    Terrific install video. I just bought the rack used from another 4runner owner, and he backed the pieces up nicely and this video took me across the finish line with it. I'll be online for mounting accessories soon enough. Thanks for putting this out there with easy access!

    @trocks4321 Před 2 lety +2

    WOW This is Scary - I really do not want to be a "Karen" , However, there are two things in your video that made me cringe. #1: You did not clean the valley out before applying silicone. I do a lot of marine and auto work with different resins including epoxy's, standard glass resins, silicones, etc. Cleaning is ESSENTIAL to ensure a proper bond/seal (this is basic 101 on any seal that needs to be water tight) #2 Why in the name of pete are you using a drivetrain / high heat type gasket maker. I love this stuff but would never use it on the roof of a vehicle . It is going to be horrible to try to get off later if needed and it is not UV stable. For those of us in Florida or any southern state, this will begin to crack and potentially leak in about 3-5 years due to UV break down. I would use 3M 4000 or similiar HD sealer with UV protection for the roof on my vehicle.

    • @Victory4x4
      @Victory4x4  Před 2 lety

      The sealer is under the brackets and bolt heads, so UV stability isn't really an issue, also drivetrain gasket maker is readily available in many people's toolboxes and more than adequate for this application. Any other sealer above this would certainly be fine.

    • @PacificCoastMaps
      @PacificCoastMaps Před 7 měsíci

      Great advice! I bought the recommended Ultra Black RTV, and it is an oil resistant gasket maker not really made for this use. Be nice if they could include a note that the Ultra Black will work, but that the 3M 4000 would be a better choice

    • @Victory4x4
      @Victory4x4  Před 3 lety

      You can trim around the mounts which takes more time, or you can just trim it up too and between the mounts and leave the mount portion open.

    We paid someone to put this on for us and are getting the most ridiculous noise coming from it as soon as we went over 45mph. Its unbearable. Trying to figure out what the issue is but we can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

    • @Victory4x4
      @Victory4x4  Před 3 lety +1

      It's most likely that the front fairing is not pressed down tight to the roof. You should be able to loosen the front fairing mounting bolts, push it down to the roof and tighten them back up. If not, the rack mounting bolts may need to be loosened to lower the front of the rack.

    • @Victory4x4
      @Victory4x4  Před 3 lety

      Yes you need to remove the trim for the install. You can however cut it to fit around the mounts and put it back in.

      @@Victory4x4 ok, thank you for the response. When it comes to waterproofing and putting the silicone down, do you put it directly over the hole so when you insert the bolt it gets into the thread in the mounting location,? And does that negatively affect putting thr stock rails back?

    • @Victory4x4
      @Victory4x4  Před 3 lety

      @@justinbailey6079 you can put it around the holes, but you would also want some silicone under the bolt head so it seals that location as well.
