Yea, I know. It can seem weird at first, but mnemonics really do work. Plenty of solid research behind all this. Glad you found this helpful!

I had a question on my MCAT about Erikson's stages of development. Thank goodness for your video!

This is fantastic. After facing the facts that my own mnemonics weren't working (I'm about to graduate with my BA and psyc and I STILL couldn't remember them), I did a quick google search and stumbled onto this! This is great! The full version on psycfiles had me laughing at the sticks (intimacy v. isolation) and the disPEAR (integrity v. despair). LOL, thanks Michael! I'll never have trouble with this again.

First time I saw this I thought it was crazy and now I know all 8 stages off by heart just by watching this video. I love it and it makes total sense as a method.

That’s fantastic! So good to hear that mnemonics have been helpful to you. And if you've used them on the cranial nerves, well, that's a mnemonic you'll want to share with your classmates. Thanks for the note.

I actually use this technique all the time now. I just started nursing school and it has really helped. I'm the top student in my class so far. The 12 cranial nerves have nothing on me lol.

Excellent video- I always forget the stages shortly after having to tak exams, but i'm motivated now to take some time and encode them permanently. Oh, and if you ever get inspired to create a memory device for parts of the brain and their functions, i'll have another 5 star rating all ready to give you;)

I have a prof right now - different class - who expects exact, word for word memorization of terms, all points and definitions, no emphasis on conceptual understanding at all. It has ruined the class for me. I also have to be able to write an essay exam and explain the first 4 stages of Erikson's theory for a different class, so while I agree with you, this video is VERY helpful & extra info can be added to the mnemonics such as the important events & outcome of each stage.

Good Stuff!!! I went to iTunes and watched the rests. Got some tests coming up over the next 4 weeks that will use this theory. While I know what happens a struggle I have had is remembering and not mixing the titles of the stages. Thanks for doing this for us :-)

@rodolfo1114 I like your video. You can still study what happens during each stage as well as use a mnemonic device at the same time. By faster learning of names, it allows more time for in-depth study. Maybe now students will spend the time learning what's in the names instead of JUST the names and where they are located in the order.

I know! Unfortunately, mnemonics seem like "party tricks" or something. Mnemonics have been heavily researched and supported by the findings. The simple idea is that we can more easily remember concrete things than abstract things.
