No one played quite like Joe Sample. He had a unique way of melding the Jazz with Rhythm & Blues; all the while maintaining a high level of Soul and sensitivity. You are missed, yet always remembered fondly. Rest peacefully.

2024 Still the Jam! Can’t play an instrument or read a note, but my soul rejoices when I hear great music. Been listening to the Crusaders / Mr Joe Sample for 40 yrs. He left us much too soon.

I heard the voice of Joe Sample from the acoustic piano recording mic most of my life in most solo records, and to me it keeps me connected with his energy . Since a little kid i thought the piano could speak depends on the player ,Isn't that funny ? We miss you Joe, Texan piano ranger !
Best i have heard after Oscar Peterson and that's the ultimate compliment, words seem so inadequate in describing genius, just listen and be grateful you were alive to hear it.
Regrettably, some of us were too young, musically undereducated, and mostly unaware of the phenomenal talent that existed in the jazz, fusion, smooth-jazz world back then. We let Joe Sample and the C's perform like this and not witness it as fans while blissfully unaware. What a shame.
My late uncle and dad put me on to The Crusaders and Joe Sample. Most jazz critics would say The Crusaders were pioneers in their own right into fusion jazz. Legendary performers. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

JoeZilla! I love the Yamaha logo is taped over. Bass player is doing a bit of overplay I think, but drummer is killing it, but I want Stix Hooper! I love when the vet players are getting some grey mixed in: old enough to know better, young enough to still burn it.

I'll go out on a limb here, but not really. Joe Sample was the best pianist to ever play. Show me someone that could cover what he just played and I'm sure there is no one, yet he could easily cover anyone else's music and add something amazing to it. I know that's a subjective statement, but the proof is in the pudding.
Joe sample is one of the greats. But he joins a class of prolific piano composers.
crusaders his in the 70s and went smooth jazz in the 80s so he has commercial appeal. But in the depths of jazzfunk that are technically proficient.
