I mean, I waited ten years for the return of fantasy. Kept making armies, and finally got around to painting lots of the stuff i hadnt gotten around to. The hype will never die
Exactly. They tried their best to kill wfb and the community still kept it going. Now it's properly back the hype is just going to build and build.
Hasn't really been the same here in Ireland so it's cool to see it back properly!
@MediocreHobbies to be fair, I live on the prairies of western Canada, and frankly there's nobody around who plays miniature games. But I'm getting my kids into it now, so... you know... it's aaaaall coming together!

I've already said on another video that the thing that will hurt Old World the most is its lack of availability, between lack of factions, lack of stock, and 75% of it being online/made to order only.
GW need to be releasing the initial factions every other month, so people can get stuck in, if people are waiting 6 months for each faction, the hype will die.
Agreed, it cannot be drip fed like Necromunda when it was re-released back in 2018(?), or it will suffer long term. Really sucked to wait for the Orlocks and Delaque gangs I was interested in for so long.
True. Without new stuff, there is no reason to play Old World instead of any arbitrarily chosen edition of Warhammer Fantasy.
Ask yourself this: does GW main studio WANT the Old World to be successful?
Old World isn't a main studio game, they're always going to prioritise the main sellers like 40k first
Imagine if they re-released the £50 batallion sets, the orc one for example had a warboss on boar, a boar chariot, 18 orc boyz with 2 hand weapons, 17 arrer boyz, and 8 wolf riders.
Such good value and gorgeous sculpts.

If I remember well from the 6th Edition Box, ork Boys came in an double sprue with 4 Archer and 4 boys + one command sprue with 3 Torso 3 standing legs and 1 riding legs. I Never had an sprue from the non monopose Warriors but I suppose as the Empire, they shared the command sprue, so 7x4warriors per sprue + command sprue = 31 Warriors with Command musician and banner

Got the tomb kings set, and it has been so nostalgic building and painting these. I actually hated building the dragon and tomb King, but the skeletons and cavalry have been so enjoyable. I have been in such a hobby slump, but TOW made me want to finish my legions astartes before I received the tomb kings. Now I have all of my LA painted, and have half my TOW painted, it's only February 5th!

It's something we discussed today at Vapnartak in York.
There's no real difference between 40k and napoleonics You've a strict set of heroes and regiments with set colour schemes. With no official deviation.
It's Ironic that a company that has planned this release over years with 80-90% of all the models already sculpted and moulded before the pen hits paper. Didn't have the foresight to be casting as they're writing.

3:08 The Old World definitely didn't increase base size to accommodate AoS models just to have them scrapped at the last minute due to internal political politics... Crazy...
After basing an army on the new base sizes, I actually like it.. everything's not an elbow to elbow square dance and it looks better.. I still play Oldhammer but it's gonna have to accommodate the new base sizes, particularly because I'm 3d printing most of it and they are 30-32mm and I don't want to play with scales because I'm too lazy to resupport everything 😂

To be honest at the end one of the easiest ways at the moment to get TOW models is to buy the Gloomspite issues of thr Stormbringer partwork and use them as Night Goblins.

I hope so. It’s been really cool to see people bringing out their beautiful old armies and also working on new ones. I hope GW keeps up the releases although I worry they’re going to fumble the bag somehow.
Even if they don’t support it, I think the game will still be popular enough to have a following 😊
Either way, I think we’re about to enter a golden age for warhammer - between 40k, TOW, and AOS when 4th edition drops this year.

Personally, I wasnt my army to look like i just took it out of mothballs from the 90's, those old metal miniatures have so much nostalgia for me, but i would never begrudge someone for using more modern models and square basing them or using base adapters, I have my fun, you have your fun and we all have fun together.
And as far as the points go, thats how i remember it, always ended up fitting in more than i thought i could, and to GWs genius, i would end up buying more medels because i needed to fill out some extra points.

It feels like ToW is a cautious approach to discover if the SM noise calling for WH = sales. So a low investment, using existing IM tools and producing metal to order (addressing the cost of holding stock). This is why Rock Lobba & Spear chukka are still metal so no investment in new tooling. So the ROI will automatically be good and competitive with other ranges. Then if the ROI is good, investment can occur. I think the real test will be towards the final release of the 9 factions... I suspect there is an opportunity that Empire may see the inclusion of Kislev. If the ROI continues to be good maybe a new full army of Cathay or a reimagined eastern Skaven army might appear in 2025/26...
Always better to test the waters and be pleasantly surprised, than put out too much and be disappointed!
I 100% agree we will be getting new factions done the line. They have shown off some of the concepts when they started taking about old world.
Turns out people like warhammer fantasy , people just didn’t like the cost of things back then, that turned many people away. The game itself people loved , from my experience.

Warhammer fantasy setting is great. Nothing like it. There are so many resources and information for a new hobbyist looking to get into it now. Back in the day before affordable high speed internet you were going in blind, and it was incredibly daunting with only the odd painting tips In White Dwarf to go off.
Seeing some concerns from the gameplay side with Line hammer and Dragon hammer but shouldn't be a concern for casual players.

I wished that enfranchised Games Workshop shops had priority to buy from GW. I talked to the owner of one local game store near me and according to him, GW leaves them in total darkness, they have no information whatsoever more than us, and they have to buy from the same crappy web site than all of us have to. They cannot get any stock to sell. I don't understand how Warhammer LGS can survive in these conditions.
That’s not how it works at all. I feel your friend is talking nonsense. Try do get info about a week early and they do not order from the same website.

Standard bearers must go in the center of all units now (Pg. 198 of the BTB).
I think the orcs are 4 on a sprue, but then there's an extra command sprue that came with the regular orcs regiment and with the arrow boyz and two handed weapon boyz in the 6th ed starter.
I'm guessing it'll be 7 sprues of 4 orcs and the command sprue in the new army box.

I think it all comes down to support.
They can't just rely on old models for long. People want new models to buy and they need to sell new models to generate new revenue.

It looks to me like they've released Old World like and edition of Warhammer Total War so I'm expecting some DLCs. What you say about releasing models for AOS first makes sense as well.

You said the 31 boys are including command. So I would assume 7x the 4 and 1x the 3 commands? Would add up to 31 but still be weird 😅

We hype needs to continue for long enough for people to get armies on the table. Maybe TOs should focus on lower point games for a while.
For me I am just starting lizardmen. It is a pretty easy army to get into, 2 (old) start collecting boxes, a slaan and temple guard is over 2k, just over 50 models but is still going to be a couple of months until I have 2kready to go.
Yeah any tournaments organised so far has been 1500 points or under and they won't be for a few months. People won't be ready for a bit!
Already ordering 3D prints of the Dwarf army i want. because i can't be bothered to wait/fight scalpers for GW's limited stock crap they are pulling. I Can't even get my hands on the main rule book or either army book in Canada atm. I will finish my WoC army since i dont need anything new, just movement trays, also printed. the Dwarves will be printed from Highland Miniatures, done in 3-4 weeks total, including moveent trays, i'll have those before then even restock the rulebooks for god sakes.

I always wanted to play the old Warhammer. And watching people in the OldHammer movement kept me thinking about collecting again. And I'd love to get in on the the Old World. But I doubt I can afford an army much less the 3-5 I'd like to collect and build. I'll probably stick to Mordheim. But I'll keep watching Old World content.

I've been a on a quest to build a starting warband for each of the 8 factions from the original rules. As well as building a modular board set to play it with. The figures are a mix of old stock I have, bits from the old stock, miniatures from various lines, and 3D printing. I had bought two copies of the game when it came out. But I've lost a lot of the plastics I had in moving several times since then.

I love Warhammer, especially the old sculpts, but I always hated the "old word lore", square bases and rank-and-file games. Eight years ago, Age of Sigmar provided an amazing chance to use great models on the best round bases, but now GW is bloody taking that back.
It’s not replacing Age of Sigmar, you can keep playing the games you enjoy

Don't worry. There will be neither Kislev nor Cathay in the foreseeable future, GW has officially noticed this.
Instead of 3dprinting Chaos Dwarfs you could just get Mantic's Abyssal Dwarfs.

Really hope they do a made to order of chaos dwarfs, even if it’s just for the centrepiece models.
They are pretty much confirmed for AOS, I don't think they would risk ruining that release unless its a smart ploy to sell us more square bases.

I find the whole production issue very odd, which leads me to the belief that GW intentionally chokes supply to hype demand, which promotes fomo and scalping. It’s really sad.

It also depends on how much they are willing to invest...
It's never going to have the same level of success with outdated models than with renewed ones... AoS is a thing only by how hard they pushed it with constantly pumping out new stuff. As soon as they keep it under a low profile for a couple years the game dies and they know it... specially if there's an alternative.
Imagine if we got a couple of the armies fully renewed every year, plus other new stuff... in my opinion it has a lot more growth potential than AoS. Much better and appealing setting and a lot of nostalgia to support it.
Yeah, AOS got 3 armies’ worth of range refreshes last year alone. It’d be nice to see that kind of output for TOW but I’m worried that because it’s being made by the specialist team, it’ll be neglected
@@donotinteract7851 Agree... my point is that it's a worse business decision to invest in AoS rather than classic fantasy/TOW... most people I know either played AoS because there is nothing else or buy their models for warhammer fantasy

Even HH is basically abandon-ware at this point.
GW only care about getting all the money, not some of the money.

Will the hype last? Does it matter, I hope it does at least from the point of sale to draw new players into the game, but for Oldhammer people it doesn't at all. Firstly, 3d printing isn't the future, it currently my here and now so why would I throw money at 25 year old plastic sculpts or gasp old metal ones at an absurd price point when I have 2 good quality 6k and 12k 3d printers that can print stls that look so much better than the ancient GW ones and regardless of what GW does at a literal fraction of the price.. I can print a whole 3000+ point army in 2-3 days for well under $100. GW is stuck in the past. They better change their business plan because the one they have is stuck in the year 2000 which doesn't portend good things for its future.
They're a multimillion pound company, they're doing grand :D
