all the way in frame. Good first effort i suppose, but i'm still going to have to get a real copy of the book to actually see it. I don't like the "fancy programs"....
Yea, this was literally just me showing a cool find. The updated version of that book, by the same author, is linked in the description if you'd like it. :)
1 Corinthians 11:14 KJV - Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
Muita conversa fiada
Yep, because I was just giving my thoughts while showing the book.
This CLICK BAIT. You said that YOU were going to teach us how to draw a Disney animater... 🤨
This book will show you how to do it. The thumbnail is literally a screenshot from the book, so that there is no wondering about what you are going to see. Sorry if it was unhelpful to you, but Preston Blairs latest edition to this book is available for purchase, and it is absolutely helpful for achieving the style of old Disney animators.
that was very cool. you got a new sub bro!
Thanks a ton! Glad you enjoyed the video.
