Heathrow Pods

- A ride experiencing the excellent Heathrow Pods, the personal, electric, rapid transit system between Heathrow Terminal 5 and Business Parking A and B. The vehicles use opportunity charging which means that they top up their batteries at the stations and at designated parking areas around the system. Progress is rapid and vehicles are laser guided and steered by the computer on board. The system works entirely automatically with a controller keeping a watchful eye over everything with the ability to manage any breakdowns or passenger issues. All in all this is an excellent system with real promise to be applied elsewhere. I intend to return soon.
I really love how everything that is happening is explained by the pod

That is because you didn't go to Terminal 5
Me neither. Where are them???
Me too ! Lol
These connect terminal 5 to their business parking lot. It's not a parking lot for business class, it's just a 'nicer' parking lot that costs £30 for a day

Because normal air pods don't exist in real life?
Living in the future. They should have these in city centres to take cars off the road.
Imagine the chavs riding around in them and trashing them. Or homeless sleeping in them
@@doms6741 maybe they can implement a system in which every person has a unique user card that must be scanned before entering the pod, the travel fare will automatically be deducted when u scan to leave. if they leave a mess behind and they have cameras inside they can automatically deduct a "cleaning charge". But I think self driving cars will be more popular than private pods for public transportation.
I’ll keep my car
booklvrxo I believe they call that a "bus pass" lol
@@Riyamu0779 the reason I didn't call it a bus pass was bc what I'm thinking of is something more of an ID card. Don't know where you're from but they don't have that here.

This is pretty basic compared to tesla. The pod drives on segregated track and the central system is probably aware of the positions of all pods.
BigDickMcGee not sure why you’re comparing it to Tesla, but if we are then Tesla is winning in the deaths caused by machine department.
This is just a downgrade in many ways
I live in London and i never knew about these until a few weeks ago ! It truly is like something out of an 80's sci fi movie.
Yeah, Bladerunner. Hopefully these have a better ending.
They 're so cool! Modern, state-of-the-art. Like the video.
Wait!!! Do they still have this? Cuz I live in the UK and have travelled back and forth home but never see these at Heathrow
Yes they're still there, the pods are in a sectioned off area for those who bought access though. I used them when i travelled to New York and back and they're great fun!
If used them before, when they first installed them,it was actually fun.
They are actually new. It's part of Heathrow's Terminal 5 project

Am I the only one thinking the subway from kingsman
Nope
Woah, I didn't even know these existed wth.
My favourite things, really hope these become public transport or even personal use some day, I'm disabled, wheelchair user, can't drive even with hand controls, I don't like buses because most of the time I can't even get the wheelchair spot on one, I do like the metrolink trams but that can get crowded with people standing around me which can feel claustrophobic. Having these would solve all those things.
And those wouldn't get crowded...
Man, it looks so much like that tram journey to Black Mesa at the beginning of Half Life 1

I mean I think I could walk faster than that
'Standing' on electric stairs is slow too. And people tend to use it more than regular stairs...i dont mind this being slow plus it seems an enjoyable ride
I rather been slow that travels with weird people.
I had this idea many years ago. Cool to someone has actually built it.
Seriously. This is something out of Logan’s Run. So new age. Welcome to the 22nd Century...
I wonder if this technology will take over trains or trams in years to come on a bigger scale
Probably
It's literally just worse than them, I sure hope it doesn't
0:35 it says ""Our journey from Bu§§ine§§ parking station B to T5 takes 5mins""
I am guessing its for the rich not for us
Also guessing they r using iPhone 20 Xr,
Its not cheap but also not expensive. Any middle class person will be able to afford it.
Stupid Fall it’s £30 a day.... I’d rather just walk
This is Heathrow interterminal transport to terminal 5. You can't walk as there is no footpath only those pods. They are free.
@@tarafficstory You're getting confused between the system that you have to use between T5A to T5B and T5C, this is from a car park to T5, it costs £5 per person. The £30/day is the price it costs to park in the car park that the POD's go from.
Why iPhone 20 XR? The R is the cheaper version. If their rich they would've got the normal one.
I've never seen anything like this on the news or the TV never heard of this sort of thing around Heathrow nothing has been mentioned about it at all it's the first I've ever seen of them

@@GSCt1000 why?
@@AyyK I don't know. But I guess its money, and an expensive experiment, which isn't ready to transport the million people that travel every year... if that was used by everyone, it definitely wouldn't be in the relatively new looking condition. This looks amazing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What is the underlying technology? How much is self driving?
Its on a track
Great we want a same system at roissy cdg
OK BUT WHY HAVEN'T I SEEN A SINGLE INCREDIBLES REFERENCE IN THE COMMENTS YET?!?!?
I think we need this type of rapid system in our airport here in The Philippines, it is very important to the elderly and the PWDs
I think Monorail would be the best solution instead since it can carry more people between Airport Terminals and other areas, so it is more efficient and also faster. Then have one of the train line have station at the NAIA/MIA terminal, even just one since monorail would connect the 4 terminals instead.
@@kornkernel2232 Its like MRT, citizens and PWDs cant seat down, so maybe we need pods for elderly and PWDs only. And also i agree with the Monorail for the Public :)
I think it is for the rich so they don’t have to go on the bus
I don't like travelling with the riff-raff. No offence of course.😏
No it's not
Davey Blue Eyes To someone else, you are riff raff though...
No actually it’s for those who are travelling in terminal 5 exclusively.

Hi Daniel, new Irish subscriber here in Manchester U.K. - while I’ve seen these Heathrow pods before, aside from Dublin Airport, I can’t see why these pods can’t be used for getting from Dublin Port’s Stena & Irish Ferries passenger terminals at North Wall into Dublin City Centre - currently, we don’t even have the LUAS trams going all the way to the Port (only as far as the Gibson Hotel/02 Arena) and not even DART Underground - arriving off the ferry from Holyhead on SailRail, we usually have a lot of luggage, so this would be an ideal solution for us rather than the cramped buses they use, as there is not even taxis operating to/from the port
