I do like Irma, such a lovely character. She seemed to always have a glint in her eye and a sunny disposition.
Elsie was so pretty, & more 'girlish' here. Gosh I do miss her, what a lovely actress she was.
@@richardloring7545 Is 'gosh' an unfamiliar word to you?
@@richardloring7545 Wow, so angry! Embarrassing and inappropriate. Go sort your life out Dick.
@@glamdolly30 oh no you are American arnt you.? Talk bout embarrassing when coming from a fatty loud mouthed bullying country.....please tell me you are.....not English ... please not from here.....Go n eat 20 burgers n 2 litres of soda....ha ha ha
@@richardloring7545 Gosh, what a sad, inadequate, barely literate, terminally tedious excuse for a man you are. No wonder you're so angry!
I realise getting female attention you haven't had to pay for is a huge thrill for you, but sadly you're far too dull to humour a moment longer. Go fetch a magnifying mirror and some tweezers, and tug your tiny, unwashed todger.
Thankfully most Englishmen aren't intimidated by smart women. I can practically smell your fear (and your armpits). YUK! You are dismissed.
@@glamdolly30 Brilliant slag off back... Congrats....pulling my 12 incher now.....mrs left me.....sad....feel sorry for me do ya.....
The Phantom Foghorn...Classic Irma, they did give her some great lines, love it!
Fantastic! Episodes Ive never seen before!!! Thanks for helping me get through self isolation!
Minnie was actually pretty shrewd. Play dumb in public and get what you want.
Spot on !
A brilliantly drawn character.
Margot Bryant who played Minnie was notorious for her outspokenness and language, I think some of her did leak into her character every now and then.
This was on when I was born. Its interesting watching the late sixties/early seventies
Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner sitting at the table together having a cup of tea together. Ee by eck.
They were only sworn enemies up until about 1965. They’d mellowed out by this point.
By the thump! Tha's right. Next thing you know, Annie Walker'll be taking on that brassy blonde from the factory as a bar maid.
Brilliant brilliant episode - written by Geoffrey Lancashire, who wrote The Lovers at about the same time, and was Sarah's father.
I thought The Lovers was Jack Rosenthal?
@@darganx Hi - Jack wrote the first Lovers TV series, Geoffrey Lancashire wrote the second.
Wonderful scene between Albert Handel and Minnie - brilliant.
The gentlemen who played Handel, was in Hi de hi..as a Camper! Lovely actor..
He was in "Village Hall" and "Sam and the River", two series I loved when I was a kid.
Dunno why but when Minnie said viola I just burst out laughing!
Great episode, thank you. Not long until the b&w episodes returned due to the strike in November 1970.
Minnie “Oo, is there any of that stuff left over from Mrs O...from yer’ mum’s sale?”
Irma “Well, I have got a load of murderous thoughts...”
😂😂😂
Can't say it enough. WELCOME BACK . 😄
Oh i coudnt be doing with an objector
That aside i love getting a glims of Minnie Cauldwells old nic-nacs in her back room - one can only imagine what amazing bits and pieces were in her front room where the best was always kept back then
Fair play to all objectors......
We all wanted the Benson and Hedges back then to be like Elsie - i was only ten
14:49 I just LOVE that photo of the dog, it's a perfect pose as he looks back at the camera from the alley. I wish I could get a copy - I'd have it framed for my wall, it's beautiful.
That picture seemed to be used forever. When the titles were redone later there were letters of complaint sent in.
Lol Albert all jealous over Handel.
I seem to remember Minnie Calwells mother lived with her in the sixties - dont think we ever saw her (the mind boggles) - i wonder when she died and if there was ever an episode about it - i have never seen one and was too young to remember the sixties episodes
Minnie's mother was Amy Carlton. She was never shown and died in 1962 at the age of 94.
Elsie Tanner, looks like my dear Mum, the hairstyle..mum had her hair styled like Elsie twice a week..i sat waiting for her...the hair laquer!...
I remember them old sweepers.
Yes Dan, they were called Ewbank, I used to have one! Now I have a Dyson. How times have changed.
@@normasouthwood3182 yeah technology and we got a Dyson
You can still buy them.
@@gilgameshofuruk4060 wow
My favourite Rovers decor. Loved that colour.
A bit less garish from when we first saw it in colour.😮
That shade was used a lot in the early days of colour TV. Some colours wouldn't register properly so set designers stuck to what they knew would work. It's a favourite of mine too.
Why is Billy Walker reading the Northern Echo that’s a Darlington local paper not Manchester?
Elsie 😍
Funny he was reading the Northern Echo it's a Darlington based paper and only really covers Co Durham, the North Riding of Yorkshire and Northumberland nowhere near Manchester!
People used to order newspapers from their own areas to keep up with where they used to live. I had a job in a papershop when I was a teenager. I can't remember the name of the newspaper one woman used to have, but it was from out if the area and always a day late. She didn't mind that though.
I'd forgotten all about that.
Ken Farrington (Billy Walker) wrote in his excellent autobiography that Margot Bryant (Minnie) couldn't stand Harry Markham (Handel) - she didn't rate his acting.
Many who worked with her have written that Margot was a heller - the exact opposite to Minnie! She treated almost everyone with contempt (Eileen Darbyshire - Emily - being a rare exception). She and Violet Carson didn't get on at all, Margot's vicious tongue made nearly everyone avoid her.
The Handel actor, BTW, was highly regarded enough to be chosen by Alan Bennett to act in his TV work.
Love you coronation street ❤ your 1 fan micheál
0:58 "Well I bet Andrew's noshed a few clam chowders in his time!" 😳 I say lol
I love you coronation street ♥ your 1 fan micheál
Clam has another meaning nowadays. Clam juice.
It did then 😉
Omar Sharif - called Arab, LOL! Billy Walker had a way with words!
I am a New Englander. Clam Chowder was born here .
Wow posh nosh to us Glaswegians - i have tried it - its very nice
But we added potato.
I had it in Alabama. Loved it but never had it since.
Lovely Kenneth Farrington. He is 84 now.
Any chance he could return to the show? Ken's still stinking the place out, so why not?
Why has Albert Tatlock got dye in his hair?
Elsie’s false teeth didn’t really fit.
don't you think Rita's ab gorgeous?
No
Not as gorgeous as Elsie!
Joseph and today TV 😀
