Although both WCOP AM and FM were NBC Radio affiliates, and simulcast local and network newscasts, I believe WCOP-FM was carrying NBC's weekend "Monitor" service and not WCOP-AM. I also seem to recall that WCOP-AM had become country-music by this time. WCRB is no longer on AM; WCRB-FM was converted a few years back to a noncommercial station (currently owned by public broadcaster WGBH).
The AM has had more sets of calls than any other Boston area radio station. WCOP, WACQ, WHUE, WSNY, WMEX just to name the ones I can remember. The FM was WHUE, then WTKK, later WKKT, and now WZLX. I remember they were going to use the slug line Boston Radio KAT as WKKT and was going after WBCN. They ran a "declaw the cat" campaign and within weeks WKKT dropped the line and changed calls. BTW this aircheck says Monitor Radio on both WCOP AM & FM.
Meanwhile, WHAV-FM was airing "The New Wave Is Rolling In", 92.5 FM, Haverhill, By 1971, it covered all of New England with Gene Weed's 88kw ERP new FM station. It was a first Super Station of New England. Never duplicated. Featured, "Good Morning Vietnam" announcer Prescott Jackson, who is still alive in Naples, FL See "FOLKLORES".
WCOP FM had oldies in 1974. It had a lot of lostt 1950s songs.
