  • In this film we take a cab ride on the East Kent Railway, once part of the Colonel Stephens empire, from Shepherdswell to Eythorne. Riding in Class 101 DMU 101682, our journey of almost 2 miles includes passing through the 477 yard long Golgotha Tunnel, before reaching Eythorne, in the heart of the former East Kent coalfield.

Did this earlier in the year riding on a class 08. Great to be up front with the driver, loved it. Great people. Love the video.

Thanks! From memory, I think I was only charged a fiver and lovely to be in the cab of a Class 101 DMU again!

Classic Traction. Fantastic ! I live in Tilmanstone a few minutes from the station and have had the privilege of working an Amateur radio special events station celebrating the East Kent colliery line at shepherdswell in one of their carriages , with Dover amateur radio club.
Many times I've driven on the roads parallel to the old east Kent colliery line between Shepherdswell and Eythorne with my girls waving out the windows at the train as we pass it by!
A historic line maintaining a valuable part of East Kents mining coal mining and railway heritage. Once again, thanks for posting!

Thanks Jon, the East Kent is really an under-appreciated little line! Steve

Went there last week on Tuesday (31/7/18). Obviously no trains running but a great set up. Had a Coffee in your Café at Shepherdswell. Great to learn about the Kent Coal Fields.

Nice ride, but lacking any information which is a shame.
