- What does a land surveyor do? This meme-inspired video takes a look at what people think land surveyors do VS what land surveyors really do.

The best ad I have seen in 20 years...thanks! 😄
Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
I would like to see more detail on this subject since I took a class in Land Surveyor. The course was part of construction but nothing was mention about the appraisal. . .
nice work
I love it! 🌐🦺🛰️📐
LOL watch out for the DEATH BEAM...but wouldnt that be awesome for cutting brush!?
You forgot the part where all the women gather to dance around the total station
Cool music
very good 👌
This is one of the coolest video I ever seen, I love it. LOL especially the way our moms think of us. I give up explaining it 5years
i still dont know
And I still know nothing about a surveyor.....
Did they use a remix of Johnny B Goode, because I liked the song.
All so true...
Cute video just no information thanks for the cartoon I guess

I'm really confused , the video doesn't answer my question: what does a surveyor do? Must they have a licence in order to give someone a proper survey of a their property or land? are they registered with the municipal / city from where you live? Can I just buy a Lazer gaget and preform the job myself, what kind of cost are involved ,??? those are the questions that should be answered. Any help would be greatfull.
Annarose Sauder Hi Annarose, the short answer to your question is "surveyors measure land", but there is much more to it than that. We are professional measurers, but we also interpret historical and legal data. We interpret deeds, determine property boundaries, layout construction sites, map mines, roads, and city utilities, just to name a few.
Every state in the U.S.requires surveyors to be licensed. Every state also has its own laws regarding surveying practices. In some states, surveying and engineering are regulated by the same Board. In other states, surveyors have their own Board. Most states require a college degree and extensive experience in order to sit for the licensing exam, then the student must pass the exam. Upon passing, the licensee becomes registered in that state.
The laser device you refer to is known as a total station. This is one of several tools surveyors use for accurate measurement. The total station is not a GPS unit, as many people think. Most untrained people would not be able to buy this equipment and use it, even is they could afford the cost (which is quite significant). It only takes measurements, but the surveyor determines what to do with those measurements. The real complications with boundary surveying involve the fact that more often than not, deed descriptions do not perfectly match ground conditions, and the bearings on a deed often differ greatly from actual compass bearing. In fact, very few surveyors use compass bearings for modern surveys. Sometimes they differ by a little, sometimes by a lot. The surveyor has knowledge of how to handle these discrepancies.
The cost for land surveying services varies greatly, depending on the services needed, the area of the country you are located in, and the time frame when the survey is needed. In some parts of the country, pricing can range from a few hundred dollars for a small lot survey, to twenty thousand dollars and upwards for large tracts. Other services are priced on an hourly basis.
These are a few examples of the complexities of surveying, but there are many more. The best thing to do is speak with a surveyor in your area to determine what you need and how much it will cost. Good luck!
+Billingsley Surveying it didn't show the part where we have to fight off (or run from) bees, snakes, mosquitos, and other "not so friendly" forms of wild life of every size. and then there's the plant life, which is also really fun.....poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac etc. ahh the joy of surveying. but my TDS and my nikon and i wouldn't have it any other way ! hahaha
best wishes from s. carolina !
classy
As a surveyor, it's no wonder why there's a shortage 😂. There's almost no useful information out here.
Lol, it Would!... but ppl actually think that they're Taking Pictures through that thing (total Station) lol
Wait, so what's a land surveyor..?
A surveyor of land.
I love it.
This was a pretty funny video. However for those of you that are really interested in what we do, here is a really good video I just saw short and to the point. czcams.com/video/q20-DBAmm2E/video.html
I still have no idea what they do and why.
we studied 4 years its so hard to explain what does it means in just two lines :D
+Basman Massarwa from wikipedia: "Surveying or land surveying is the technique, profession, and science of determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them."
there, that wasn't so hard
hello my name rahim im from iran
I love this job
This explains nothing
Wasn't meant to explain..... This is what is referred to as a inside joke.

czcams.com/video/q20-DBAmm2E/video.html
Oh, so funny and entertaining.
lol awesome
I'm 18 and loving the job.
Wasting my time
Very frustrating. Gives absolutely no useful information.

Hmm... Nice cartoon. Why is finding yourself on the earth with use of GPS or magnetic pull such a big deal. You do basic freshman level math. And get to play with telescopes all day. Not a super hero in my eyes. But, as the base for all design I hope the Job of accuracy is taken very serious..
No need for them huh???
Hmmmm.......Go take a FS exam and tell me how freshman it is.
حلوة يا هيثم مع انى مش خرائط
waste of time
😠 waste of time
I'm not trying to insult you. I'm stating the facts. Take the GRE and score a 740 or greater then we'll talk about freshman level math on your FS exam... Your profession is needed, again as the gate keeper of building it monopolizes on the fact that building can not progress, according to code, without a survey. Super hero because your the first stepping stone to engineering, no. I just had two lots replatted and both lots were surveyed wrong by non-engineers (non master degree level personnel). Points were off by up to 18 inches. Well done super heros, you trekked through tall grass and mud, but in the wrong direction. SMH :/
