@FinnKitten123 I replaced my whinning hard drive with a 500GB M2 drive, as my MoBo had a second slot for M2 (M2 Pcie only, not M2 SSD). Cost me $80-, but huge reduction in noise, and faster speed, especially boot up.
My noisest component now is my stock AMD CPU cooler, but with the PC under my desk I'm ok with that, its quiet and lower pitch hum compared to that horrible high pitch spinning hard drive. So I'll leave the CPU cooler untiI I feel like upgrading to dedicated CPU cooler to achieve a totally silent PC.
Note my graphics card, a second hand EVGE 980 Ti has the fan stop mode, for total silence when in office work mode of low spec gaming. I think most cards have the fan stop mode now but worth checking if you are buying a GPU and a silient PC is what you want, at least in 'office/browsing mode'.

5:50 my 500gb seagate 7200.12 from 2009 isn't loud at all. i bought a new 1tb barracuda this 2021, it sounds like a popcorn machine all the time so i bought 1tb western wd10ezex, it vibrates so loud that it rocks my whole case. i even put in it bubble wrap and on the 2 cords of front panel jumpers. the thing is still loud on idle. can it harm other pc parts if it vibrates the whole case?

I've been thinking about making a fileserver since a very long time. A NAS could be cool but it's quite expensive and doesn't usually reach the full gigabit brandwidth. A homemade PC does, and it could also have other server's functions.

Those Quantum 8.4 GB drives are about the loudest you could pick, and they're about 20 years old. Not a fair comparison, most harddrives are not anywhere that loud. Also the 10k and 15k harddrives aren't meant for consumer PCs, so no wonder whey were developed with something else in mind rather than noise reduction. Good modern harddrives are barely audible...even my WD Caviar Black 2 TB drive.

Thank you and bless you. That quantum sounds like a motorcycle lol. I regret buying Enermax , i have no were to place HDD in a cabinet wich is annoying ending me to put it simply down beside PSU. When i touch pc is stops the noise, but then makes noise seconds later. Next time going to get better case. Noise and warm is simply the core thing that makes pc enjoyment lower especially in gaming. Guess gotta take hdd somewhere. I hope there exist a place where you can store data without drives, that be dope.

although this is an old video,
i'd like to point out, that modern hard drives got rid of AAM, because fuck consumers.
also modern decent harddrives like let's say the 8 TB wd gold drives are enterprise drives, so sound levels are not cared about at all.
so today, u don't get a tiny piece of software (AAM) to silence your drive or even get a decent silent drive, great world we're living in....
u gotta find old unicorns like the hgst megascale cold storage enterprise drives, that are dead silent 4 TB drives, but they are out of production for a while.
the tech world really sucks and ssds still cost an arm and a leg.
and of course i'm already using ssds for my games and operating systems, but my media can not fit on ssds....
