Me playing 100 impressively programmed C64 games.
I was one of the UK brats who picked up the C64 during it's 2nd wind of popularity (Which happened in the UK after it became a budget machine around 89') so these are the types of games i'll always associate with the first games machine I owned.
There's already a very nice 100 C64 games in 10 minutes video made by Laffer which includes all the older classics so I thought for my video I would completely focus on only the best looking and most impressively programed C64 classics.
All the games featured were released in one form or another however a handful never left Germany and some were only released as cover games free with German magazines which managed to survive well into the 90s.

Wow, every humble pixel & bits of the C64 rock balls! Awesome games!!! 👍
Gutted I missed some of these gems!
Some fine looking games there! The C64 truly was a powerful machine. My jaw hit the floor with some of the clips, (the creatures boss for example)
Nice choice of Papa new guinae too.
Great selection of games. Wish I had one of these back in the day - certainly put my old Dragon 32 to shame.
Wish these vids were tagged ffs, im trying to find games i used to play as a kid and when i recognise them i still have no clue what to search fo...
Very nice! Thank You. I still use the c64, thank you!
I can't believe all these games had exactly the same soundtrack! Should have noticed that before!
Did you guys see how Stormlord simply POPS THE FRIG OUT in this reel? It is truly a masterpiece.
This is one of the better "100 ___ Games" videos I've seen, and I've seen a lot. Wall to wall fun!
Great Selection!!, simply the best recopilation I've seen. Thanks for the job.
¡¡Excelente selección!!, la mejor recopilación de juegos de C64 que encontré hasta ahora. la meyoría de los mejores están acá. Gracias por el trabajo.
my first computer ..good memories
Nice to take a look into the world of the C64, which I have little to none experience with
Really impressive stuff!
thx man awesonme video this is
Flimbo's Quest - one of my favorite!
Thanks, you've no idea how long (probably years) I've been trying to remember what the name of the game at 4:36 was (Hawkeye).
Didn't realise it was published by Thalamus ... I thought I knew all their games (thanks to Apex and the Rowlands brothers).
@ slkforever
Don't be misled by the low framerate of YT vids. The vast majority of c64 games run at 50fps for PAL, 60fps for NTSC, same as NES and SMS.
The NES does have several advantages, such as its hardware-based sprite multiplexer, yet it isstill limited to a max of 8 sprites per horizontal line, while its sprites are only one third the width of c64 ones.
This is the main reason for sprite flicker in NES games and why big bosses are often built out of background tiles on a black screen.
Thanks for the kind words. The game at 4:05 is Anarchy. Also :) I'm going to revise your statement to "where else could you find such innovative titles with pretty good graphics" as you could find loads of innovative and original games on the Spectrum, many of which were exclusive (as were many greats for the C64), you did however have to put up with colour clash or monochrome graphics with the Speccy.
thanx.. cool vid!
I almost cried.
Thanks my man. I just tried this on ccs64 and theres no doubt about it - Manfred Trenze is the man. If i had this game in my 64 years i think i would have vum in my pants. Enforcer is now my fave spaceship shooter of all time.
wonderboy, nemesis, r-type, rollign thunder, commando....2 much great memories. I also loved rags too riches.
Hello!
Incredible graphics, with upto parallax and multilayers, giant end boss sprites and of course the very good synth chip SID musics.
Greetings,
TheBITSClub
thanks !!
It's cool that you included St. Dragon:) What's the game at 03:11 - I'd love to play it again but forgot the title (it was about this ninja wit the chain-hook-bionic commando-like thing, right?)
The side shooter was 'armalyte' arguably one of the c64's best. I dunno bout the others though
First game is one of my all time faves, creatures! Doesnt seem to be that well known but for me was one of the best.
Nice vid. My only problem is that i feel the audio for the second half doesnt really fit (thats just my opinion). I like the music for the first half though.
name of the game is "Creatures". I recommend it!
Hi Laoch. The platformer is Rolling Ronny.
Wish I could remember the name of that tank game. It looks strangely familiar.
I still have my c64 and the majority of the games shown here. For me Rick dangerous, wonderboy, midnight resistance, bionic commando and the last ninja, stand out. Man I wish I was 10 again, lol
5:20 brings back memories
C64, Impressive. Most impressive.
I think the 2nd song takes a while to get going, but the main problem was that I needed a song that was 6 minutes odd long to fit the video, I think it does a good job personally, maybe not perfect but still good, for me the first song gives a lot of energy to the vid but the 2nd is more nostalgic.
3.18 gaini sisters FTW ! ! ! puts mario to shame lol
7.50 is that game shell shock?
What's the title at 6:58?
What is second song at 4:00 ?
Micheal Zanaglio, you're talking about Project Firestart

1:33 What is a game?
Woops! I actually made a list of games used in this vid ages ago but I forgot to link to it in the info box :S
Looking for a Commodore 64 game where you fly around on a vacuum cleaner? Any clues?
Could be Terramex, if not I'm all out of ideas
@@RetroSanctuary That's gotta be it. I've been wondering what that game was for almost 40 years. Thanks!
what's the game at 6:00?
Could you tell me the names of the games at:
0:27
2:30 (the samurai one)
5:05
6:55
Please & thanks!
P.S.- sorry I'm asking for so many, I'm buying a c64 and am looking at games I'll possibly buy.
The C64 game library of over 4000 titles completely dwarfs the NES game library of around 1000 (Japan only, it was more like 600 in the US and substantially fewer in Europe)
The NES library only really wins out specifically in the number and quality of it's platform games and jrpg's (a genre the C64 was very lacking in)
Also the NES is not all-around superior technically either, whilst beating out the C64 in many areas, the C64 still had a superior sound chip, and from what i've heard sprite capabilities, compare the whale from Rodland (00:22) or the giant flying boss from Creatures 2 (02:53) to the Dragon towards the end of Mega Man 2 which causes the NES to slow down and flicker on a massive scale even with nothing but a black background (that boss fight still manages to rock hard though)
I NEED NAME OF THE GAME AT 6:00
Enforcer: Fullmetal Megablaster
I think ...

Wow, you've really shown a great parade with the best of the best, you just missed Henry's House, Parker Bro's Popeye, Aztec Challenge, Bomb Jack, Yie Are Kung Fu, Mikie, International Karate, Rambo : The First Blood and Mega Apocalypse (and included Wonder Boy twice).
I'd like to have all those games that are in your video, but I just managed to collect some(about 40% of them).
No, I don't forget Nintendo's illegal business practices and "Seal of Quality" which was pretty much the reason why 70% of it's games library was platform games, if you limit the number of games a company can release every year you're basically forcing it to put all it's eggs in one basket, the most popular game genre for the time was platformer, so that was also the least risky business proposition, also I might add it didn't seem to stop terrible games from appearing on the console anyway.
rick dangerous
It's papia New Guinea
Turrican ist the best
Games are to short and isn't games sounds.
Great vid.. but the "music" made puke! :D
You say "the rest not" in too much of a broard way, what has the speed of a consoles games got to do with it's sprite capabilities? in my experience anything on NES with loads of sprites onscreen has masses of flicker to the extent not commonly seen on the C64. The C64 was originally designed to be a games machine but was later changed to be a home computer so it was not adapted to play arcade style games at all it was designed with them in mind from the beginning.
