- Making your Subaru Impreza, WRX or Forester faster for FREE.. surely not ! These actually work and wont cost a penny ... well almost :)
I would strongly recommend speaking to your mapper to check your car checked over and if needed the map tweaked afterwards 👍

Snorkus delete was the first thing i did to my forester xt. Inplace of the void went a 3.5'' velocity stack that fits the airbox opening snug and sucks air from the right fender. Block off the other hole left from the snorkus - happy days. Helps a little bit with the turbo spool up while hearing it and the BPV when comming off the throttle.
Nice work 😎
slim floss type toothpicks, zip ties work best for TMIC fin straightening. toothpick gives the correct spacing between fins. and zip ties to make it evenly spaced all the way to the back of the TMIC. Soak in tub of water, slosh it around, drain out. tape the holes up, pour gasoline inside . slosh it around, drain all dirty oil sitting inside (because no AOS = blow-by oil goes into TMIC). Soak in water again, drain. this is a good way to clean the TMIC.
Very good tips 👍👍
great video ive had a 2009 wrx for a while now and im glad you brought up the headers at the end. im a tool and die maker so using die grinders is much of my trade i work in. so porting is right up my alley. good to know the stock ones are good to high power levels.
My pleasure.. Subaru oem parts are amazing quality.. They just need a little help to get to high power rather than replacing 👌
1:33 I believe the word that's missin is bollocks! LOL!!
Lol.. Absolutely 🤣
Nice video keep them coming.
Few things, remove spare wheel and jack and replace with foam can, save 19kg.
When brakes new changing, replace with two piece discs instead of one piece, they save around 2kg per disc. 👍
Great idea re spare wheel. Most with upgraded brakes won't be able to use a spare wheel anyway as it won't fit over them. Yeah to the discs.. Much lighter 😎
Do you recommend doing a matching grind to the heads that you do to the headers? On the ej205's i have apart i see the carbon ring is about the same on the heads and the headers.
Hi Loren. It doesn't seem to affect the flow out of the heads (at least not until power is much higher) , just the lip on the exhaust side 👍
Very good video hopefully see you soon
Thanks Paul.. See you soon 😎
Great video! Love your content.
What is your opinion on air/oil separators, do they do more harm than good? Maybe you can talk about them in a future video?
Cheers from Sweden.
Thank you very much. Aos / catch cans will be featured in the next video hopefully.. Just waiting on stock to arrive 😎
@@racedynamix with this aos video, if you can talk about the one way ball valve under the induction butterfly. it works by vacuum/pres but whats the point? thanks, keep up the good work!
25kg of that sound deadening is pretty crazy. Nothing puts a smile on your face like some weight reduction! Response everywhere.
Thanks for the video, mate!
Reuben
With a track car you can go wild and remove lots. Very easy to shave 100kgs of weight and lots more possible beyond that.
Knitting needles are the best to use for straightening fins the coated ones
Great tip 👍
great pun@@racedynamix
Another great video. Thank you
Does my 2011 sti (jdm ej207) have tumbler valves?
Yes it should do. If you look at the bottom of the inlet manifold on either side there will be a mechanism or sensor. If neither and just flat metal then it doesn't 👍
@@racedynamix that’s great, thanks again
@@jamesgreenwood9464 no worries 👍
Using dry ice on the sound proofing is a win
Good shout. It was cold enough yesterday morning here anyway but dry ice would work well 😎😄
Hi Duncan, just wondering if its worth putting a harvey trick up pipe on my wrx wagon? Currently got a Haywood and Scott Up Pipe mated to Fastline TD04 Hybrid.
Thanks
I think the haywrd and scott one is fine tbh. There may be a small spool up difference but no extra power imo.
@racedynamix Cheers thanks. I'll leave the current one on 👍
Regarding the throttle body coolant bypass: (1) if you want to run an aftermarket water temp gauge (some Subarus just have a "to hot/too cold" light) the throttle body coolant hoses can be rerouted through a small fitting that holds a coolant temperature sensor.
(2) Since you have dug that far to get to the throttle, why not take it off and give the upstream side some porting to smooth off that aluminium lip. Just don't mess with the gap between the closed throttle butterfly and the point it nearly touches on the inside of the throttle body.
Great suggestions 🙏😎
My MY00 UK turbo has put itself on a diet, the NSR arch has definitely lost some weight and so have all the rear suspension parts 😖
Lol and 😢 at the same time. Good to see you yesterday Paul and thanks again 🙏
Buy some heat shielding gold tape and cover the left side of the intercooler. When standing in traffic or standing still after going fast the intercooler heatsoaks allot less!!! Massive difference as normally you cannot touch the top mount.
If you have it off also do the exposed underside bits (not the fins ofcourse)
Nice mod.. I like that 😎
@@racedynamix yes works pretty well. Noticed it got so hot I couldn’t even touch the top mount after some spirited driving. After this it would be fine. Was running a bigger STI intercooler on my Forester STI which extended over the turbo heat shield so decided to give it a go.
@@marvinvisser5039 👍👍
Thanks for the Sunday video! So if I go and remove the tgv' and Port my headers.. Would it be recommended to retune? Just did get a tune and the guy is far away 😂🙈
Yes.. That would be my recommendation. Do it before your next tweak 👍
@@racedynamix haha great.
Think this will me the way to go.. Or really start with logging and than understanding before doing changes by myself.
Get it on a diet this winter and see how confident I feel in the spring 😉 thx again. Have a nice Sunday
@@green_bugeye thanks Mate.. Enjoy your day 😎
Is there any downside removing the sound deadening? Is it a point replasing it with something aftermarket for a daily drive
The downside is some more noise and vibration. If you stick to areas which don't directly impact the cabin then it is minimal. Aftermarket stuff is just as heavy tbh but easy to add back if noise is a problem 👍
Ported stock oem headers for 500 + hp have you got any videos/dyno runs was always told 500+ needs aftermarket and preferably trick up pipe ? Currently re-shelling my hawk sti and going forged with gtx3071r from fastline ? Will ported stock headers make 500hp ? Or am i better off with fuji/rcm ?? Will be coming to you for mapping
Most I have made on std ported is 594bhp. Admittedly most at that power level succumb to the shiney gt spec but the std outlast them (gt spec are prone to cracking) and spool fabulous.
@@racedynamix thats my only concern with paying nearly £1000 for aftermarket headers heard nothing but stories of them lasting few years before they crack especially heat wrapped, well i already have my stock headers got nothing to loose porting them and seeing what they make 🤷🏻♂️ if im not happy with the figures supposed i could go aftermarket and get a map tweak or add meth 🤣 would you recommend a harvey up pipe with oem ported headers ?
@@robgreen4851 the Harvey uppipe was brought about to combat the larger diameter of the gt spec. Not needed with oe uppipe in my experience.
@@robgreen4851 I cracked 2 sets of the gt spec on my own car so feel the pain. The last set didn't crack but I didn't wrap them 👍
@@racedynamix appreciate all the info and most importantly your honesty, have to be careful spilling all the trade secrets they might come for you 🤣
Don't suppose Duncan, you got my email on the 7th Oct, after one of the Q&A's? Cheers, Phill.
I have just checked and yes it is there.. I will go through it tomorrow 👍 Sorry it got overlooked 😔
@@racedynamix no worries. Didn't know what the email address was, so tried a couple I think!
TGV are an absolute nightmare in my experience....100% ditch those out of the car. I can't wait for mine be replaced for some Sti stacks soon. The amount of issues that system has given me in the past year is horrible.
Agreed. Even if no gains just removing a failure point is a good plan 👍
Stickers dont forget the stickers 😂
Always worth another 10 bhp 😜
Would porting the headers need a remap?
Hi Pedro.. It would be worth getting it checked. Helping the air out of the engine will probably change the fuel mixture. Best to batch this together with some other mods before your next map adjustment 👍
Turbo de-step same as headers.. and less bacon sausage baps..!!
Bacon and sausage is the brekkie of champions 🤣
Almost every blown subaru engine ive seen had a CAI in it, other than the massive turbo, oil starvation being other secondary causes. even if the ecu adjusts the air-fuel ratio properly, the physical presence of more air volume is still being mixed 🌪. This causes more heat in the engine 🌡(fire theory: a lighter needs oxygen to give a flame 🔥). Premature piston ringland cracks, spun rod bearings, head gaskets, etc.. CAI is usually used for Racing where the engines burn more air and fuel, wear out in few events, and gets rebuilt a few times. CAI used in daily cars leads to that end result eventually. Stock air intake is where the reliability is. A engine running a little rich has a slight effect on cooling. Other models may be able to tolerate lean conditions better due to their architecture and physics. but subaru is finicky with changes.
Ever thought that the people who put cai drive their cars harder? And that's the reason they blow up ?
If you have changed wheel size remove spare wheel 😂
Absolutely 👍👍😄
