The heat management of the 3 and Y would be interesting in comparison
Xp Reflex what makes you say the y is number 1?
@@johnnycox7370 model y is the only one with heat pump
@@foudremy1514 The heat pump does not help in hot climates. It helps in cold climates to heat more efficient. With all components wanting cooling, there is no advantage in a heat pump.
@@foudremy1514 Model 3 2021 also has heat pump as standard.
@@danielrose1392 It has heat scavenging, so it could help if you heat up the cabin. Just like it would help when you heat up the cabin in a fossil car.

One other option - drive at night when in Death Valley
Or you could get a gasoline vehicle.
@@JensSchraeder But then he'd be paying wildly inconsistent prices. Might be $2.50 one week..... and $4.75 the next. No thanks
This is standard Dubai weather 😆
You are a brave man....question, what kind of effect did the extreme temps have on the tires??
have cooling coils surround the batteries to extend battery life in hot or cold temperatures? i'd waited until dark and left when it was cooler on a fully charged battery.
Tesla batts are liquid cooled using a heat pump but everything has limits and he obviously reached it in Death Valley. The same Heat Pump cools the battery, motors, inverter and the cabin.
I used to watch all of these vlogs in school! Glad to be back!
that should also be what the tesla warning gives you on the dash--"we hot"
Drove to Furnace Creek/Bad Water in 2019 in a rental Dodge mini-van. Temperatures hit 122F. The rental was almost overheating on the drive out so we had drive around 40mph AC off windows down. On the down hill the brakes caused a wicked vibration that went away after temperatures drop back below 110F. Had the same reaction you did when we got to the first gas station outside of Death Valley.
No car, ICE or EV, does well in Death Valley.
I've driven my EV several times in high heat, only issue i've noticed is that the Tritium units from ChargePoint can get kinda wonky. No issues with ABB. Glad to see that the Superchargers still work! Prolly wouldn't have had a power limit if you hadn't launched it lol

Awesome video :) I think I would feel more confident on that trip in a VW TDI lol
I think the heating problems were more to due with your Model X being a pre-raven version. The raven Model X made significant imporvements in thermal and cooling solution! also Model 3/Y handle extreme weather much better too due to them having more range 310+ and better cooling/ heating systems.
Good video Dan! This is proof that I'll want to have another vehicle other than a Tesla if I do a road trip in any extreme weather or temperatures. Maybe that Mercedes car you drove at one point might handle better or the badger by Nikola Motors. Thanks for making this video Dan and Hunter.
Dan continue to do the crazy/dumb stuff.
Tesla’s horrible in the heat! Overtime the tend to lose range
Actually pretty informative. I can't image what death Valley would do to a Nissan Leaf especially since they use a liquid cooled battery...
Afaik every electric car uses Water Cooled batteries and Motors
when he used the second drone to try to free the first drone. That right there is double or nothing in action
@8:15 you did find the best Pizza joint on Fremont. Well done.
pretty sure plenty of gas cars have issues in death valley.. 125F is a seriously dangerous level of heat. The fact that the car made it through is awesome.
Most car manufacturers actually test cars in DV, Phoenix area, or Middle East in the Summer to test cooling system, and A/C performance. Newer, and well maintained cars have no issues there even when it's 125 or warmer. Needles, California and Bullhead City, AZ are very close to DV temps in Summer, and people live there with no problem
Nope the cars run at a water cooled 225°f - 260°f. Thats what the radiator cap is for. Raise boiling point beacuse of 15lbs of pressure.
Worlds highest temperature

Shout out the that pannist with the Trinidad and Tobago sticker on his steel pan ♥️ in vegas

Ahhh Fremont Street, I went there back in 2016 on my USA trip, I miss it
What city is that?
You won't miss it now. Vagrants and homeless took over, just like every other Democrat run city
I wanna see you guys now ride a motorcycle... I'd definitely watch that video!
"I'm fully stepping on the gas right now" lol
Last time I was in Beaty the donky wasn't out. Nice town though.
i love your videos I've watched them all
When I went to Las Vegas a couple years ago i saw a ton of drunk people and some old man was with his wife and told us to move away from her. It was like a faucet it never stopped, and that was in broad daylight while I was watching a magic trick
You can say that your side trip was re-DONKEY-ulous! LOL Glad you're safe Dan.
128 Deg. is not excessive here. In summer it is commonly 115 - 118 in the shade daily with nights in the 95 degree range. My biggest question is how a Tesla would work in my area - I really want one but fear the battery will both have daily temperature issues and the life of the battery will be very negatively effected. A/C is essential both summer and often in the winter also. I have seen some Teslas, but not many.
Im very curious if you did that exact trip with a new 2020 model how much better it would fare
It will be interesting to see how the new Octovalve and Compressor combo handles heat like this.
The Rivian R1T did exceptionally well towing that 30ft 11,000 pound trailer on the Davis Dam test during 118f temperatures over 11.4 miles and 2,950 ft elevation rise.
Though there is more info to be released like range reduction details, the bar has been set for the Cybertruck to match now :)
Hopefully tomorrow on Battery Day we will get some treats of informations provided to us all
Not really that impressive when compared to a diesel truck.
@@stevenwatson3496 Yup, diesel is the way to go for now if you need longer range or charging times are an issue.
Battery energy density is ramping up fast and next years batteries will be able to charge to 80% in 5mins. Cheaper tech than most of today's too.
Towing eats about 50% range, an aero trailer is key for electric and overall towing efficiency, but once range is 700 to 1000km electric will be the way to go.
Cars already have that range today. Trucks next year+
@@OniMetsuki not sure I would say they are going to be better that soon. Here in texas EV’s are not taking the heat well and most of the state has been advised not to charge between 3pm-8pm due to stress on the grid. These are fairly new. Many more problems will surface I’m sure.
Beatty looks like so much fun honestly :O
What should I get the tesla model 3 or model y or cybertruck I cant pick pls tell me

LOL... Just commented on your newest video about extreme heat in a Tesla.... Go ahead and scratch that question LMAO
Dan you should make some reuseable face coverings with the whats inside logo on the cheek part on the mask!!
0:58 right here is a gas station obviously if you have a gas car you can just “CHARGE” lol 😂
"how did you drive that?"
I'm thinking he had no choice, looks like someone's never been in that position lmao
what doesa lmao mean
Definitely need a What's Inside area 51!
Though you should keep in mind that petrol cars are (also) susceptible to overheating in the same extreme temperatures and that using the air con consumes fuel when traveling at highway speeds.
Thank you!! I live in Phoenix, sick of cold weather reviews (like all of them) - thanks for answering the questions sun belt customers have that go unanswered
When you are at Area 51 when they saw you what if they ask you “would you like a 1000% Tesla? 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for posting! What a pain in the a** a Tesla is for road trips. lol
Hi love your videos what's inside
Should drive in the middle of the night during this time of the year thru that area
Pizza Rock is much better. It’s on actual Fremont Street not the Experience
Fremont is a good time. Lol
I know the titles have to be made this way to "get" the algorithm working but nothing here shouted deal breaker when this was planned. Almost any car will have challenges in DV so it's cool to see that the Tesla made it through! Long term damage though is hard to tell until analysis later on. Happy you got to see the 131 F in the other video and got back safely!
10:18 mower impour-tuntly
Fremont St is absolutely where you go if you’re a tourist trying to buy drugs in Vegas 😂
I’m south Florida it’s hot and humid all the time. Gas mileage in cars and EVs lose their range too. It sucks. The heat is a killer!
Would totally have made it to vegas directly... Just drive a little slower and direct the vent to you.
You made it sound so bad... It feels like u work for big oil :o
we love space x. We traveled to Boca Chica to see the starship get built. & we got the S dual motor fsd last Christmas 🎄 😎 still have the cybertruck tri motor or 4 motor fsd on order, i got lots of solar & backup battery system to charge them both.

My internet: nop not this year, maybe next year
Lucky for you dan, the entire globe is getting hotter.
Me just laughing at all the "dumb" stuff. Lmao
Did you have recirculate on? This makes a huge difference when the AC is on.
Can i ask you....
Do you realize he keeps saying my battery is draining in this heat.
Then finally he says I lost 20 miles just sitting parked in this heat........ with the AC on.
Kind of making things sound a bit worse than they are.
Great salesman though. Thumbs up
The Model Y has a heat pump designed for this kind of stuff I would be interested to see how much of a difference it makes.
Doesn't make difference in hot weather. AC works on heat exchange principal as well.
5:07 Hey that my the same Toyota Camry 1998 in Cambodia 🇰🇭 that my dad drive everyday it still works
"What's inside the air-conditioning for the model 3" like how does it deflect the air?? Please do this!
Shoulda got a Nikola Badger 😂
So many gas engines overheat every year in the area. We have come a long way!
That very much seems like a manufacturing issue. The car's electronics should be made to withstand those temperatures. 150 isn't a great on electronics but it shouldn't course failure. My guess is something is getting very hot underneath, that the desert heat is adding to and coursing premature failure, or it's failing due to insufficient materials. The battery could definitely be suffering too if it lacks in cooling capacity as Lithium is sensitive to temperature.
Love your videos
Oh hey, I noticed you were listening to Kelsea Ballerini, I like her too!
Hey I’ve been at the Area 51 place you saw. Nice! I was with my dad and we stayed overnight pretty cool
Here in alaska there are no super chargers and less than ten Tesla’s total
What lens does he use for the zoom out shots
I live in Vegas, I knew it was gonna be Vegas before I even clicked on it
It's a matter of basic physics, increased energy increases entropy, not only does the increased temperature decrease range but it will shorten the lifespan of the battery.
I was watching a kenblock video on a world rally cross electric car and it was water cooled for the batteries I feel like you would need some kind of water cooling system like you would for a PC for a Tesla in that kind of heat to keep the Tesla running efficient in hot temperatures
I've never been this early.
“I’ll never drive my Tesla in Extreme temperatures again” because I can’t drive 80 in a 45 going up hill and launch the car with out running out of battery…my model 3 has gone through Death Valley before no problems. Also there are J1772 in the National park. It’s slow but you do have options. This is just a misleading video all the way around.
He's definitely a drama queen.
Guys remember that portobol battery that can charger the tesla. he gets some things but does not use them.
Temperature rises
Dan: Let's make some videos
Makes 4 videos
Dan, do you dare to drive your Roadster to there tho? o_O
damn that dolly zoom at 3:24 bravo
In my home town I live close to a place where it has that too. 4:29
So, how long does it take to fully charge this vehicle?
Wait, so your almost out of charge, and you decide to floor it and waste more energy that you coulda used to get to the charger.. if you ended up stranded you’d have no one to blame but yourself
He did it as a joke my guy
He just need to drive 29 miles with 100+ miles of range
