One thing I have learned in my 70ish years of living is that you will never satisfy or please everyone, so don't even try, it is an exercise in futility. Do what works for you and leave it at that.
Tractors sounding pretty good, looks like they handle those plows plenty good. Y'all have a good day now.

I too love to watch your plowing videos. I started plowing at the age of 10 on dad's WD Allis pulling a John Deere trip plow, 2-14s. It was an adventure plus a learning experience. He struck all the lands and finished the dead furrows. Fall plowing worked up so well in Spring; almost like our garden. Go for it, Alan!

We’ve pulled a 5x16 with an 886 turned up to about 100hp for the whole life of the tractor and the plow as they were bought brand new together back in 1977. Hay ground about 5.5 miles and hr, corn ground about 6.5 mph. I couldn’t care less what others say, it’s been doing it for 47 years and we’re in the middle of plowing this year just like always.

Yes, there is something therapeutic about plowing. We did many years of plowing with a JD 630 and a three-bottom plow. Turn on the lights and hear that 630 work into the dark hours. Those 1256 and 1066's were/are very good tractors.

My brother in law pulled a 5 bottom ( 20 inch bottoms ) so be pretty much identical to his 6 bottom 16 inch ( the 5 bottom would be 4 inches wider actually) he pulled that with a 986 or his 4240 Deere on hills and did it for years lol thenwe

Hi Alan great video you do not need expensive shiny machinery full of unreliable Hi Tec gizmos you do a great with what you have .
I farmed for over60 years till i retired 6 year ago on some of the heaviest wettest clay soils you could find here in England which was all drained and needed subsoiling most years weather permitting .
I used both plough and min till and they both worked well no 2 years are alike and used mostly second hand tractors and machinery which i used to adapt to do a better job .
I think there are 3 key things in farming know your land no 1. maintenance no2 . and get stuck in when the weather is right'
We have had one of the wettest 12 months in living memory in England and the one thing i have noticed where crops have been put in with the plough and early they have faired a lot better than the fancy No Till Drilled fields there is need for all
methods not just one .Keep doing what you know best .

‘No till mafia’ 😅. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that. I get lots of free advice on my channel too. Seems like plowing gets lots of comments for us too. Rock picking gets attention too. I enjoy your creativity in solving farm problems.

I have an 856 Wheatland that I pull 5x16’s on land with. Has no issues in my clay and hills. I don’t set any speed records, but you don’t wanna go too fast anyway when moldboard plowing. Most people don’t understand the lugging power of the Old Iron tractors from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. IH had some amazing pulling power! Just keep using your equipment the way you know best and don’t worry about the negative comments. I’m one of those subscribers that would gladly watch a 2 hour plowing video. Keep em coming! Great video too. God Bless

As a teen on P.E.I. Canada I used to plow with an 8N Ford tractor and a two sod plow. That was in the late 1950ies and early 1960ies.
    Thanks for the great video!

Hey neighbor I'm in Nova Scotia. The potato farms in PEI still moldboard plow everything. And they're getting as high 33,000 lbs of potato to the acre when a few of them stopped plowing and just did discing last year's potato fields potato yields dropped to 27,000 pounds an acre.
