In this tutorial, we are going to show you a plugin for Grasshopper called ShapeMap that can help us map curves on a Brep or SubD. Youâll find out how to scale, rotate or apply any curve pattern on the desired geometry. This is particularly useful when mapping curves on complex fluid forms. The good thing is that itâs quite easy to use, but itâs a bit difficult to find the plugin and install it.
In the extended version of this tutorial, weâll show you a step-by-step process on how to download and install ShapeMap as it is not available on Food for Rhino website. Currently, itâs only available on a single Chinese website, so weâll help you to get it and try it out for yourself.
***IMPORTANT - please keep in mind that in order to install ShapeMap, you need to have access to WeChat App. We can't help you with WeChat App verification.
**** UPDATE - 15.11.2022 - It seems that the developers of ShapeMap just release the open version on Food4Rhino, so you don't have to use the complex process of installation and verification through WeChat. You can download and install the plugin from here:

I see an exe file here, but it's scary to install. Is it supposed to be like this? There's more in grasshopper format

Hey guys, i did not quite get the concept of the base and target line. Maybe someone could explain it to me?
So Shape map needs two flat lines on a plane to define the relationship of the 2d projected pattern to the 3d projected pattern. Similair to how orient sometimes works in rhino.
So all you need to do is : add a line component in grasshopper - right click the line component - choose "set one line" - It will open rhino- In rhino click near the brep once and draw a line more or less the same size as brep and click.
Then do the same thing over again with another line component and hook them to the shape mapper and boom.
Note OP says after this point, line size isnt important as the area stays the same. @ 2:27

Really a pain to have to first install wechat. But gave it a try nonetheless. After two hours trying to even get an English version going could not make an account. Got stuck on final step of signup again and again and no clue given as to why can't finish signup. Giving up.. quite frustrating love to try out shape tool

How to change size of one panel?
The link Wechat (Rhino3D) is sending - is not working anymore - Does someone knows a solution for that?

There wasn't the download link, just download instructions. You need the WeChat app to download and register your license. One account can register two devices.
Can this work on rhino 7 and i have done all the installation process but in the data panel i am getting "null"?? Do you know why ?

I also had the same problem a couple of times. Try to move and copy the inital geometry and reference again into ShapeMap. I know it sounds weird but I did the same process multiple times and it solved the problem. Hope it helps!

First, you need to make sure you have a Wechat to install the plugin. After that, within the app you can send request for the download link.

The plugin is free and you can find and download it by yourself, but you need to have a WeChat. Otherwise, you won't be able to install it. Paid content at our Patreon is only for those who need help with installation instructions.
