- What do you do if you have the itch to play your classic NES, SNES, Super Famicom, or Genesis games but you don't have one of those systems to play on? You can go out and purchase one of each of those, but who knows if it's in good shape or even functions. For years Hyperkin has offered budget-friendly clone video game systems that allow you to play the past into the future, and we just received their latest clone console, the Retron 3 AV. Let's take a quick look at this as we prep for our full review.

Available in 2 different colors, a red and this Hyperbeach Edition baby blue, the system features 3 different cartridge slots on the top. One for the Super Nintendo (which should also work with the Super Famicom Cartridges), 1 for the Sega Genesis (again should also work with Mega Drive Games) and 1 for NES Cartridges. The system includes 2 controllers, their Scout SNES-style controller and the GN6 Genesis controller. Having used these in the past with other systems I find these to be very capable controllers and nice additions. I would have liked to also have a Cadet controller included for NES games, but I also know that would have increased the pricing.

You'll be the first person that I know of to review the Retron3 AV. I'd like to see how it handles games like Castlevania III on the NES & Virtua Racing on the Genesis, as well as Homebrew/Repros. Finally, how it works with Wireless Controllers. I look forward to watching the review. 👍👍

Then I use an emulator with over 1000 games downloaded for the NES, SNES and Genesis combined. If I get bored of them, I have over 30 other emulators to choose from awith about 20,000 games and apps between them too!
But I wonder, have they improved compatibility?

Hyperkin has burned me before, I would not be interested in their products anymore. I also lost interest in software driven emulation.
I have been quite fond of the FPGA consoles such as Analogue and RetroUSB units.
If you know what FPGA is this isn't the system for you in the first place. This is geared for the entry level and right now, at $45 on Amazon, man...
@@RoXolid I understand that, but after the Retron5, their Official Xbox Panorama adapter, among others products, their quality was lacking even for budget level.
