I was a CNA in my 20s....it was the HARDEST job I have ever had! Everything this man acts out is 100% gospel! Now in my 40s as a nurse...I LOVE my CNAs and don’t abuse them like most do! To be a RN you should do your time as a CNA!

Natasha Jasper - I am a former CNA and eventually got my RN degree. Throughout my healthcare career, I have worked with lazy CNAs and lazy nurses and it eventually took its toll - doing everybody else’s job. I left bedside nursing. I remain in the healthcare field but in the area of sales and it is not as physically exhausting. I work with a team but not in the same way as working in a hospital setting. With the job I currently have, I have only myself to blame if I am not able to meet my goals.

Shout out to all the CNAs, I love you all!! I've worked in a hospital where we didn't have CNAs most of time, never on weekends. I work nights. I don't think RNs/LPNs know how much work it is when you have to do EVERYTHING yourself. Just having someone to get the vital signs, get finger sticks, and help change a pt is a huge help! As a travel nurse now, I've seen good and bad. But when you have a good team and everyone does their part, and work well together, it will be great shift.

When I was a CNA I actually had that happen one night. It was already a long ass night with multiple codes. Nurse walks in to a pts room I'm in (yes already taking care of another pt) and she tells me "so-and-so needs a bath and bed change due to incontinence." Now she had to literally walk from the front of the floor alllll the way to the back (30pt floor) to tell me that. I gave her the most "are you f'n kidding me" look and just straight up told her, "ok, thanks for telling me that you're going to change them." She was also known to be a bully RN and never messed around with me like that again. I had no issue calling her out for her petty stuff. What really got me was that she had the balls to walk into a pts room and tell me that about another pt. Crazy.

    O...M... G! If this isn't truth I don't know what is!
I worked as a CNA. I remember one night I was at work. I was right smack in the middle of caring for a resident, when a nurse called out to me to get another resident's BP. Mind you, she was standing right smack in the doorway of the resident's room WITH her nursing cart.
I was like ok, but was thinking to do it AFTER I finished up with the resident I was CURRENTLY working wirh. Makes sense, right? But no, she wanted me to STOP what I was doing to get that BP, and when I didn't,she was yelling all loud saying "when I tell you to do something, I mean for you to do it right away!"
Y'all, it took me everything not to curse her out. And what was worse, she knew I was with another resident.
Now, I loved being a CNA; I loved helping people, but the work was so hard. The ratio of patients per CNA was too exhausting. Top off the heavy workload with lazy, nasty nurses, and I decided nursing was NOT for me.
I switched to the lab where I work now, and I LOVE it!

As a RN, I do whatever I can do for my patients to the point where some CNAs will ask me “oh why didn’t u tell me to do it” and Honestly if I have time to attend to the patient’s needs then I will complete the task (changing them, fetching water, and warming up food, or assisting them to the bathroom, etc) esp when there’s one pca on the floor. I am an RN and I work in the hospital setting. I don't ask the techs (STNA / PSA ), to do anything I wouldn't do myself. I have seen nurses who feel like cleaning a patient up, toileting, feeding, etc are all jobs for the tech, but to me they are opportunities for a skin assessment or to see a patient ambulate, a chance to do a thorough neuro assessment. This helps the patient, myself, and hopefully frees up the tech to be elsewhere. If you aren't working as a team in the healthcare setting, then patient and staff safety is always at risk

Well, we usually just complained to each other instead of that nurse. I worked at a place that was almost always short staffed, C.N.A wise. There were times, we'd have to stop doing what we were doing, to do help a nurse, with something that we didn't understand why she needed our help. Like to hold a a limb or turn someone. We turned people all the time by ourselves. Then she she's taken forever to do it. The whole time you're thinking of all the stuff you need to do and how you could've done what she's doing five times already by yourself. Maybe that's an exaggeration but when you're a C.N.A in a place that's short everyday. You learn to get things done, without the help.
The whole, "Can you get her some water" while the nurse is standing right there. That type of thing didn't happen as much but with some nurses, it was more common. Or the light is going off and she went in to give the resident their meds and didn't even ask them why their light was on. Or standing right under the light going off. Can't stop what she's doing to pop her head in. Sometimes they'd complain about us not doing something they asked right away. Like, we had nothing else to do that might be more important. Most nurses were cool even if they didn't get it. The few that complained, along with the some other staff that wasn't nursing were the ones who got me. Like, do you think all these walking up and down these halls are just trying to get some exercise or what?
It's a weird dynamic though, on one hand C.N.A.s are the lowest man on the poll on the other hand they kinda run the place.

This is soooo true. I’ve had nurses walk past the nourishment room just to tell me to get a patient some water 🙄 or they walk past call lights without even looking to see if patient is ok. They just have this idea that it’s not their job.
