A quick translation of the french introduction of the concert by Jordi Savall :
    "Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
    dear friends.
This concert is dedicated to Caravaggio, of course but also to Montserrat Figueras.
She has been with us for a lot of years. She continues to be among us, with all her spirit.
And as the poet said : she will never die. Because we only die when we are forgotten.
That's why all of these musics that talk about tears are not only tears of sadness but are also tears of joy for all the wonderful years she has been with us.
    Thanks a lot."
    *Applause*

My cat Maya wasn't as music trained as some of my previously owned cats.
For years she loved listening to Monserrat Figueras.
Once, I became brave and sung the Lullaby with Monserrat, and Maya tried to join in.
When Monserrat died we were say and listened to her singing more, even commenting you YT that her voice feels like ambrosia, whatever the taste is...
Yesterday my cat Maya died of ovarian cancer.
We listened to Monserrad several weeks ago.
Today, I am listening by myself and remembering both, the admired soprano and a lovely cat, grateful for inspiration and colour in life.

Modern and contemporary so called creation are so ugly, monstrous, decadent and poisonous; ...a death of beauty, a death of humman spirit in itself, too

YESSSS. It's funny to see how some of our most revered composers (and artists...) were undervalued in their time, usually for seeming "too old-fashioned" or "too weird". Of course, years later, fashion from the bygone eras stops mattering, and the quality of old music reveals itself. I'd love to see what will be valued from this scattered age of music, assuming the planet survives.

Thank you for posting this gorgeous concert! Jordi Savall is an international treasure. He and the artists with whom he surrounds himself are all extraordinarily gifted, and committed not just to "historically informed performance", but historically IMMERSED performance. Many pieces in this concert were written by Jordi Savall, and if they weren't labeled, one would hardly know that they did not originate in the distant past. His "Deploratio" pieces, sung by their son Ferran Savall, are truly a "bewailing", lamentations for his late collaborator, partner, and wife Montserrat Figueras, to whom this concert is dedicated.

When I wanted to listen to early music, I usually wind up listening to Jordi Savall. His understanding of this music is rarely matched. However, i had never heard Ferran sing before this video. Within two bars, I was automatically transported to North Africa, where I had worked for 4 years. I could see within my mind's eye the sands of the Sahara, the palm trees quietly swaying in the wind and the call to prayers from the nearby mosques carried though the atmosphere. There is such a spirituality in his voice. You just don't want it finish!

And, looking back into what we started in the '60s, I am proud to have been part of the 'waking up' of Baroque and Renaissance music and bringing it back to life. We were ridiculed by other musicians, at times laughed at for wanting to bring this music on period instruments, leave alone understanding the style, interpretations, sounds, ornamentation. It was a new world with almost weekly discoveries of new/ancient music. An honor it was indeed. And what is heard now is the ultimate product of our tenacious efforts, of several small groups around Europe who believed this was right.

I love how this kind of music, although it has tremendously skilled practitioners, isn't about "stars". There's a humility about it, a recognition that it's all about the whole performance. You could say that about any orchestral piece, but I think it's particularly true about this style and period of music.

A beautiful tribute to a loved one. For me personally Maestro Savall will do no wrong - such is his talent, love of music and desire to play it. The lineup of musicians to play with him here is just amazing - real masters of their craft and instrument. But the outstanding heartwrenching vocal performance here is by Ferran Savall - son of Jordi Savall and Monserrat Figueros, dedicatee of the concert. Listening to his wordless lament leaves me choked every time I listen to it. That is why I can't listen that concert often. Still it is as fantatstic as anything Maestro Savall does - authentic, thoughtful, musically superb and emotionally charged. Bravi.

Saga in. I first heard Jordi Savell in a dark time in my life some 20 years. Today his music came back to remind me we are not unique. We are subjected to plague and horror but must remember the gorgeous timeless human spirit.

Way to go!!! It's quite depressing and restrainer times we live, but to take far too seriously life at the end? Only thing we can get away at the very last is to realize it wasnt in vane, but still almost unbearable at moments. Life s got that charm to it though it's deeply melancholic most of the time.

Music that define life and all that mean beauty arts. That is the music who rise our mortal souls to Heaven, closer to Creator. Savall and his magical group are heavenly inspired and talentated. From all my hart, with respect, I congratulate him and thank's for the magnific interpretation. Let's hope that will remain something universal valuable on this beautiful earth, after the plague, of selfdistructed form of life, named (un)humankind. Not Corona is the virus, but the monsters and their - illuminated heads - who create it to exterminate.

Savall weaves an exquisite and ethereal web of sound in "Deploratio II" The voice spins outs threads of pure feeling with the strings of the viola da gamba echoing them in sympathetic vibration. The effect seems effortlessly natural; wholly uncontrived.

it's been a week since I discovered this video, but I can't help myself but listen to it multiple times a day. I'm so utterly entranced by the atmosphere these stellar musicians create in these 1,5 hours. I find myself experiencing emotions I didn't know I could feel, it taps into something so deep and ancient... the respect that these artists have for the works is also extremely tangible, and is audible in every note they play. It's incredible how music lives on and is revived throughout history, and these men have certainly done so with every piece they lay their hands on.
