    Drove to Furnace Creek/Bad Water in 2019 in a rental Dodge mini-van. Temperatures hit 122F. The rental was almost overheating on the drive out so we had drive around 40mph AC off windows down. On the down hill the brakes caused a wicked vibration that went away after temperatures drop back below 110F. Had the same reaction you did when we got to the first gas station outside of Death Valley.

    128 Deg. is not excessive here. In summer it is commonly 115 - 118 in the shade daily with nights in the 95 degree range. My biggest question is how a Tesla would work in my area - I really want one but fear the battery will both have daily temperature issues and the life of the battery will be very negatively effected. A/C is essential both summer and often in the winter also. I have seen some Teslas, but not many.

    • @OniMetsuki
      @OniMetsuki Před 2 lety

      @@stevenwatson3496 Yup, diesel is the way to go for now if you need longer range or charging times are an issue.
      Battery energy density is ramping up fast and next years batteries will be able to charge to 80% in 5mins. Cheaper tech than most of today's too.
      Towing eats about 50% range, an aero trailer is key for electric and overall towing efficiency, but once range is 700 to 1000km electric will be the way to go.
      Cars already have that range today. Trucks next year+

    That very much seems like a manufacturing issue. The car's electronics should be made to withstand those temperatures. 150 isn't a great on electronics but it shouldn't course failure. My guess is something is getting very hot underneath, that the desert heat is adding to and coursing premature failure, or it's failing due to insufficient materials. The battery could definitely be suffering too if it lacks in cooling capacity as Lithium is sensitive to temperature.

    It's a matter of basic physics, increased energy increases entropy, not only does the increased temperature decrease range but it will shorten the lifespan of the battery.

    I was watching a kenblock video on a world rally cross electric car and it was water cooled for the batteries I feel like you would need some kind of water cooling system like you would for a PC for a Tesla in that kind of heat to keep the Tesla running efficient in hot temperatures

    “I’ll never drive my Tesla in Extreme temperatures again” because I can’t drive 80 in a 45 going up hill and launch the car with out running out of battery…my model 3 has gone through Death Valley before no problems. Also there are J1772 in the National park. It’s slow but you do have options. This is just a misleading video all the way around.

    Wait, so your almost out of charge, and you decide to floor it and waste more energy that you coulda used to get to the charger.. if you ended up stranded you’d have no one to blame but yourself
