    Dan is working with classic permaculture principles! Plants with symbiotic relationships make all the plants stronger, enhance the soil and over time require less water and fertilizer and are more productive.

    The lady who was doing sheep sheering is an animal healer! Is she didn’t know that yet that it’s the high time she knows. The way she was with sheep was so beautiful and full of love - the sheep just relaxed in her arms and let her do whatever she wanted. She is a beautiful Soul and I would love to get to know her. A vote from a patron - don't aim to make your chateau super-elegant. The fact that you inherited wallpapers and kept them contributes to the charming eclecticism of your home. The chateaux you have recently visited are working hotels, remember, and it's appropriate that they might choose to be over-the-top. My opinion is that one could not live long-term in those rooms. Some of the other vlogs about ETTCDIY participants, on the other hand, show rooms which seem quite unfinished. Your rooms are neither OTT nor unfinished. Stick with that balance, Goldilocks, and your rooms will be "just right".

    The sheep shearing music was great. My favorite comment “ How many onesies do you have? A LOT of onesies, they are critical.” I love life at LaLande.
    Pumpkins in the roses. The native Americans in our area taught the Pilgrims the “Three Sisters “. method of planting.
    First a fish for fertilizer, then the corn. When the corn is 12 inches tall plant the pole beans, they will use the corn to climb. A week later plant small leaf squash (pumpkin is a squash but may be to vigorous). The leaves of the squash will help in weed prevention. Dan is innovative using a rose bed I’ll be so interested to see it working.

For the lighter and smaller rolls we could just count the layers and figure how much was left. I do the same sort of thing but fold mine around my 24”x8” acrylic ruler. Then I slide the ruler out fold the “bolt” in half and stack. I might worry a bit about oils in the cardboard leaking into the fabrics. The most important part is consistency of size as then everything stacks together well.

      @twobluestripes Před 3 lety +4

      Mothballs are pretty much only effective in sealed storage containers like sterelite (plastic) tubs. Cedar oil can be toxic to moths/larvae but it needs to be in high quantities and the wood must be refreshed by periodic sanding, and it eventually dries out.
      Best course of action in terms of prevention and mitigation is to thoroughly inspect and vacuum/scrub the furniture, and to wash the clothes and fabric (which they appear to be doing w/ the clothes at least, which is great because any kind of sweat/skin oils/stains attracts the pest). Periodic emptying and vacuuming out inside and under/behind the wardrobes afterwards will also help.
      I recently dealt with an uptick in carpet beetles in my closet and dresser. It was gross, but dismantling the dresser and wiping down every inch is what did it for me. I washed everything inside. And i sprayed the carpet at my baseboards and the corners/edges/nail holes of the dresser with pesticide after cleaning for peace of mind.
      I think I’ll use lavender sachets in my drawers and closet because some pests are repelled by strong smelling herbs. And even if carpet beetles and clothes moths aren’t one of them, it will make my clothes smell great!

    • @KrisanthiaMum
      @KrisanthiaMum Před 3 lety +1

      Oh my. I can only think of one thing that makes me “smile” about moth balls and it’s a dirty little joke about them. I loathe the smell of them. Cedar panel lined cabinets are very good… lavender… bay leaves… line shelf with scented drier sheets… anything other than the balls 😳 would do 😉 You can never really get the smell out of any fabric that is stored with them. But very good idea to do something to keep out the moths and such out 👍

    Kirsty was brilliant with the sheep. Of course Dan did a fabulous job with the wild area. I loved what Sarah & Cat did with the fabrics-I think use all of those rolls of wallpaper or whatever they were in the through out pile under the fabrics. Marie’s meal looked scrumptious! I suppose Steve was behind the scenes working hard as usual? Davey of course is so pleasant, courteous & generous, as always & never feels the need to be the centre of attention. There hasn’t been many vlogs with Selmar & Desial lately; however that’s why I really like Selmar-he doesn’t need to be in the limelight all the time to make an impact; he’s quite happy being himself & undertaking things out with of Laland. Can’t wait to see the Ian’s all together again doing what they do best!😊

    It's so nice to see all the ladies together again! Stephanie, the fabrics! I would be in fabric heaven! I worked for Pierre Deux French Country here in the states. and have a small collection of beautiful French fabrics. I've used some of them over the years and I'll never part with them. And I'm now reminded I also need to organize a bit better!

    Oh, how I giggle! I'm so happy watching everyone working throughout the chateau but a little sad when it's over. The fabrics shouldn’t be stored with pins! If there is moisture, humidity, etc. the pins could destroy the fabric if the metal corrodes. The fabric will get stained and sometimes the pins don’t come out of the fabric … get stuck. Ask me how I know! Cardboard is also bad. You should fold around something the same size and then take it out with the shape formed. Be careful how long you store directly touching wood. There are archival paper and boxes that are good for preserving fabric.

    Dan is simply implementing permaculture principles into his planting schemes by growing aesthetics and foods together and conserving water by providing ground cover. Check out the 'three sisters' method of growing pumpkins, beans and corn in the same patch. it's a very old Native American system used by rural folk who only had a small parcel of land off which to feed their families. Pumpkins shade the soil which keeps in the moisture, corn grows tall and uses the available light and hot sun to ripen the cobs and beans grow up the corn stalks using them as natural stakes whilst fixing nitrogen into the soil.

    Dan, I use pumpkins as ground cover as well. I live in Southern Oregon where we have drought; more often than not and they are fantastic for weed suppression. I don't grow them for pumpkins which means they don't require a lot of water and their foliage is delightful. You are a clever gardener.

    I love the fabric cabinet! I have my fabric on shelfs folded and sorted by type of fabric, knits, light woven...... In the attic it might need something extra to moth proof the cabinet. Maybe vacuum bags or something to seal the doors like foam anti draft strips (in dutch tochtstrip) to keep any moths away from those beautiful fabrics.
