Back when Disney had original ideas, top tier CGI, music and acting
Not really original. The story of Davy Jones is an old myth.
But yes to the rest. Tho, they still have those things.

Ah, love, a dreadful bond
Tell me Willium TurnAAAAAA do you feear dethhhhhhhhha
because the whole point of an afterlife is that it's meant to be paradise
@@gamerstheater1187 the idea of afterlife is meant to comfort people who fear death
He turned into a monster because of her, suffered for a very long time, felt betrayed, waited for her, even hated her. But he still uttered her name at the exact moment of his death. What a brilliant man and a well-written character. I'll always remember Davy Jones as one of the greatest "villains."
That dang woman played with Davy Jones :c
I think he was an unwise and weak man. He let hatred and resentment fuel him because of a woman's betrayal. I am not saying that I would have done anything differently. We all have a malevolent nature inside us and it is very hard to acknowledge it and resist it. It takes a lot of courage and wisdom.
I believe the story of Davy Jones is a very important archetype. The individual has an immense capacity for good, but also a dangerous capacity for evil. I have learned that in order to prevent the latter from dominating, we have to acknowledge its existence. Each one of us has to look at Auswitch and the Gulags and understand that this was about ME. Each one of us has to see him/herself as a German camp guard and understand the process that would lead him/her to become one. This idea of understanding our capacity for evil and the divinity of the individual can be found in the writings of people like Alexander Sholzenytsin, Dostoyevsky, Carl Jung, and Jordan Peterson, and it is one of the oldest realizations of humanity and especially western civilization and religion. The individual and their speech and potential are the most important and powerful things in the world.
Davy Jones did not have the courage and wisdom to understand his capacity for evil, and so he became a villain.
@@ontyam :v how are you supposed to move on from being cursed to not set foot on land every 10 years?

It’s crazy that the CGI for him somehow seems better than some you see today.
Bc it was made with people that cared and not just a cheaper way out.
Perks of having a director with a VFX background, he knew exactly how to set up the shots for the maximum result.
Hollywood doesn’t like spending too much money these days. Or original ideas, for that matter.
@@Slappapi think the main problem is that the producer don't know/care how much work and time it takes for the cgi to get to a certain level. It's like they want the underpaid cgi artist to do something within six weeks that normally takes a year. The outcome can't be good if they rush it even if they are passioned about it.
Disney owns Pixar and George Lucas‘s special effects, animation company iLM… put a lot of money into it that’s why it looks so good n holds up so well. That, and it was about the time they started to do the point recognition stuff with the actors.
Davy Jones was just a heart broken man, and in his last moments he called to woman to whom he hid his heart from. If this isn't a poetically illustrated love story, I don't know what is...
Love story ? Just shows how cruel and treacherous love could be. Davy Jones was in love with a woman that played with his feelings.

The older we become the more we relate to villains
That rings true. I have to think about that one.
Sad but true

Many of us develop more introspection and empathy as we age, so we see ourselves in the tragic villain if we are honest with ourselves.
It’s true I also command a ghost ship

Bill Nighy is a great actor.
He always plays like that, so it is impossible not to believe him.
And even here, he is so heavily made up that he cannot be recognized, but nevertheless he managed to convey all the emotions of his character with only his eyes, his voise and gestures..
He is so underrated. Valkyrie is good as well if you ain't seen it
He has an issue with his hands which they incorporated brilliantly

@@jamesbaggett7223 Yes. When he was as human Davy Jones it looked as if he was so long in that form he forgot how to move his hand normally and instead moved it like his old crab arm. Most likely unintentional, but still amazing detail. Everything about Davy Jones is in some capacity an accident that created an amazing character.
I enjoy him in all his roles. It would be awesome to see him play a Viktor-only story in the Underworld franchise.
I had rather forgotten how uncommonly tragic a figure Davy Jones is for a Disney villain. This video is an excellent reminder
Yea like when i was younger i couldn’t appreciate how amazing he was written, but also how tragic his story was,so seeing this many years later it really pulls at your heartstrings as you realize what an amazing but also incredibly sad character he was

100 % ok
On Stranger Tides was good tho
@@lordofhostsappreciator3075 It was ok. Not as good as the first three, but it’s still a decent movie. 7/10
This is why Davy Jones is my favorite villain in any franchise, because he is so relatable. He fell in love, made a commitment to the woman he loved, and when they could be together he was betrayed. The pain and anguish made him carve out his own heart from his chest, and lock it away to forget the pain and torment, but it didn't work, he then lashed out at the one who loved him and hurt them, showing the world the monster he was, and slowly became more and more cruel because he felt no more love. Overtime the monster he was psychologically took form physically, and he became the monster we know him to be. But even after carving out his own heart, hurting the one he loved, and becoming a monster, he couldn't make the feelings go away, and he still loved the woman who hurt him. Davy Jones isn't a villain to be a villain, or to gain anything from it, he was just heartbroken and it consumed him, something everyone can relate too.
I know it´s kind of a stretch, but i see some resemblence of his story in the lore of Hollow Knight
When someone cries, it is not because they are weak. It is because they have been strong for too long.
“Love… a dreadful bond” the words of a man who was betrayed by the one he loved
"She betrayed me. Pretended to love me" yet another reminder about the pain that davy jones went through that i can relate to so well and even though he was betrayed by his one true love he still loved her to the bitter end
My heart hurts...I am living a parallel of Davy Jones' life...
Long distance love...
Plans to be together thwarted by circumstances...
Endless suffering hidden behind anger and cruelty...
My difference is she would have been there if we could afford it.
I get so choked up now when i rewatch bcuz I understand now...I understand completely.
The first 3 pirate movies were just beautifully well written! 💙
“Life is cruel. Why should the afterlife be any different?” chills.
The industry can’t produce this type of jewels anymore
as basic as saying “my heart will always belong to you” when Davy says it, i felt that
"No I heard it was the sea he fell in love with."
"Same story, different version. And all are true!"
In the end, before the fallen he said her name...one more time
One last time
The first 3 pirate movies had ATMOSPHERE above all else, they had their own unique dark, weird aesthetic. The flying dutchman exemplifies that more than anything else in how it combines the aesthetic of the era they takenplace in (Victorian I think, were pirates victorian era?) With this eldritch biological weird deep sea creature theme of rot decay but sea-themed rot and decay in particular. Every single design related to the dutchman, from the ship itself to the individual minor crew members feels like something out of a Soulsborne game. Aside from that the entire movies had this edgy dark 2000s fantasy movie vibe, even if they were pg and there was a seriousness to them they never felt like "kids films" the new movies on the other hand feel like "just another pirate adventure" with generic treasure mcguffins like "the fountain of life" "the triden of poseidon" I bet the next one they will find atlantis or something. While I have to admit that the design of the Ghost ship in the latest one (I dont remember what it was called) was pretty cool with the idea of both the ship and the men missing parts nad having the remaining parts in place despite nothing connecting them, it was nothing but design, the movie had once again a souless tone to it and felt more like one of the wannabee live action franchise launcher movies disney made around the early 2010s (Lone Ranger, John Carter etc)
pirates are early enlightenment. like 1700-1720 for classical caribbean pirates. Victorian era comes some 100 years later.
@@Draythur would that make them Georgian?
@@mrungamammoth-bunga125 it would make them mainly in the stuart era with a little bit of overlap to the georgian, if we have to define our eras by who ruled the UK.
John Carter is not Disney, even if they had their White Glove in the movie.
One of the best characters in disney history
Seriously the most menacing antagonist is cinema history. But really is a protagonist, kinda like darth vader. The boldest heroes make the scariest and cruelest villains. I never realized his resemblance to darth vader, but theyre the same in almost every right, they both seem to be in charge but were just manipulated by higher powers.
Kids love Heroes
Man love Villains
Legends love Davy Jones.
After all these things happen still Jones said: my hearth belongs to you... He is best villain ever ❣️
His character reflects so much similarities to what happens in real life. Love, betrayal, heartbreak and coldness but loyalty remains to the end
What a masterpiece of a movie, created for commercial purposes but made great by the actors involved.
I am glad you didn't use any other music instead of the original one. I think there is no other alternative to this masterpiece: the music is romantic, terrifying, dramatic, godlike (because of the organ), childish (because of the musical box sound, maybe the symbol of purity, pure love) - characterizes Davy Jones completely.
Cruel and cold like winds on the sea
Will you ever return to me ?
Hear my voice sing with the tide
My love will never die
Over waves and deep in the blue
I will give up my heart for you
Ten long years I'll wait to go by
My love will never die
Come my love be one with the sea
Rule with me for eternity
Drown all dreams so mercilessly
And leave their souls to me
Play the song you sang long ago
And wherever the storm may blow
You will find the key to my heart
We'll never be apart
Wild and strong you can't be contained
Never bounded nor ever chained
Wounds you caused will never mend
And you will never end
Cruel and cold like winds on the sea
Will you ever return to me ?
Hear my voice sing with the tide
Our love will never die

This is honestly the most heartbreaking villain backstory ever I've ever heard, and I've seen a bunch of anime. Davy Jones will always be my most favorite villain of all time. And not to mention that he was played by, in my opinion, the BEST villain actor ever Bill Nighy. This I feel was his best role ever and also my personal favorite.
