I was genuinely terrified of the idea of you going to get a schoolbag with the second golden death cert in order to just be able to grab 2 items at once for the rest of the run

Serpent's Kiss was nerfed because it spawned black hearts everytime it killed an enemy with poison and back in the day was (i believe) an 100% chance.
It was a way to generate almost infinite hearts.

like maw of the void, athame, serpent's kiss, etc.
Yeah, and because of that, it used to have a strategy called "black heart bombing"
Which is just facepalming every enemy in your sight and let the poison of Serpent's Kiss and black heart damage kill everything
Then get the dropped black heart from poisoned enemy by Serpent's Kiss
Can not be used anymore now, but still a good way to try farm black heart from enemy if you have some kind of invincibility (contact with enemy while invincible still apply poison of Serpent's Kiss)
@@multilk6399Serpent's Kiss can still drop black hearts if poison is applied via touch, but they nerfed the probability so much I have basically only seen it happen once since Repentance.
@@HunterTracksThat and it ONLY works on contact poison. Serpent’s Kiss applies a poison effect to your tears, but those can’t give black hearts.
You can farm infinite items with Gold Death Cert + 4.5 Volt + Jumper cables. Go to the Mega Satan fight and charge your gold DC. When you use it you get teleported out of the fight so it will reset the room and you can do that infinitely

Reusable death cert balancing: needs 5 charges, charges are only acquired by skipping item rooms.

For DC you could have it so when you take an item all items in that room disappear from the DC floor. Limits how many times it can be used and makes you have to think out what you want. That or have death chase you through the floors after you use it more than once. Death could steal an extra life if available the second time you use DC and start chasing you after that as you have cheated it too many times.

Serpent's kiss is OP. You need to come into contact with enemies and they'll have a good chance of dropping black hearts when they die from poison caused by the contact.

@@multilk6399 they remove the effect that : when the enemy dies from poision by tears they drop black heart . Now its contact poison only.
Some run ideas:
A run where you get every bomb item/synergy.
Taking red heart damage makes you r-key the floor/run.
Angel and Devil pools are switched
If I wanted to balance the golden death certificate: first use is normal death certificate, then it starts at 6 charges. Fully charging it and using it lets you pick another normal item but it adds item quality*2 (quality 0 counts as quality 1) charges to the max charge. So if you pick quality 4 again, you need 14 charges to use the death certificate again (6 + 4*2), and 22 if you pick another quality 4. Charge bar should just be a number over a number displayed so you don't have to keep track of both, batteries and its items and trinkets work as you expect.
8:52 It used to give black hearts upon killing an poisoned enemy (kinda like maw of the void used too) If you where careful and smart enught you where almost always on full health
Maybe I'm late, but Serpent's Kiss only spawn black hearts when it killed enemies with the contact poison damage (because it also inflicts poison on contact).
Back in the day, it used to drop black hearts whenever an enemy was killed by either contact on tear poison.
That transition from basement to dross was clean

Serpents kiss was once an item that could single handily carry a run on black hearts alone. It was a free win with Blue Baby, it was so good.
Currently at 12:05 in the video and I am getting mad about the fact they haven’t got Dr. Fetus yet. Also fun fact: troll bombs like ones that spawned in the video when they took damage have all the bomb modifications from items like other types of bombs.
This meant they were just boring, a coward, or both for not getting any bomb modification items using Gold death certificate.

You could balance reusable desth cert by making it take your items at random until the quaality of the removed items is equal to the quality of the chosen item

A fun idea for a run is to start with the Golden Death Cert, roll a random number generator each time it is fully charged, and then you HAVE to take the item that matches the number's id. Maybe even start with some battery items to make it spicy
Maybe as a bonus rule it can only take items from Golden Death Cert. But that might be too boring
Serpent's kiss is one of my fav items to build on tainted cain cuz of the black hearts
Serpent kill can only drop black heart when a enemy is killed by poison dealt by contact.it's so good with t mag, t forgotten, and any from of invulnerability
The best way to balance a reusable death certificate would be this. Every time you use it the items in the death certificate world are cut in half randomly. First choice is everything, second choice is half of all the items, third choice is half of the half. So on until there are not items left.
Balance reusable dc by allowing you to choose any item from a pool chosen at random every time is used. So you use it once, you are taken to a room of only devil pool items. Use it again, secret pool. Etc.

Uhh... I don't know if you take fan-made challenges, but I got you one: Planetarium boy!
You start with ALL vanilla Planetarium items and that's it. You can't pick up ANY other item (no health ups either) but you can choose what final boss to end the run on (Mega Satan, Delirium, Mother, the Beast)! Good luck!

Had a thought where maybe a reusable DC functions like Eraser where it can only be used once per floor, but on top of that, at the start of a floor it takes a whole 12 charges to activate.
Could still be abused by characters like Bethany, but the 12 charges needed would make it a bit harder to rig than with Eraser?

When you inevitably farm blessings w/ gold dc, use the first dc to get diplo, then use the copied gold dc to get schoolbag and then you can just take both with you!
Gold DC - free use once, but then eats a life every other use, no matter how much hp you have.
my idea on balancing golden death certificate is that it has 24 charges, but getting hit takes away 10

Serpent's Kiss used to work a bit differently than it does now, back then any enemy that died off poison damage had a chance to drop black harts. Yes, scorpio, contagion all that stuff synergized with it!
to answer your question (or at least try) in minute 2:23, how about the item only needs one charge, but you can only charge it by dying, or maybe by losing all (or your only) extra lives (?)
I mean death certificate is called death certificate, so it would make sense if a golden death certificate brought death with it. Maybe make it so every time you use it, there's a chance to die and also make it so it ignores lifes. If not then you could just take dead cat once and would be fine for the rest of the run

Gold DC nerv could be 64 room charges and you need to do these rooms, because batteries and items wont help to charge

serpant's kiss is pretty much scorpio plus dead tooth with possible black hearts
you gain poison shot and poison enemies that touch you, if enemies die from poison made from contact they most likely drop black hearts
Would have loved to seen what a Book of Virtues does with a Golden Death Certificate
The change they made to Serpent's Kiss is that the ranged poison no longer has a 20% chance for killed enemies to drop a Black Heart; you have to inflict it with melee (which means taking damage in most situations)
The chance to drop is permanent once the poison has been applied, which is why it used to be really strong. 3% chance for an enemy you kill in one hit to drop a Black Heart.
It has similar use cases as Midas Touch - combine it with Aries and high Speed and you can farm Black Hearts off of contact-only enemies.
He should’ve took school bag so he could bring both death certs
only tangentially related but new idea for a Q4, an item that applies a 0.1 shot speed multiplier , thereby ensuring accidentally grabbing shot up items will barely affect your damage

You could limit yourself to a certain amount of rooms. Example, only pick an item from the first 3 rooms you walk through that use
Gold certificate run but you intentionally take commonly bad items (prank run lmao)

You should do a run where you start with GDC and the cursed orb you made (that way the only good items you can get are from the GDC (or you can make a rule to only get low quality items from it to torture yourself)) it would be pretty cool
Suggestion: play a run where you only take hp ups, planetariums and use gold death cert. No opening treasure rooms
I think the golden death cert should be called "Victory Certificate" and its just death cert but revwrsed vibes. Otherwise its identical (AND BETTER STRUCTURED)

It seems that golden death cert is a permanent addition. I thought it wouldn’t be simply from how broken it is but hey to each their own. If that’s the case I would love to see an optimised rock bottom run. Like polymepheus + haemolacria shots with 120 tears or something. Cant be that hard if you get rock bottom, school bag and blighted dice.

I think that a fun way of using the reusable death certificate would be to use it only to get synergies with items that you got "normally'' in the run and, if there are multiple of them, take the worst one. Might be a fun way to show some unusual/bizarre synergies.
