Country 30/193
Welcome to our third (and last) video exploring Bulgaria! This country has continued to surprise us, and we're so excited to share with CZcams through our travel vlogs! We started our day leaving Sofia in a shuttle and heading to our first stop of the day - Rila Seven Lakes National Park. Here, we had one (maybe two) goals. Hike the seven lakes, and make it back down in time to catch the shuttle to our next stop.
Bulgaria isn't somewhere that came to the front of our minds when we pictured hiking, but it now has a permanent place in our memory because of this incredible hike! From the chair lift, to the emerald colored lakes, to the seemingly endless view, the seven Rila lakes hike is still one of our favorites.
After finishing our hike and making it back down to our shuttle in time, we headed to our second and final stop of the day - Rila Monastery! This is an active monastery nestled in the Rila mountains. Incredible scenery and gorgeous architecture come together to create an extremely unique experience, only to be had in a few places in the world, including Rila :)
Hopefully this travel guide and vlog gives you an idea of things to do as a day trip from Sofia! Our goal has been to show some of the wonderful things to do and see in Bulgaria, so we hope you're inspired to get out and travel as well!
Make sure to subscribe to see our next travel vlogs, coming from the exact opposite side of the world as we make our move to Alaska! :)

Never would've guessed you could find this in Bulgaria. The lakes are unbelievably beautiful. If we ever go, definitely adding seven lakes to the list!
So beautiful! Well worth a stop
we have so many other beautiful places, this is just one of them :)
Love this! My sister lives in Bulgaria and I'm going back to visit this summer. I've never done the seven lakes hike, but you made it look stunning! Bulgaria is SO underrated and I love seeing this secret little part of the planet. A couple Bulgarian pronunciation tips: Sofia is often mispronounced to sound like the girl's name, but it's actually soh-fya, not so-fee-ya. And the Rila mountains/monastery is pronounced ree-la.
Thank you! It was such a beautiful hike! I feel like our pronunciations suffered the most in Bulgaria because our phones never had service to look them up 😭 thank you though, I didn’t know that about Sofia!
Mega schön😍☘️
Amazing views. Thanks for sharing this video with us :) There are very useful information in this video
Thanks so much! The hike was beautiful 😍
Great video! That hike looked jaw-droppingly gorgeous! :)
Thank you! it was a great hike :)
Why does this remind me of Colorado so much?! That hike looked AMAZING. I would have been worried about making it down too, especially if you didn’t make that scary chair lift and had to hike another two hours back down! 😂
I think the shades of green/blue are similar 😂 yeah we were obviously very concerned about making that chair lift!
Аз съм Радо!
Кой по дяволите е Колорадо?
Well done! Our favorite part of this video was definitely the hike. Breathtaking views and serene lakes! Thank you for sharing your experience and this beautiful part of the world with us. Glad we found your channel! 👍
Thank you! It’s such a beautiful part of the world 🤗
A nice video guys. Some lovely places to visit in Bulgaria.
Thank you! and we didn’t even scratch the surface!
yes - looks like plenty to do. @@AshleyandChristian
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! ☺️
The monastery dates back to the 10th century, when Ivan Rilski had lived in solitude in a cave nearby. The only remaining building from that time is the watch tower at 11:28. The other structures have been burned and destroyed and re-built multiple times through the ages.
Heading here at the end of the week! Thanks for sharing the video. ❤
Ahh have fun! We loved it!
💚💚🇱🇰
Thanks for sharing! Do you know what shuttle service you used to take you to the hike and monastery? Was it a private ride or a group?
I’ll look it up! It was a group shuttle. But it wasn’t a group trip or anything, transport only

Awesome! Thank you so much! My wife and I are going to Bulgaria and Romania this spring, we appreciate all of your information!
@@chrissmith7881 You're welcome! We spent a good amount of time in both of those and really enjoyed it :)
This is the ONLY side of Bulgaria youtubers talk about. Rila lakes and food(Sofiyska Banitsa). Basically the current algorithm hype with easy access from Sofia. There are many more places with arguably better views in Bulgaria. Not that Rila is bad, it's great, but far from the only or top place in Bulgaria.
Definitely agree at this point 😂 when we originally went I had a hard time finding a vlog on it! By the time we posted the video, I’d see 4-5 hiking videos here
Aha sunny beach is the best. The alcohol is cheap and you have a beach. Don't get the entire lake thing but maybe it's just me.
C - Cyrillic. Not Kirilic..
Pay attention, it’s not Sophia , but it’s Sòfia !,
