Bless you and everyone you hug.
The US shipment was suspended so I bought mine from Amazon Japan. www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B07QD9GQ9J/ref=sr_1_5?__mk_ja_JP=%E3%82%AB%E3%82%BF%E3%82%AB%E3%83%8A&dchild=1&keywords=turbografx&qid=1586417103&sr=8-5
Wonder if the games are not translated because it was a Japanese-version, maybe? The NA version might have them all translated..
@Nixx why not? any Virus is dead by time it gets to your door man
@@iandaye this isn't the Japanese version. The Japanese version is called PC Engine. This is the same ASIN # that's in the Amazon US Store
@Nixx Research that. UPS, and our US Postal System, like many other businesses, are struggling right now because of lack of business. Those who are able to need to spend money now more than ever.
@Nixx another hysteria virus paranoid...
My only experience with Turbo Graffix was playing Bonks adventure at a toys r us kiosk. Always wanted one though.
Bonk is awesome. They should make more Bonk games.
I have one still. I love my old consoles. I still have Sega, Nintendo, tg16, NeoGeo but don’t have my jaguar or 3do anymore 😢
I had one and it was I wanna say okayy. But it just didn't have the games I really wanted. Been great if they did better games
Splatterhouse was too scary for me to play as a kid, play it now and I might as well have been scared of the koolaid man, Oh Yeah!
bee boo wow
Splatterhouse on PS3/360 was poorly reviewed but I loved the hell out of it. It also has Splatterhouse 1-3 as bonus unlockables.
Very happy that I still have my TurboGrafx! I have the TurboExpress too! R-Type, Blazing Lasers, Splatterhouse, Space Harrier, Psychosis, Ordyne, Military Madness, Bomberman '93, etc. :)
I got mine and I love it!!!! All these mini’s are worth the buy, although $100 was kind of expensive, but better and cheaper than owning the actual console nowadays
Kind of. My local Half Price Books had a Turbo Express for $29.99 once. That's 90% less than normal.
I had the original system when I was a kid. I really enjoyed it. If this mini had included Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, I would buy it. The game came with the system back in the day. I don't understand why they wouldn't include it here. No purchase for me.
I really need to add this to my mini
collection. It appears to be the same quality as my beloved SNES and Genesis minis.
I loved my TG-16 and still regret selling it off many years ago
I had my first job (paperboy) when this came out, back in 1990, I was 12 years old. I got the console for Xmas and a few games. I would spend my paycheck by biking 1 hour trip away to the mall and sneak there over the highways. I would go to electronics boutique and browse all the cool tg16 games, that the local clover(Kmart/Caldor clone in the 80s/90s) didn't have. I would buy a tg16 game and later pc games.
Finally, the Turbo is getting some love
John, you rule and your videos make quarantine bearable.
haha, thanks!
@@JohnRiggs Missed a few secrets. Ninja Gaiden can be played in English if you hold I and II on the title screen, then press Select. If you highlight either Tokimeki Memorial (PC Engine Mini) or Salamander (T-16 Mini) on the game select screen and press “select” 2 times you'll hear the chime. Now press “run” on your controller and you'll be playing Force Gear. Pressing "select" 3 times will also cause you to hear a chime. In this instance if you press "run" on your controller you'll be playing Twinbee.
Only one controller though, come on. Snes classic, Ps classic and genesis classic all came with two.
I think the original came with only 1. Keeping it authentic lol.. excuses excuses..
Wait, what? It really only comes with one? Damn. I guess I'm ordering another then.
Man ya rolled right past ghouls n ghosts and Spriggen without even talking about them. They are amazing and the best versions of each ever
John, I'm not happy the didnt include Keith Courage...
I never had a Turbo Graphic 16 but then again I ordered a mini from Japan over a week ago and still waiting on it and from watching this video I I’m sure glad I’ll be getting a mini sometime this month .
Salamander and Life Force are technically different games. Life Force is the "international" port of Salamander but features the weapon upgrade system from Gradius, whereas the actual Salamander arcade title had a much simpler linear progression upgrade system. This has a dramatic effect on the gameplay balance and pacing.
You're right.
There's actually 3 different arcade versions: Salamander (JP), Life Force (NA/World), and Life Force (JP), and were released in that order. The game play in Salamander (JP) and Life Force (NA) is largely the same, with pick-up power ups instead of the meter, but the NA version having the most voice out of the 3 and some graphical changes. Life Force (JP) is the one with the Gradius power up system and has the most redrawn sprites and 3 different songs.
Lords of Thunder! Yes, I totally forgot I had this downloaded on the virtual console until you mentioned it in this video. That is an outstanding game with an excellent soundtrack, as you mentioned.
I remember thinking I overpaid for that game back in 97 or 98 for $50. I wish I still had it (I ended up selling all my Turbo stuff when I moved in 2003)
I just got a Turbo Grafx 16 and it’s such a great system. Even with AV cables the colors are great. I really like the built in turbo option on the controllers
Not having Turbo SUCKS!!!!! I dont have Turbo on half my consoles and its such a handicap I hate it!!!!!
I wish I'd gotten one when they were on clearance for 50 bucks back in the day. It was a competent system with some good games.
I had nightmares after I played Devil's Crush for many hours. I was a kid at the time. Good times. Also, omg Strider is still good till this day! Awesome video John!
DC isnt on the Mini but ALIEN CRUSH is, much better game. You can get Dragon Fury on Genesis which is WAY better than Devil Crush
I wish Konami would make another batch of these... Seriously, they're still in demand, but Amazon is charging ridiculous prices even for used ones...
I wish videogame makers would collaborate with these old systems and create prequels of games of today. Just a wild idea.
Ys I&II, Lords of Thunder, Sapphire, and many more? Holy crap! This classic console has the best lineup!
And Dracula X!
That one game that is a PC Engine port for Kung-Fu is actually CHINA WARRIOR for the North American released which we played back in the 80's
You are the only likeable and sane person in the metal Jesus crew.
I miss this system so much and wish I could find one and start getting my games back. Dungeon Explorer and Ninja Spirit are amazing. I would need y's and it came from the desert too lol
i pre-ordered mine august 9th 2019 and hope to get it some time this year.
Yeah that won't be happening till next year buddy. Release date is December 31st, 2020
@@Carlos36 that is a placeholder date because the date is not yet solidified.
Same. I preordered the Evercade too. Wonder if that will be delayed too?
Didn't have a Turbo Grafx growing up but man do some of these games look fun. Thank you for your input. I'm more leaning towards buying one and checking it out for my self now.
Here are the games I have on my original TG16:
Alien Crush
Blazing Lazers
Bloody Wolf
Bonk's Adventure
Bonk's Adventure/Bonk's Revenge/Gates of Thunder [CD]
Keith Courage in Alpha Zone
Legendary Axe
Pac-Land
Side Arms
Space Harrier
Valis II (CD)
Vigilante
SIDEARMS is my FAVORITE of all of them. I loved Bonk and ...well, I liked most of the games I had. Bloody Wolf was meh.
My collection on my region and RGB modded Japanese Duo is pretty small. But I have only had it a little over a year now. lol
Akumajo Dracula X: [Rondo Of Blood] [CD Japanese Game]
(And my all time favorite game and franchise)
Super Star Soldier: [Hu-Card Japanese Game]
Final Soldier: [Hu-Card Japanese Game]
Soldier Blade: [Hu-Card Japanese Game]
Keith Courage In Alpha Zones: [HU-Card, Turbo-Grafx 16 U.S. Game]
I had one as a kid as well. Dead moon and impossimole are the 2 games I remember the most.
Wish they were added on this.
"MORE SHOOTERS!" - TurboGrafx CEO
Got mine yesterday. Super fast shipping from Japan.
same here!
Cool. Thanks for the video.
Well...I have had my Core Grafx Mini for over a year now and I still think it is the best mini ever created. I haven't played it in a good while but I'm about to change that in a few minutes. I have forgotten how to access the secret games so that's really why I'm here.
Really looking forward to getting this console. Much more than the new xbox or PS5. Can't wait. Sucks it got pushed back, but it's a crazy time right now.
I remember many of those games on Z80 based systems back in the day!
I remember going to Toys r Us to buy a Genesis and saw Turbografx next to it in the glass case. I started to go back and forth as to which system to get. Ended up getting the Genesis. Still think I picked the right system but glad to see if I picked Turbografx I would of still of been happy.
Awesome video mr Riggs, I had the turbografx as a kid as well. Remember being the only one in my class that had it. I'm pretty sure my mom got it for me at a second hand shop and it came with Bonks Adventure, which I loved. I ordered the turbografx mini and can't wait for it to get here!
The graphics for this system are really good. They’re a little simpler and less muddy than some SNES games although they also don’t reach the heights of the best SNES games (Like Yoshi’s island and DK country)
That looks awesome, I've never played any turbografx games. I might have to get one.
I bought the TurboGrafx-16 Mini just to go with the SNES + Genesis + Neo Geo Minis as a way to relive the entire 16bit era. I do remember playing the system back in the day but never really took to it because so many of the top tier games were stuck in Japan.
My Turbo MINI is cool but it wont turn on half the time and Ive barely played it
Bonks adventure is on mine? I must have an updated version.
No. The Japanese version (PC Genjin) is on all of them.
There ya go...
...allllright.
I somehow missed this mini entirely, like it just wooshed by me. I used to own a TG-16, loved that console so much, had to get rid of it for reasons. Would have loved to replace it, but the mini is so freaking expensive now.
Great review, Riggs! I may cave and order mine from Japan. Everyone else, you guys can change the region on Amazon to Japan and purchase the in-hand models from there!
I ordered mine from Amazon Japan last night. I can't wait to get it and hook it up! Cool video John. But how could you forget to show Soldier Blade or the other secret games?
Yeah, I didn't show everything. Wanna leave you with a little mystery to discover on your own :)
@@JohnRiggs lol I gotcha man. Even though the cat has pretty much been out of the bag. ;)
I just bought one. It's Pretty good. Seems like it has the best from both worlds of NES and Sega.
hey!!!! mine just arrived FIVE minutes ago!!!!!!! stay safe and healthy. Add TG16-mini to the savior-list during the pandemic, along side Animal Crossing: New Horizons
totally!
You must be connected, lol
Just got an update from my Amazon USA order and it said it will not ship until January 8th. Officially canceled and ordered on the Japanese site.
I thought the Bonk game in the PC Engine section was just the Japanese version of Bonk's Revenge and didn't touch it yet. So, it's Bonk 1 and I am super happy about that.
I just checked it and and yes, the Lords of Thunder OST is indeed amazing.
I'll probably be picking this up for myself. These mini systems are actually great for me and my work situation. These systems are so small and compact they're excellent travelling companions especially since I work away from home 8 months of the year. This will definitely be a buy for me. I can't imagine how many more units they would be able to sell if they had a translated version of snatcher. A plug and play system with snatcher, people would buy the system for that alone.
Buy a raspberry pi 3 b+ and get a sd card with 50,000 games. I have one with 90,000 games. All retro game. Atari 2600 to Nintendo to SNES to Genesis to Turbo Graphics to Any and every Arcade game, etc etc etc etc. It cost me $125, looks like an original Nintendo with the flipping part where you put the game and 2 controllers. Also does bluetooth for todays controllers, is a working windows computer, and can go on the internet. Awesome and worth the price.
Thank you for the happy good lucky review Mr. Riggs loved it
I got to get the turbogarfx-16 mini and play those games.
I love the TurboGrafx! My best friend's brother had one, but threw it and all the games away when he got tired of it. Needless to say, I was mad at him. :( :)
I am just green with jealous rage right now.
I wish they made this selection as a game compilation on switch
The Japanese version of Bonk's Adventure is included. It has limited text so you can still play it.
I seen video where they showed this and the mini pc engines and they just blew me away if the money I would buy all three thanks for showing this but I didn't know put the games cards like wow that is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So happy I still have my Turbo duo and all my games 😁
I got a TG16 right before they left stores. I think it was $70. Sadly I only got 2 games for it. Keith Courage, which actually came with it, and Alien Crush. I did play Splatterhouse at a friend's house a lot though.
I have the original TG16 Can't wait to get the mini Nice job JOHN Be Safe✌💜😎😷🃏🃏🃏
Working Designs... Vay comes to mind.. so many great games.. Lunar... wow.. I had all these games.. but Cadash I had on Genesis... so these days I play Ninja haha as often as possible
Not to promote someone else's channel but Madlittlepixel has few videos he shows several hidden games you missed like Twin Bee, Force Gear, and how to run Ninja Gaiden in English
@madlittlepixel is my main homie. Great channel. He did.
John great review....keep up the great work...👍👍
Your review was awesome man I just got mine a few days a go and I wanted to see what your review on was like, so now I have it and th trick of holding Run then start button is a cool feature. Thanks.
I didn't have much interest in the TurboGraphx mini but watching this has piqued my interest.
I got one. It's a great little system. I also recommend the genesis mini and the neogeo arcade cabinet mini which is usually on sale on Amazon with 2 controllers for 80 dollars. I probably play that the most.
Can’t wait to get my hands on it! The higher energy video game system, indeed!
Missing legendary axe 1 and 2, devils crush, bloody wolf, and Westwoods exclusive tg16 Ad&d game Order of the Griffin. (not that I expected the Ad&d game, I just want it, the others were staples so it's kinda weird.)
You do have Bonk's Adventure on there...it's the Japanese version (PC Genjin) though.
It seems great! I`ve been searching for the PC Engine Mini mainly for the japanese games, but It seems this one has most of them (gotta confirm it though), AND it has a turbo controller already. The PC Engine Mini has a normal controller, and the Turbo is sold separately.
Awesome review, John. 😎🤘🏻🎸🕹 I’ve always been fascinated with the turbografx-16 and the turbografx mini is pretty cool. I do dig the collection. Especially since it has the turbografx cd games. I would totally get this.
One controller? And no six button support for Street Fighter? Dang.
Studied the US Turbo games list a dozen time- totally surprised to hear about the import section. Had no idea they were doing this.
I love dark dungeon! ;)
Dungeon Explorer is what sold me on the TG16, my friend owned the TG16 and I had the SNES, we swapped systems for a week and Was hooked for life!
After my recent 7800 video, I still had 'dark dungeon' on the mind. I get those two mixed up all the time, always have.
All good, just tuggin your chain Riggs!
Game on!
I wanna get me one of these 👍 hopefully a hack comes out to add Tengai Makyo back on there
Yes love this mini console I think it's one of the best ones released so far. I got mine from Japan Amazon on Tuesday and put together my own review and unboxing last night. Such a fun mini console I can't wait to do a live stream with it.
8BitGlitch79 I’ll checkout your channel, guy
@@treedeblue Cool thanks
awesome dude!
Me too worth the extra 15 dollars
Hey Riggs. Did you order yours from Japan? Thanks for the video.
Yes he actually put the link in the description
I did.
Got mine on Friday and I'm back in 7th grade!
Love my USBs up the Ying Yang 😂😂😂 Thanks for another great video John!
How did you get your hands on one of the TurboGrafx? They're delayed indefinitely on Amazon due to COVID-19 supply issues :(
Also.....what's up with your sound? Bit of echo and/or background noise.
Great review man! I never had one back in the day, honestly never heard of it until 2006. I definitely want the Mini.
Turbo Grafx was the system for fans of shooters and rpg's.
Thanks for confirming that I do not need one of these. Have a nice day
True. I'll emulate "Bonk" on my SNES Classic.
Never heard of this until the Wii so I won't be getting one. Didn't even bother to see what it was on the Wii. But I love all your videos no matter what you do. Thank you.
I have a lot of nostalgia for this system.
@@JohnRiggs The games look like a lot of fun. I never saw one here in Michigan growing up at all. Not even commercials that I can remember. Looks like I missed out.
bummed no final lap twin, keith courage or order of the griffon 3 of my favs on this system
I order this on amazon which is being delayed. After seeing a few unboxing and playing the games, I think I’ll canceled my TG16 order.
Wtf how you get ahold of that.. I have to wait till December.. great video
Kyle Gregory I am inclined to cancel mine. It seems like CZcamsrs had a pretty easy time getting one but Amazon is more than ok with saying no to the preordered consumers. Hose it.
Get it from Amazon Japan. That is what I did and I should get it next week and I ordered it last night. Plus it was a little cheaper than buying it here in the U.S.
atranfanatic IMO they picked a market to cater too. I’m inclined to let them hang. The US has proven for video games that the market is an order of magnitude greater yet no Asian companies can figure this out
Amazon Japan - easy to set up an account (just switch the language to English on the website) and it cost about the same as it would if I bought one in the US. Took less than a week.
JohnRiggs how much was it????
Seriously? Yngwie J Malmsteen Reference. We are definitely the same retro gaming age!
TG16 was by far way better than NES and SEGA. Plus those credit card size games was way ahead of it's times. I guess back in the days, it was bigger = better and more value.
You could play the same games on console AND portable.
@@JohnRiggs Yep, another plus. It's like the earlier version of Nintendo Switch. Play it on TV or to go. Just have to buy the both systems.
Him: There aren't these games on here
Hackers: *ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES*
Also Hackers: "Nope...nevermind!"
@@Marc_Araujo Don’t remind me of the pain.
It's good to see this one
Damn I wish those were readily available for retail
I really enjoy your videos. I like shooters so may look at this. I picked up a real system at a garage sale with only the unit and nothing else. My son will probably buy some things online to get it running.
I honestly have zero experience with the system and don’t ever remember hearing a thing about it growing up, but I’ve been interested in one as of late until I’ve seen the prices.
So jealous! Looks awesome.
No Legendary Axe? Are you kidding me?? Not even the sequel??
Not even Keith Courage!!
I love the system. Not sure about adding so many untranslated Japanese titles though. Thanks for posting.
Most are very playable
No Bonks Adventure or legendary axe, that’s vary vary upsetting.
It has the PC Engine version of Bonk's Adventure (it's shown as "PC Engine" on the back of the box). It's probably in Japanese, but I've never played it so I don't know if that would matter much.
EDIT: He mentions it at 13:12 and (according to him) the language really doesn't affect the playability.
I used to have a Turbo Graphix 16 with the box when I was 15. I traded it away for a Gameboy. It sounded like a good idea at the time because the only game I had was Keith Courage in the alpha zones but I regret the trade.
I regret they didnt put more shooters on the MINI and instead put on Power Golf for some reason
John, does getting the wrong System Card error for Gradius 2 mean that there isn't an enhanced version of it? It seems strange that they didn't have the option to load virtual System cards... after all its all virtual, and nothing that couldn't be don in software! Good review, I enjoyed it :-) Do you happen to know if R-Type is complete (as in all stages) on all the Mini PC Engine systems, I've read that some only had four levels on the Minis? Thanks.
2:29 I am revoking your man card. 😉
