I don't know if it's the writing or acting or what...but it's scenes like this that is missing from modern science fiction....a lot of scifi is taking itself waaaaay too seriously...scifi is supposed to be fun and a great way to escape...dont get me wrong...scifi has always tackled real life problems...but they've always seemed to balance it out with light heartedness...scenes like this need to make a comeback
probably partly writing, partly improvizing on the stage. The issue with modern sci-fi is, that many actors don´t play together for such long time, as R. D. Anderson and Michael Shanks did and thus they don´t have wits needed to do such improvization. Also, not many series can have these funny antics between multiple characters either due to the script, or due to relationships of said characters (also count in political correctness, which is doing a lot of damage actually).
Jack,”How are things in the higher plane?” Classic SG1. Love how the algorithm has brought me back here for the once every 3 yrs SG1 highlights tour. Thanks Algorithm!
It knew that while you can be serious, you can't be super dark broody serious all the time. Sometimes you need to relax and crack a smile. Supernatural's writers figured that out and that's why it's running into it's fourteenth season right now. It's a pity they cut Atlantis short and brought out Universe which did a pretty ass awful job.
@@ArlanKels Well, we had Amanda Tapping and Micheal Shanks in SN, too. That reminded me of the good old days. And SN is really a great show. Absolute favorite and i copmpare it to SG
Later on in this episode sg1 are in the briefing room discussing Daniel and teal'c also admits that he's also seen him I always feel sorry for Sam as she's the only one who hasn't seen him
It's funny that Michael Shanks leaving led to a series of events that gave us one of the greatest arcs in the franchise, I kinda wish he didn't join the team again as his human self and stayed on in this capacity and kept Anubis as the main villain moving forward
To me, Daniel seemed very un-Daniel-like while he was Ascended. So many of the things that felt very core to his character before that, he either seemed to drift away from, or just didn't come up. He seemed much more himself again, once he was human again. It's almost like... being human is part of what makes us who we are.
Star trek is fantastic as well. ;). Atlantis was cooler but sg1 is fantastic as well. Thing is i think what made atlantis is better is that every character is flawed. You dont see it alot in sg1.
I would put Fringe as 1, Babylon 5 as 2 and Expanse as 3. If the expanse continues being as good as it is, then it will rise to 1 eventually, but for now... Fringe/Babylon 5 remains the best. Only reason I rate fringe slightly higher is because fringe was good from start to end, while babylon 5 wasn't as good at the end (it wasn't bad, but just not as good).
the moment he tried to interfere, someone would swoop in snatch his ass out of our reality, and strip him of his powers then leave him a naked amnesiac on some distant planet.
Ascended beings have their own version of Star Trek's Prime Directive, though that only seems to matter for each individual plot because it gets bent (not fully broken) pretty often and the rest of the pack doesn't do anything until the plot needs them to.
Yes, but if he'd held the knowledge of the Ascended in his head, it would've blown his nervous system. That's why Oma did it. Daniel, or any other physical human being, would have their minds / brains crushed by such nearly infinite knowledge.
Until he needed Ritalin to stay awake (end of season 6, all of season 7) delivering his lines like an Alzheimer patient. I know i know, im being harsh, he had personal problems.
I mean... I understand the reason as to why he can't interfere... but when Daniel puts it forth like how he said that last sentence, you'd have to be thinking "god, who would ever want to be an ascended being?" So impotent; all the powers you could imagine and so unable to ever interact, ever use them.
@@lauralynnasteriahathaway6819 Oh, they CAN do many things. Daniel could have killed/destroyed Anubis there. "The other" just wouldn let him and Anubis knew that.
@@Fion355 Yeah, I know that they are capable of doing things in our plane. I was responding to the original commenter @MetallSwede that an ascended being can do a lot of things on their own plane, and we just never get to see it. They are experiencing untold, incomprehensible wonders and it would be very worth it to ascend. They probably use their powers in their own plane all the time, exploring the universe, fighting the Ori, they just have to leave us alone. I love this scene so much. An ascended being he may be, but Daniel still has to go along with Jack's antics to get anything done.
