- Take a look back at the first Welcome to Country ceremony at the Embassy of France to Australia performed by Indigenous artist and Ngambri-Ngunnawal custodian Paul Girrawah House.
NITV filmed on May 2nd the ceremony that also included the unveiling of a traditional tree carving titled ‘Canberra Pathways' (Ngambri-Kamberri Murruway). Paul House explained that his artwork acknowledges and honours the ancient pathways created on Country (ngurambang) by his Old People (gudyiin mayiny).
Mr. Pierre-André Imbert, the Ambassador of France to Australia, celebrated the adoption of this century-old custom as a “symbol of mutual respect, and of our commitment to create a vibrant and profound relationship between France and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people”.
