Can we just take a moment to appreciate Seth. Ever since I got back into magic over a decade ago, you've been providing amazing content that also puts me in a great mood...and you're still running like a sewing machine! You're the man Seth, probably better known as SaffronOlive :)
I stopped playing magic for like 5 years and still watched every video Seth put up. I’m back to playing again I couldn’t take it anymore
Not gunna lie, and it's a terrible reason but, tbh Seth's voice annoyed the hell outta me when I first started watching him. But his amazing content, strategy and insight have had me coming back for more ever since. I'm glad I didn't shoot myself in the foot.
My favorite combo? Tribute to The World Tree and Awaken the Woods. All of your 1/1s are 3/3s now.
Awaken the Woods into Nissa's ultimate. Every Awaken token counts as a forest
My favorite wombo with tribute of the world tree is awaken the woods. It's fun making a big board of 3/3 land dryads after a board wipe my opponent did. Its even better if you have two tributes on the board. You get 3/3s and get to draw per dryad
As someone who only plays Standard on Arena, I'd love it if more of the budget magic decks were also Arena budget, without needing 30+ rares. Similar to the zero-rare burn deck from last year.
You answered your own question as to why tbh. What low rare count decks are actually semi-competitive? Mono-red aggro, mono blue "oops all counters", and Blue red Prowess (which is basically just a combination of the previous two decks) if he built with "arena budget" in mind, basically every deck would some variant of those.
@HomeCookinMTG one possibility would be to not count "staples" in the rare count. The draw two deck he built awhile ago, for example, had quite a few rares. But since I already had dual lands, Sheoldred, removal, Fairy Mastermind, Ledger Shredder, etc., I really only needed to spend a couple of rare wildcards on a second and third Gixian Puppeteer
I still remember Magic Duels having 4-3-2-1 limits on commons, uncommons, rares, and mythics.
Yeah, I would like that too. I try to keep decks budget friendly Arena is possible but there just aren't that many low rare count decks that are somewhat competitive. One of the big problems is the lands, to play two or three colors it's usually at least 8 (and sometimes way more) rares just for the mana to work, which mostly limits the decks to being mono-colored, which means we run out of options pretty quickly. There will be more Arena-focused budget decks in the future, I just don't think it's possible to build one (at least an interesting and somewhat competitive one) each week.
@@derekcline950 Exactly. I'm not saying zero rares everytime, but like 10 rares or so seems like a good baseline. Kinda like the $100 limit.
Invoke Justice is still pretty nice imo, don't know if it's beaten by the green one
@33:22 Seth is so used to saying invoke despair he forgets he is playing invoke the ancients
Never change your love of risky keeps Seth, it always makes for great content 😂
Hey Seth love all your videos and this was excellent as always! I was wondering if you could make your cam smaller or move it to the left when you're playing arena so we can read the cards the opponents play? I don't play a lot of arena so I don't know all the cards.
You only Stone Brained two of their three Atraxas there, Seth! 34:27
They should print a green creature that can’t be exiled.
Then Blue will figure out a way to cheat it onto the field and then it'll be unbeatable and get banned because green was getting too powerful.
I've been wishing for the "Realmbound" keyword ever since the day Farewell dropped
42:52 I think this is accurate to the story on how atraxa dies. Huge things just fall on her and she loses
Love Mono Green, nice to see it being playable again.
This deck looks like my Mono Green +1 commander deck, with Kurbis as the leader of the bunch 💜✨
i love this list. Had a similar idea. Jewel Thief is a fantadtic card. Might even try a red splash for Halana so it can be useful to trample over tokens to kill emperors and Lillis.
A mono G enchantment wolf deck is also surprisingly durable and very aggressive!
I love how the budget of this deck went up by a dollar by the end of the intro sequence. :D
Phrases i never thought I'd here: "Green is Bad". I guess I've seen too much explorer/pioneer!
In the banner during the full deck display you should display wildcard cost next to Dollars and Tix. I'm guessing Tix are for MTGO?
Yeah, tix are on MTGO. You can always find the full breakdown (and also a discussion about how to make the deck more Arena-budget friendly) in the article: www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-91-mono-green-standard
Mono Green where I can constantly make Tenacious D references? Yes, Please!
*Thanks for the Content!*
Seth, if mono green is so bad how do you explain all those Rakdos decks I beat using Nissa and land ramp creatures?
Bushwhack is such a good card. I think it should see more play in Commander. If you’re out of lands in hand to hit your drop, this does the same thing for you as a Nature’s Lore would, and then oh yeah it can also just fight things. Amazing modality.
Nature's Lore is so much better since it gets you any forest card and puts it into play untapped. Bushwhack only gets you a basic to hand so I wouldnt say bushwhack is that good even with the fight added on
@@Moclord imagine it’s turn 3 or 4 and you dont have any lands in hand to hit your land drop for the turn. To make sure you get a land that turn, you could play Nature’s Lore and spend 2 mana and end up with a Forest on the battlefield untapped. Or you could only spend one mana on Bushwhack to get a basic land to hand and then play it on the battlefield untapped as your land for turn. The end result is the same except with Nature’s Lore you spent one extra mana, possibly limiting your ability to play something else that turn. And then Bushwhack has the extra fight modality that Nature’s Lore doesn’t.
That’s not to say Nature’s Lore is worse. They’re very different cards. But my main point is that “tutor a basic land to hand” effects are a lot better than Commander players tend to think, compared to straight up land ramp cards like Nature’s Lore or Rampant Growth. Especially for people who don’t run enough lands 😂
I've been trying to hype on green for a long time! Invoke the Ancients I swear was decent even against Despair because it gave you two bodies, so you weren't entirely cleared out (I did have to double check the frogs aren't enchantments)
Imagine how good Conduit of Worlds would be in this deck
Basically all the decks you'd want Conduit against also incidentally run graveyard hate (trespasser, Farewell) or exile removal (laydown arms, sunfall).
Conduit is also surprisingly often a pretty bad nonbo with Scrapgorger. In many matchups you don't have a lot of GY to exile with it and you don't want to resort to hitting your own returnables.
I like adding Rex as an additional wincon in these decks, just because of the uncounterability. It might be personal preferense because half my matches are usually against blue counterspell decks.
Seth-running with the idea that mono green might be back in standard, would you upgrade this deck at all to be non-budget? Like, what would the “tier” mono green deck look like?
Having a lot of fun with a similar version of this, but running some bigger stompy creatures like silverback elder and titan of industry. Also running a 1 of invasion of ikoria which performs well every time i cast it. I think it's an under rated battle card.
Lol Seth only exiling two Atraxa's, not bringing in Thrun against control/counters and keeping two one landers.....yet stumbling into a winning record is always hilarious to me. Never change Seth.
43:06 This is a good example for the opponent to think how do I lose this game.
I've been playing a similar list for the last few weeks, instead of ramping into high cmc stuff with 2 mana dorks, its a more aggro list to get in under the atraxa ramp decks. backbone is still tribute and doomskar though.
Glad to see some spotlight on mono green. Nissa is so busted as a createrhoof.
Crim's Void Rend control deck stomps all over this tho 😂
I want to point out that the scrapgorgers don’t have to exile something to get oil counters on them it just cares if they get tapped. I think the card is underrated tbh you only need to tap them twice before you can attack with a 3/3 and they ramp and graveyard hate. Seems good to me
The oil counter is tied to the triggered ability resolving, which needs a target to exile. You can't get the oil counter if the trigger doesn't resolve, and the trigger can't resolve without a card in the graveyard.
Wow, tribute to the world tree is really good. It looks exactly like something I'd like to play with.
The NEw Nissa PW is so super powerful. It's madness good
The Explorer version can go off on turn 3 if it's built as a Neoform deck. T1 dork, T2 Neoform on your tapped dork, holding up 1-mana protection isn't difficult. I cut the red lands from the Historic Neoform/Dualcaster Mage deck in the waning days of the combo's viability, and it was no problem to go down to 15 simic lands, 4 Llanowar Elves, and 4 Gilded Goose, so I think the consistency wouldn't be hurt too bad.
I wonder if the slight increase of cost for topiary stomper in place of jewel thief wouldn't have been better.
not sure why you dont bring thrun in more games. considering he would be good in 2 of these matches you played, even more so the final match you played
Tyvar's Stand Gives hexproof so it works against exile effects
Not exile wipes, though, which have been pretty liberally pushed for a while now.
could we please get more budget magic videos/decks that are budget for arena instead of paper/mtgo? I know its a hard ask but figured I'd put it out there
Is this new Crim's Nightmare? XD
The top deck jace into exactly mill the deck was so brutal 🤣
Seth and one land one keeps, name a more iconic duo
3:25 I love huge "horrors" 😏
I think you drastically underutilized Thrun, there were at least 2 matchups the OP had counters and you didn’t board in your uncounterable (and to an extent) hexproof threat, however you still won so many matches! Great deck and awesome video
Remember kids, Seth built hammer time.
Budget decks can be insane
Good God, Leyline Binding is so damn strong!
I feel like a version with vorinclex might be good as vorinclex is just kinda good
Debt to the Kami is a 3 drop black card that can exile a creature or enchantment, so black still has a way to mess with enchantments
I very much misheard "it makes huge horrors" :D
Did you say "has not rotated yet" when playing Polukranos, a card that was released less than 2 months ago?
Yeah, it's an old meme about the original Polukranos (someone infamously said that Siege Rhino might be good after Polukranos rotates).
@@MTGGoldfishgod what a card that polukranos was. Loved it and still run him in emergent ulti sometimes:)
@@MTGGoldfish og Polukranos is my favorite card but I hadn't heard of this
I still feel like green is in a pretty sore spot. In the video it seemed like a fair few of the games sort of broke in your favor and the matchups were favorable. But maybe I am a bit delusional about this all. I took a bit of a break from standard so haven't tested it a ton recently.
Agreed. For the last three or so set releases (discounting MOM, as people didn't bite anymore), green was hyped to finally be the meta destroyer with endless match curated videos of it stomping, but every time it goes back to what it was after the dust settles. The good part about this is that now it's much less guilty feeling to play black and I love it.
Wait, do you get new cards just for playing? For free?
In Arena, yes. It's slow but you can get cards for free, including ones which are expensive in real life.
I think you could have been more liberal with the discount Nissa. The tokens are a less desirable target for creature removal, so there is a good chance they would have stuck around, or the opponent would have wasted their removal on the tokens, letting you play your other threats onto a less risky board.
Seth's key strat: fight people who can't find lands.
I love you Seth and I will forgive all the 1 Land, 1 Keep moment, no matter what happens! Just remember to exile ALL the copies of Atraxa when Stone Braining XD I always pretend I'm playing Arena when playing paper, going "I'll destroy that creature and I'm glad I chose that one instead of misclicking and choosing the wrong one!"
Seeing Set getting compleated aka poisoned and milled was juicy Lucy. 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Two years ago if you would have said "oh you can't play enchantments in standard because of the absurd black enchantment removal" nobody would have believed you
Try Mono Green Cradle

Bloated Contaminator is under $2, is there a reason we're not playing it?
Screaming because tyvars stand give hexproof which prevents targeting so no exile
Greeeeen \o/
Could you please move yourself to the left of the screen. I can't read the cards when they are cast. I really like your videos, keep up the good work!
He left an atraxa in
We need 4 mana 5/4 green trample, reach, vigilance that can be cast from exile.
Too bad that power creep has already given us a 6/6 for 6 with trample, otherwise that might be limited playable :(
Poison decks need to start bringing Saryth tech to fight the big baddies. Deathtouch or Poison, your choice!
When was the last time green was competitive in the standard meta?
Green invoke is definitely the best invoke right now. sheodred still makes it iffy to play.
Still blows my mind that 91 dollars is budget magic.
If this wasn't budget with voriclex and and bosiju it would be better
Seth talking about invoke despair like he pissed in his cereal and slept with his girlfriend 😂
I came here to weep and gnash teeth, as requested.
Needs elvish Mystic 😅
Against Atraxa there is always Atraxas fall 🙂
The camera was so big I couldn't read the cards...
The problem with playing green the last year is that nobody thinks to play cards that are actually good versus removal in their green decks in the early curve.
The last time it was good was because it had a two drop (ranger class) a three drop (Old-growth troll) and a four drop (esika's chariot) that were good versus removal while also being efficiently statted. Without these types of cards, or alternatively good fast mana like Llanowar Elves, green stompy sucks.
Therefore, playing Jewel Thief, and Invoke the Ancients is a good decision. But, the single best green card in standard is Jugan Defends the Temple, and it being ommitted is crazy. It's literally on the same level as Fable (and plays very similarly) for any deck that meets these (easy) requirements:
1) Play mostly creatures
2) Play a mix of cheap creatures (which are made much better by the backside) and expensive creatures (to ramp into)
3) Have a bare minimum of synergy with counters/modified
Budget only on paper....this world....
Yep. Everyone down here is correct;
This is a paper-only Budget build.
the placement of the camera is terrible. It always block the text field of the played cards- maybe you could move it to the left when doing arena videos.
Seth, one note for content quality. I understand the desire to use Arena for formats it can support. But, even in ranked matches, the percentage of opponents that inexplicably scoop is so much higher than mtgo. Opponents just quit for no reason, and the content really suffers. We don’t even get to see the deck perform against those matchups.
It’s an argument to use mtgo for all content. Just saying.
Mono green is always good 👍 😅
Ah, downside of being in Mythic. Tryhards/Spikes only play the best 2-3 decks; not much variety up there. I've seen tons of mono-G & other jank brews here in Bronze/Silver.
32 Rare Seth why
I really hate how MTGA is set up when it comes to getting cards. I would love to play this deck but can’t spend $300+ on packs to get rare wildcards
Short answer? No.
Longer one? No, because Atraxa and all of the pushed exile wipes exist and any one of them often immediately invalidate green on cast. Also, if green were ever present in the meta, obliterator would come back and immediately invalidate green upon resolve (though now with some other mono-ish black incentives gone, it's less attractive). This is just another incarnation of pre-m15 "green big->gets invalidated->does nothing" in effect. A bigger vanilla beater off of a walker or another reach keyword on a french vanilla won't bring green back. Only better t1 setup and aggressively costed proactive board protection will bring green to any real playability in the current environment.
Oh, yeah, how could I forget: Nahiri's Warcrafting also makes the more aggressive red match ups much weaker than it pretty traditionally has been. Though I still love that card.
Is mono green good again when wasn’t it green has over stated creatures removel in standard is kinda bad the best removel is enchantment removel and green is kinda good at destroying enchantments that’s why games in standard take 20-25 mins if you aren’t playing agro or against agro. Every deck in standard is basically running 4-5 boredwipes because the removel is that bad so decks are boredwipe tribal
Not really budget with 4 mythics and 32 rares
For paper ($99) and MTGO ($27) it is. This is why i play MTGO and Arena lol.
You're not completely safe playing enchantments against mono black. They still have Debt to the Kami, and it's worth the sideboard slot, imo, without Invoke to 3 for 1
Atraxa is such a stupid card. I'd take a ban on it any day.
The deck looks sweet though! Could be sweet to have the stat doubler enchantment and creature in the deck or Sideboard to get that over the overtop effect.
20:40
No. wtf. Invoke killing Nissa and the token is a 5 mana 1-for-1 that replaces itself. You sac'd a TOKEN. "Rekt"; I thought you'd know the game by now.
So it took me a while to have this epiphany but I'm finally starting to understand why current day magic just sucks to play. As someone who has been playing the game for a few decades current magic is just control decks. The paradigm shift in what it was like to play magic, even say ten years ago was wildly different. There were still removal spells and counters and broken creatures but everything is so abundant and efficient now that magic has gone from two people developing their deck and sometimes interacting with what there opponent to something akin to OCD cleaning where you cannot allow your opponent to have anything on the board or resolve spells. It went from occasionally removing or counter a creature that posed the biggest threat to every turn removing everything you put into play. Imagine if you had to cast a murder to single target kill any 1 of your opponents creatures. That's 3 mana so it's not very quick or efficient and hard to string together multiples in a single turn early on. The current ceiling in standard is 2 mana for most things that remove or counter and you can do it a turn earlier and twice on turn 4 onward rather than having to wait till turn 6. In my opinion this obsessive need to constantly interact and control everything your opponent done has pretty much destroyed all fun from the game. Everything is now control. A game of magic is no longer a game you can actually play, only if your opponent allows you to play the game.
If the direction of magic is one mana or free efficient removals and counters then Shroud, Hexproof, Indestructible, and uncounterable need to start showing up on nearly every creature. Or better yet get rid of permanents all together outside of lands. Just make spells since that is all people use to remove their opponents deck anyways.
Good deck for plat 4 but good luck trying to get higher. Don't get confused that he gets to Mythic with the deck. he gets there with BROKEN decks first then plays this throw away for fun
No one plays standard in paper, this ain't budget in Arena....
Yeah, sadly this deck isn't all that cheap on Arena. The economy on Arena is rough for budget decks since all the janky unplayed rares and mythics cost the same as the good ones. We talk about how to make the deck cheaper in the article if you are interesting. www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-91-mono-green-standard
Where good with 1 lane famous last words
After war of the spark/eldraine when we had to endure Nissa, Edgewall Innkeeper and simic flash, green can be the worst color in mtg until the world ends and it still won't be enough
Pretty much every popular thing related to adventures was just about physically painful in Eldraine.

Again, deck looks great, but just so hard to feel like you arent just picking all the best matches and showing a better showing for this deck.
If you watched to the end he literally shows the deck went 8-1, with the only loss being the one shown on screen
I try to show the overall record at the end from untapped.gg. You find it in the wrap up here czcams.com/video/LnfXHiZUGfY/video.html
While the deck was super good, unfortunately it isn't super cheap on Arena due to the whacky economy. Check out the article for a more Arena friendly budget list! www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-91-mono-green-standard
You really shouldn't do decks like this that are very much not budget on arena, since arena is where most people play
