Connected to 3 different WiFi networks. First 8 times failed. Disconnecting my battery and doing a master reset got the update to start again. It failed three more times and then worked after 5 hours. Couldn’t be easier. Thanks for the tips!
I’m glad it eventually worked lol. That’s why usb method tends to be more reliable but WiFi is more convenient
WiFi update doesn't seem to work for a lot of people including me. It just says scan was incomplete. Most people just end up doing it with USB.
Usb is the definitely the tried and true method. Wifi is good for convenience but has a lot of external factors that can impact your install
Been trying to update from sync 3.3 to sync 3.4 for probably a year. Hopefully I’d finally be able to sort it out.
There is a new update build 22200, so when I did the update you can start it and turn off the car and go inside however I would suggest not to move the car for like an hour and a half. If the Bluetooth gets stuck and won't connect to your phone or any phone there is a 10 amp fuse next to box 32 whichis written upside down , in the passenger side on the right side pull out then up to open fuse box pull fuse while radio is on and wait for radio to turn off then put the fuse back in and this is more than the Master reset could do for Bluetooth problems
Interesting did not know about the fuse! Thanks for sharing such valuable information. Hopefully your update went smoothly.
Elliot in the Morning!
@@Red5oh Southern Md. btw thanks for the video it has helped me out updating myF150 Sync3.3
Hi, Can I update my Mustang 2016 to the 3.4 version, I won’t give me the option and I’m connected to wifi. Also carplay does not work with the USB. It keeps saying “No media is available on the selected device”
Unfortunately only 2018+ mustangs are eligible for 3.4 system. However you can do it through Cyanlabs which uses the official update too. Check out my video on Cyanlabs
Hello...the download to my USB was successful but when I insert my USB into my truck I see a message at the top of screen saying CYANLABS recognized but doesn't show it downloading. What do I need to do?
Are you using a properly formatted usb? Usually if it detects it would start downloading. Id suggest trying a different usb drive if you have it and format it properly
Is this the same as the software updates that the Ford tech does? Can u update the Mustang's internal software by yourself over Wifi - in order to have the latest security/transmission/etc. updates?
Great video, please can you advise if the sync software update includes the map update too.
hi, how you doing? i bought a 2019 ford ranger sync 3 system from a local wreckers shop. have installed it in my 2016 xls ford ranger. the sync 3 system still has the vin no of the 2019 ranger. will it pick up my 2016 ranger vin no if i do a master reset. i am to afraid to do master reset incase something goes wrong.
You would need a for scan tool to configure the unit with your car from my understanding
Thanks for the vid! I have sync 3.0 I connect to WiFi and scan for updates… it just says the last time it was scanned but doesn’t say there’s actually an update.. any ideas?
I've seen no information regarding licensing or payment method used for WiFi updates for maps, etc., that Ford asks for when downloading the same set of files on your computer suited for a USB install. Please comment on that part of the equation.
The price really is for Ford sending the USB itself. I have updated mine with USB and it gave me the option to either purchase a usb with files already downloaded on it or I can just download the files and use my own USB, which is what I did. If you do your own USB or Wifi there is no payment required as the updates are free. Ford just charges you for sending you a USB drive.
@Red5oh Yes. There is. Ford charged me $109.00 for the download, as opposed to $149.00 to have them send a preloaded USB, which is why I suggested comment on that when utilizing Wi-Fi.
@@Timba1960 they must’ve changed it but that sounds like a rip off! I remember preloaded usb being $40 and free to download on your usb. I also first did it 2 years ago
my ford connect is just searching for updates ive been waiting 30 mins and still nothing ver 3.3 atm
Can you turn off ignition and have it scan while car is totally turned off? My keeps scanning and I’ve sit with engine running half an hour. I have a strong WiFi signal.
The software upgrade will stop if you turn off the car but it tends to pick up where it left off so it can be done over course of days if needed to be lol
I won't have the "scan for updates now" option. Any ideas? Thank you!
How long did it take during the searching process?
Depends on the wifi connection. Mine took about 5 mins or so but my wifi signal was pretty strong. The downloading itself took a bit of time
I’ve been sitting here trying to update over WiFi for almost 30 mins now. The “scanning for updates” icon is still going. I made sure it’s connected to WiFi & have strong signal (it says excellent for strength.
I have a Ford Explorer 2019 and am stuck on SYNC 3.0. Navigation is pretty outdated, speed limits are for sure outdated, local businesses are way outdated, etc etc etc… I’m not going to sit here any longer. I’m going to have to either go to the dealership or try to do it via thumb drive.
I assume you asked that question because you were on the scanning for updates thing for a while too?
i tried to update to sync 3.4 via usb but after 55/60 minutes still nothing.. is it possible i use so much?
Updates can take a while. Mine took almost couple hours with USB first time I did it. Did your update ever finish?
how long does it take for it to download the update(s) can you use your phones hotspot.
It honestly depends on your wifi strength and speed. On average it should be around 1 hr
Does it have to be a home wifi or can it be a hotspot from my phone as its refusing to connect to it
How long did each step take? Update search, download, in install?
My 2018 ford Taurus SEL in Canada doesnt seem to have any updates available, its weird
Check out my cyanlab video that allows you to update even if no official update from Ford.
@@Red5oh ok great , the option to take if there isn't 1 on the Ford website?
@@sirkevin1994 yes that’s what I’d do if you want to update to latest softeare
I have an issue with my sync 3.
I've tried to update to newer version and and it was more than 3 hours updating ..i had to go ,because it was more time than expected and i unplug the USB before finishing. On the next day the screen was okay.. showing that Update Successefully installed ,then turned off and never turned on...The USB is not working anymore..i tried to remove the fuse 67 ,,power button with >>,the + from the battery, nothing works...The radio works,,i just cannot change the stations,Wi-FI works as well, during the night the screen is not completle black there is a light behind...
Obviously there was an issue installing properly..my question is it possible to update from computer somehow ,if USB is not working.... or what how to solve this issue?
I don't believe you can upgrade from the PC directly. It's either via Usb or Wifi. If your Wifi is working I would try that. I know you mentioned you unplugged the battery but I would unplug it overnight and see if that helps.
My car doesn’t show an update. It is/was a Canadian car. Could that be the case ?
i have the 3.4 and my screen freezes and i have to keep resetting it
My 2016 5.0 says it was last checked in August of 2003…how that works…idk…lol
Yeah mine doesn’t have “automatic updates” Frustrating when you watch these videos but the steps don’t match with your sync 3 system…
You can manually download it too. Auto update is only for it to update when the car is parked with Wi-Fi access
Mine keeps saying scanning for updates. So long. I give up
It shouldn’t take long. Check your wifi strength. Better yet try the usb method I have a video on that as well
I can't get mine to update either way. This is very frustrating.
I've literally used a 20ft ethernet wire and moved my wifi into the garage.. 2 feet from my fusion. Car couldn't find wifi lol
My moms car is on Sync 3.0. Does that mean it has never been updated or is it just not compatible with 3.4 due to age of vehicle? I was trying to update the maps. Update process runs over wifi but doesn’t download anything. Ford eco sport.
It could be that or just hasn’t been updated. What year is the vehicle? There’s also an official ford website that tells you what is they latest sync software your car is eligible for
I checked with Ford. They said to update with USB method. However they want to charge $109 to update the navigation maps. Kinda a rip off when i can use apple car play maps for free. I think i can update using 3rd resources for free but wasn’t sure how secure those files are. Thanks for video tutorial.

@@earnhar768 look at my cyan lab video. You can also update with usb for free I have a video on that too. I agree you shouldn’t be paying for such a basic update
do you have the engine running to download on WIFI?
You don’t have to but it’s good to do so that way you don’t run out of battery
You would think this is easy, no lol, scanned with WiFi, sync saying up to date, logged on to Ford, it says the sync needs updating.
That’s weird! Try downloading the update from ford website try my usb video to upgrade
These CZcams commercials are getting ridiculous!
2 long commercials for Ford before I got to your video. Don't understand this.@@Red5oh
A few hours is unacceptable. Dealers won’t do it. It should be OTA like most other vehicles. Ford’s WiFi is trash
Worked like a charm doing it the WiFi way. Took almost an hour.
Awesome glad the video was helpful
