These cars have provided great joy for me over the years. I love everything about these cars. The horns are great, and I just adore the railfan window. I have probably made more railfan window rides aboard these on CZcams than anyone and I keep going. I’ve gotten a lot of criticism for these cars being of low quality, not lasting long and being ugly, but it doesn’t dissuade me one single solitary bit. They are among the greatest MU’s
The Silverliner 5s have different codes. 1. Local service - Nothing next to it. 2. Express service - Red (EXP) Coding. 3. Limited service - Blue (LTD) coding.
I too survived SEPTA-geddon, a couple City Transit division strikes and 2008 Phillies parade (not to mention my train pulling down the overhead catenary wire just north of Fern Rock). Though the Vs are better in many respects to the II/IIIs, and in some to the IVs I preferred the IVs seats and ride. I recall the Vs had a distracting vibration even in the center of the car. Am not sure it was the frequency or amplitude (mayb was just me). And the IVs also have a bit more over-the-shoulder privacy next the two bulkheads on either side of the center vestibule. In other words the IVs offered some premium seating with more leg room & privacy in the center vestibule & a solid wall behind you in the seats just outside.
the V's are just really good looking trains. I was excited when I went to Denver for the first time and saw them on the A line going into Union Station from the airport
10:34 you used a Comet I picture. Comet IIMs look similar but have bigger stripes and destination signs; Comet IVs are identical but with center doors. I believe only 1 ALP-46 and 1 Comet V was actually used on SEPTA service in 2016. 11:06 I only remember MARC equipment being on the Wilmington/Newark and Media/Elwin lines. Great episode nevertheless. Some errors but they’re tolerable
I Remember MARC Equipment being used on the Paoli line. My dad's gf occasionally rode it to work in the morning and I remember seeing it on occasion on the line too.
I remember commuting to and from Drexel during the summer of 2016 on the Paoli Thorndale line. Trains would easily be filled by the time you reach Paoli. And we’d have to go all the way to Philly and skipping the rest of the intermediate stops because the trains were overcrowded.
The Silverliner 5s are often seen on SEPTA Train services such as... #6480: Warminster LTD. #9759: Trenton EXP. #4846: Fox Chase. #306: West Trenton EXP. #9241: Wilmington LTD. #9595: Thorndale EXP. #5250: Norristown EXP. #9349: Wawa EXP. #2522: Doylestown EXP.
I noticed they aren’t running that many Silverliner five train sets lately maybe about five or six on weekdays. They got all those new cars and they’re wasting them. I love to make head end rides on the railfan windows and I haven’t been there in over a year I’m gonna start going back next week to do some more of them
I’m living north of Denver right now, and I take RTD’s commuter rail network into the city. Love those Silverliners! Also I personally like E-bells, deal with it.
Only 1 is confirmed to be preserved. Silverliner II 9001 which is stored on SEPTA property but will be going to the Reading museum in Hamburg PA sometime soon.
Nice and for the AEM-7 they actually entered on December 8 1987 since there is an Allentown Morning Call article about that if you were to search it. the obvious solution would be electrifying Lansdale to Bethlehem with I-78 exit 67 Hellertown Park and Ride. because that was the original Reading RR plan
SEPTA-geddon - up to 20 minutes late: SEPTA, u can count on your RR train being late except on the one day u really need it to be. ;) Still, SEPTA sure beats driving into center city on weekdays on the "Sure Kill Crawlway." Or SEPTA beats walking from Jenkintown to Bethayres station in the snow (done it).
Both AEM-7s, the ALP-44, and leased ACS-64s pulled express sets during SEPTAgeddon. The leased ACS-64s were preferred however due to their younger service age and to help familiarize crews with them as SEPTA had purchased an order for ACS-64s of their own which are all now in service.
Not to troll but I strongly dislike the Silverliner V cars, and prefer the VI cars over the Vs. For one thing, the seats on the Vs are not as comfortable to sit in as the VIs. I also really hate the exterior because it just doesn't look right. The interior and exterior don't look as good as the previous four versions BUT the only thing I actually like about the Silverliner V cars are the monitors above some of the seats.
Can you please make a video about the DC Metro's 2009 crash? It's technically a subway, but it was designed to be a commuter/subway hybrid. Thanks either way.
Most likely no. I'll try to focus on other equipment for now and I won't be just talking about regional vehicles, I'll touch on subway cars, Trolleys, the diesels, and of course the ancient EMUs and diesels, even the Ex RDG F units will get mention
I caught a few Silverliner Vs and IVs when I was down in Newark Delaware this past week, but I didn't see any of them with a "State of Delaware" Decal on them. Here's the video: czcams.com/video/54MThcdQycU/video.html
It sounds like a woman on the Vs too. But as said in the video passengers and even crews prefer the good old manual PA system like on the IVs or shouting in between cars like in the old days
No because half of them aren't even in service yet. Next is the J.G Brill bullets of the NHSL. I'm not just doing Regional vehicles otherwise it'd be a very short series
Married Pair? I didn't know trains could have babies! How stupid of me! JK! LOL! Anyway congratulations on 1.1K+ Subs.
BNSF 8010 LOL good one lol
kek
LOL I was waiting for someone to make that joke!
That means they are permanently welded together.
They won't have babies as long as the train pulls out on time :-)
that should be a t-shirt "I survived Septa-geddon"
That's honestly a good merch slogan idea.
Well now it’s in the Kerch shelf but I can’t afford it :( I wish I could so I can support you Thunder!
3:41, YOU WUT M8? (Dies laughing)
I laughed to death when you said "wait a minute wrong photo"😆

I would love to see ready-to-run scale models of these EMUs in HO Scale.
The Silverliner Vs are, without a doubt, my favorite SEPTA Vehicles.
First glance at the title I read 'SEPTIC' Silverliner. (note to self: book optician's appointment soonest)
Florida East Coast is like my 2nd local train line!
Silverliner Vs: -is broken-
Amtrak Marc and NJT: Like a good neighbor, State farm is there
The Silverliner 5s have different codes.
1. Local service - Nothing next to it.
2. Express service - Red (EXP) Coding.
3. Limited service - Blue (LTD) coding.
Yes I've been waiting so long

9:29 Springtime for the Silverliner V's
I owe a lot to those cars. Love them!!!
I miss the Wabco AA2's on the Silverliners.
the V's are just really good looking trains. I was excited when I went to Denver for the first time and saw them on the A line going into Union Station from the airport

Septa during septaggetion: we are so screwed
Amtrak Marc and NJT: 10:11
The horns on the Denver ones sound like K3H that MBTA CTC-5 cab cars have.
This week I saw the silverliner v

LMAO when you were about to show us the horn when the horn horned my phone ringed Andi did not here the horn *PERFECT TIMING*

Septa-geddon
Never forget XD
OMG YAS I BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS VID THANK U :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd
Have any of the old Silverliners been preserved?
Only 1 is confirmed to be preserved. Silverliner II 9001 which is stored on SEPTA property but will be going to the Reading museum in Hamburg PA sometime soon.
@@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren I would love to see scale models of them at some point.
9:09 BRRRR
Oh, the Silverliner 5s have different codes on their panels.
1. Local Service: Nothing next to it.
2. Express: Red Coding.
3. Limited: Blue Coding.
Sadly Philly’s Hyundai Rotem plant is no more.
What happened?
Pacific Productions yeah, what happened to the plant?
Nice and for the AEM-7 they actually entered on December 8 1987 since there is an Allentown Morning Call article about that if you were to search it. the obvious solution would be electrifying Lansdale to Bethlehem with I-78 exit 67 Hellertown Park and Ride. because that was the original Reading RR plan
3:41 U WOT M8?
Anyone know how much power one single unit outputs?
How nice
Oh Nice
2:26 I saw a set of those Delaware 5’s on the paoli thorndale line a few days ago
I love the e bell tho
844? I didn't know 844 can turn into a Septa V!
LOL
what's wrong with E-bells?
I kinda find them too common and a bit annoying.
I’m a Green Bay Packer’s fan and those are the K3LAs that Metra’s cab cars use.
Cool
7:31?NO RTD ONES!
I can still hear those rtd silverliners from 5 miles away in denver
SEPTA-geddon - up to 20 minutes late: SEPTA, u can count on your RR train being late except on the one day u really need it to be. ;) Still, SEPTA sure beats driving into center city on weekdays on the "Sure Kill Crawlway." Can you do the Septa broad street line B-IV cars plz
4:33 Go Eagles!
I want to see a video of the ACS-64s
Do the market frankford line
YES
I can’t wait till you do the acs-64’s
k3las are similar to those on wes commuter rail. also the horns on rtd are k3ls canadian tuned
Yay!!! Love the yay voice
I saw 2 of the Delaware ones today
Reno's New tram system: WE'LL HAPPILY TAKE THE SILVERLINERS 2 3 AND 4'S!!!!!!
Really!?
Correction on the RTD Silverliners. The numbers are 4001-4066.
Jeremy Sur I found that out too. I know I live in Denver.
Why does the panel say septa when they are not leading
The 5's were known as the "2010 new children"
What do you mean express sets were pulled by toasters when Septa was in trouble???
Both AEM-7s, the ALP-44, and leased ACS-64s pulled express sets during SEPTAgeddon. The leased ACS-64s were preferred however due to their younger service age and to help familiarize crews with them as SEPTA had purchased an order for ACS-64s of their own which are all now in service.
And the noristown fleets are next right?
Yes first the bullets, then it's the troublesome N5s
Psst. 6:23 *In background* Undertale intensifies.
It is never good that you hate E-bells (I love them) Will you do the ACS-64 ever?
No. They haven't even been in a full year of service yet and have little to no history behind them yet.
The new kids? I thought they were just born! NVM! Btw good job getting a lot of subs.
Yes
Thx for the mic problem
Was the propulsion system made in-house by Hyundai or supplied by Mitsubishi or Bombardier??
Why no shots of the cab interiors and controls?
At 6:12 there is sans music and if you know the memes like me, that’s cool for a train video
you should do engines of septa market frankford line
Is this thing still on? Shoot how do I fix it
Not to troll but I strongly dislike the Silverliner V cars, and prefer the VI cars over the Vs.
I think you mean the IVs as the VIs haven't been built yet and wont be on the scene til the 2030s
Can you please make a video about the DC Metro's 2009 crash? It's technically a subway, but it was designed to be a commuter/subway hybrid. Thanks either way.
3:39 2019 wot m9?
My favorite septa engine is silver liner 2
I subed!
Do you have any idea when the supposed silverliner six will be coming to septa?
5:23 sounds like a metra cab car
Same horn. K3LA. Florida East Coast uses them too.
Thunderbolt 1000 Siren Productions check out my channel metra Fan365
One question. Is the SEPTA ACS-64 gonna be the 9th episode of Engines of SEPTA?
Most likely no. I'll try to focus on other equipment for now and I won't be just talking about regional vehicles, I'll touch on subway cars, Trolleys, the diesels, and of course the ancient EMUs and diesels, even the Ex RDG F units will get mention
6:14 Footage of European tram accelarating (2018)
Hey what if the silverliner 4 and silverliner v had wabco aa2
*Inserts epik boss sans music*
E bells aren’t that bad, I am too used to them.
I hear them on most of the NS freights in my area
Sounds like Mta R179
I caught a few Silverliner Vs and IVs when I was down in Newark Delaware this past week, but I didn't see any of them with a "State of Delaware" Decal on them. Here's the video: czcams.com/video/54MThcdQycU/video.html
Nice
K3L horns on the Denver cars. Same as MBTAs Hyundai Rotem cab cars.
About the robotic voice we have the same technology here in Germany on the class 425 but it sounds more like a woman voice
It sounds like a woman on the Vs too. But as said in the video passengers and even crews prefer the good old manual PA system like on the IVs or shouting in between cars like in the old days
Looks like the EL
Yaaaaaassss
i noticed the nys m8 on metro north
you wot mi? i wouldnt think trains talk! just kidding! LOL! btw, you did good on you subs.
Why are you using the song Angel Eyes in your intro?
Angel Eyes?
@@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren you know the song made in the 80s
Lime angel eyes i meant
@@MetxsightseerRailfan That was not Angel eyes. That was Snowdin Town by Toby Fox used in Undertale.
10:39 Not be a bother but you used a Picture of a Comet III for the Comet IV. Just a little heads up ;)
They look similar but I'm not surprised I mixed the 2 up. thanks
Yup
2:40
What's a married pair
Its basically 2 Silverliner cars put together into One 2 Car Unit.
Does SEPTA have ebells on their Silverliner Vs?
Nope. None of the Silverliners have or had bells.
Isn't 881 attached to 882 as a married pair?
Yes
when is the washington crash?
You won't m8?
next is the acs-64 now right?
No because half of them aren't even in service yet. Next is the J.G Brill bullets of the NHSL. I'm not just doing Regional vehicles otherwise it'd be a very short series
MEGALOVANIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally I love Hopes and Dreams waaaaaay more lol
NJ Transit lent some shit? I feel bad, have you heard what it's like for commuters going in and out of NY Penn?
