Borje might well be the most respected and loved Leaf in the team's history. One of tthe most talented players to ever wear the Leaf jersey, by no stretch was he among the league's best at fisticuffs. But he was right there among the league's toughest. No one who played in his era, with him or against him, would deny that.

That's what broke me, both on the honours night and then on Borje's tribute night. Seeing my hometown hero, Darryl, crying, literally holding his teammate's hand high - I was crying with him! Such love between those two.

@@EchoesDaBear I also cried Darren. Borge so strong to do this with Darryl & Family and The Leaf Team & all the NHL Players & Fellow Swedes & Fans honoring and showing their love for Borge along with all of Toronto . To see Borge like that with all the emotion he was feeling broke my heart. As Darryl said with the future progression of this terrible disease and would only get worse we have to give thanks that Borge is now at Peace & no longer suffering. For this I give thanks that he was called home on Thanksgiving Day to be with GOD. Borge showed courage on & off the Ice and I was happy that he was strong & brave enough to come to The Scotiabank Arena & see & feel the love that the whole Hockey World had for him. I am writing this with tears flowing. Borge along with Lou Gherig 2 of THE GREATEST ATHLETES & COURAGEOUS HUMANS TAKEN FROM US BY ALS. That Night Borge if he was able to talk would have said " For 2 weeks you've been reading about the bad break Yet today I consider myself THE LUCKIEST MAN ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. This was the most emotional night on Ice with over 18,800 fans honoring Borge. He stood in the face of death surrounded with the love of Toronto & The World . Having said that, I thank you Canadians, and esp ppl of Toronto, that have honoured our Salming so much these few weeks. We have all been brought up with the ideal of Canadian hockey.

I'm 66 years old and I've followed this team since I was a young 5 year old. I'm in tears watching this video. He was a tremendous player and for him to endure the punishment, the ridicule from opposing players, opposing teams (mainly we all know who), showed all who follow this great game, how much of a warrior this man was. I'm very sad at the moment and I might be rambling, but the one good thing (if you can call it that) is that he won't have to suffer any more. I'd like to offer my condolences to his wife, his children, the rest of his family, his ex-teammates, the Leafs organization, his close friends and all the fans around the world that followed this wonderful Swedish defenseman. GOD BLESS YOU BORJE!!! May you RIP. A Maple Leaf in my heart forever.

I met him at the local gym here in Sweden said hi to him, chatted a bit and asked him if we could work out togheter? Ofc he said! We did crunches and him being almost 30 years older than me, he beat me like nothing! I'm a woman as well and he was extremly fit and I'm pretty sure he'd beat any guy in their 20's. I come from the town of his first professional team in Sweden and we chatted about old memories and had some good laughs. Absolute legend and the hero that got my father to get me in a pair of skates. I also love Börje's view of blocking shots - it came from playing hockey on the streets, whiter it'd be on ice, gravel or tarmac - that's what you did!
Also, mad respect for Nylander for taking off his gloves and actually clapping his hands in tribute, stellar guy that one too.
