    Sorry, but I'm Dave. Born 1960 indiana. Kansas instantly had a connection to my core, Steve in particular. I hope you explore all of their endeavors. Music here is much more than just "Music Here".
    Some of my favorites are; Down the road, 2 cents worth, Magnum Opis, And Song for America. Miss Robbie, and Steve! Love KANSAS!!!!

    Two for the Show.....recorded live concert footage is a great sampling of Kansas material (2 album set) The energy hits in you in such a magnificent way! Having seen them twice ( once at the Palladium in NYC) in the 70's I can vouch for that. This band sold out venues like Madison Square Garden, NYC; Nassau Colesium, NY and so on.....

    Hey John, my name is Karl, im 58, from Albuquerque and since I started to appreciate music in 1976, i was 11, Kansas was and still are my favorite band! Im glad youre living and loving this journey known as Kansas! Im going to listent the songs youve reacted to and recommend more because they have a lot of great music to explore! I also love that you love Rush! Progressive rock is my favorite genre and im excited to check out your channel and see what we have in common and possibly introduce you to other bands! Looking forward to this musical journey; even though I'm not a musician and cant carry a tune I still love experiencing music and the musicians that create; some are geniuses some aren't. Kansas is still touring only with 2 original members: Phil Ehart on drums and Rich Williams on rhythm guitar. The original members, the ones youre hearing here, are: Steve Walsh on lead vocals on most songs, keyboards, Kerry Livgren who is the main songwriter, guitars, and Keyboards, Robbie Steinhardt on violin and some lead vocals, Phil Ehart on drums, Rich Williams on rhythm guitars, and Dave Hope on bass. The original members were together from their first self-titled album Kansas to Audio Visions when Steve Walsh left and John Elefante came in and took over lead vocals on Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures. After Drastic Measures Kerry Livgren, Dave Hope, and John Elefante left. Power was the album where Billy Greer took over on bass(still there today), Steve Walsh came back, Steve Vai on guitars and David Ragsdale on violin. Multiple changes after that with a few new albums. The newer albums Prelude Implicit and Absence Of Presence are stellar albums and feature their current lead vocalist Ronnie Platt! A little history for you. Im going to check more of your Kansas and Rush reactions to what you've reacted to and songs I can recommend!

    Little detail. The first seven Kansas albums were recorded live in the studio with few overdubs. What you hear on the record is what you hear on stage.

    KANSAS - " Incomudro Hymn To The Atman " the SYNTHESIZERS intro in this song plus the Bass & Drums at the start of this song is EPIC!!! I just don't get why this song gets overlooked so much, because in my opinion this is the predesrsor to the magnum opus , it is insanely super creative top tier music and talk about the Drums solo and Synth work is absolutely amazing. Don't let the title name detour you from checking it out , I believe this song was a big influence on their next Epic song which would be Magnum Opus. Incomudro Hymn To The Atman is from 1975 and I do believe it's a Magnum Opus all on its own. There's so many groovy transitions in this song that you're gonna enjoy it 💯 🎸🎹🥁🎻

    I saw Kansas live 8 times between 1974 and 1980 or so. My absolute favorite band - so tight. But after Leftoverture was released in 1976, Magnum Opus became the usual way the group ended their concerts. In fact, on one tour, they had a roadie dress up in a nun’s habit & come out of the audience onto the stage, trying to go after the band members. Then they sent another roadie out to try to “stop” the nun & ripped all “her” clothes off. Then they used a strobe so as not to reveal the total nudity. What a crack up! LOVE LOVE LOVE Kansas!!!!

    I have had the extreme good fortune to have seen KANSAS Live 4 times. Phil Ehart is my Favorite Drummer. He plays melodies not just rhythm patterns. Every member is a musical GENIUS. This song is usually extra long and a crowd favorite to close their shows. Steve Walsh is Keyboards and a great vocalist. Robby plays Violin like NOBODY else. Kerry on Guitar is phenomenal along with Rich and Dave….AWESOME performance every time.

    I'm waiting for the day one of these reaction video folk goes on a deeper dive with this sort of thing. If you really love this old Kansas this much, try diving into later stuff Livgren or Walsh did, like Walsh's Smackin' The Clowns from Glossolalia, or When The Rains Come by Livgren. Myriad from Kansas Somewhere To Elsewhere is about as wild and weird as anything they ever did too.

    LOL I KNEW you'd flip over this one,John--what a trip! And..judging by this reaction...you simply MUST try some material by Neal Morse! His writing combines Kansas,Rush,Yes, Dregs,,Dream Theater, Gentle Giant,ELP later Beatles and other prog greats of the 70's. Anything from Spock's Beard (first 6 albums),Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band, Flying Colors or his solo stuff! And...all his longer tracks are insanely GREAT just like this Kansas track is! You'll be floored,bro--trust me! Dive in..T PS: Don't miss Kansas when they come around. They are incredible live! :-)

    John, just discovered your channel. First saw your reaction to Machine Messiah. It was much like mine in 1982 I believe. It takes you on such a journey of musical mastery and imagination! 0:04 0:04 I've seen other reactions to it but you seem to understand better than most what actually makes these songs fantastic, which is quite remarkable considering your age. The whole Drama album is one of my favorites. If you haven't tracked through it I highly recommend it. Looks like you're a bass player, so definitely check out Tempus Fugit. Yes and Kansas are head and shoulders above 95% of percent of bands in the history of Rock in my opinion. And Kansas is HIGHLY underrated! Their brilliance goes Far beyond the songs they are known for. You were speculating about what their influences might be. Listen to Tarkus by Emerson Lake and Palmer! That should be enlightening. Also I hear a fair amount of Genesis in their keyboard textures and chord progressions. Actually I'd love to get your reaction to Tempus Fugit and Tarkus. Keep up the good work!

    Originally, this song was named " Leftoverture ", because the song is made up of little bits of music that each band member contributed...it was decided to make Leftoverture the name of the album instead.
    Live versions are even better, the violin is more dominant(as is always the case with Kansas), especially the version from " Two For The Show " Steve Walsh sings here
    RIP Robby Steinhardt, violinist extrordinaire 🎻

    I believe this is the only song in all their albums where all the members have a writing credit. A true masterpiece. This song was originally named Leftoverture since its made up of leftover parts they had laying around, but the record company liked that name too much and wanted the album to be called Leftoverture. Pretty sure their manager came up with Magnum Opus, which means greatest work in Latin.

    Most of the Leftoverture album (over 5 Million albums sold) was written by Kerry Livgren in one night. They started in 1973.

    • @katesjanice
      @katesjanice Před 6 měsíci

      They didn’t even release their first album “Kansas” until 1974 and Leftoverture was their 4th album. It’s true that Steve Walsh had dried up as a songwriter, which left the brilliant Kerry Livgren (the Maestro) to do all the writing.
      But the only song that was written in one night was Carry on Wayward Son, which Kerry wrote the night before they headed to the studio to record the album.

  • @timelkins3537
    @timelkins3537 Před 3 měsíci

    Interesting fact: The album was originally going to be called “Magnum Opus” and this track was originally titled “Leftoverture” because it was made up of separate pieces of “leftover music” that they had written together as well as separately. Then they just pieced them together to make this wild track. Then the record label thought “Leftoverture” was a better album title and the rest is history. 😉

I was not deceived and am glad that I have their early catalogue. Their best songs are indubitably works of art.
