    Good info in the vid.
    Only crit I have is that I'd rather be someone with a harness that falls a lot than someone without that falls once.

    2:25. I remember that feeling in June when we won the daily lottery. We planned the trip after loosing the pre-season lottery then suddenly that email came. We won. I'm in my late 40's and not particularly fit; although we hike often. Mind you this is two months after torn mesiscus surgery. I has a sudden feeling of "Oh shit... Now I have to actually do this!" We were well prepared otherwise. Brought less water than we needed but brought a filter for the river (strongly recommend). Cables seemed easy. Especially going down (oddly). Hiking poles absolutely a great idea. Gloves a needed item. On the way down we chose to follow the JMT rathe than Mist trail's steps again. Perhaps something to consider... I had not acclimated to the elevation of Yosemite having flown in from ocean level elevation. Breathing on this hike when not acclimated is a hurdle. The hiking distance and shear elevation gain was the most difficult part for me. Great video and information!

    I've seen rangers checking permits well before the Sub Dome- like just out of Little Yosemite Valley. How lucky do you feel?

    Do you need an additional permit just to enter Yosemite? Or will the half dome daily lottery permit get you into the park and be allowed on the trail? (Website is a little confusing)

    • @ernestlcolemanjr
      @ernestlcolemanjr Před 2 měsíci

      This is what the website reads. If you have a reservation for one of the following, you do not need an additional reservation. You still pay the $35-per-car entrance fee upon arrival (credit card only) unless you have an annual or lifetime pass. Your reservation for in-park lodging or camping, a Half Dome permit, or a wilderness permit allows you to enter the park 24 hours per day for the duration of your reservation or for three consecutive days (whichever is longer).

    I was going to Yosemite for the first time in a week with a backpacking permit which included Half Dome but because of the interesting Winter weather I have decided to wait until September. I wanted to at least hike to the sub dome and was not sure if mentally I could handle half dome but I get the impression there is someone commonly checking permits at the base of sub dome and if your permit does not include half dome you are not allowed to hike to sub dome but I believe you said anyone could hke to sub dome so I am confused which is correct. Is anyone allowed to hike to sub dome. My permit for September does not include Half Dome.

    Half Dome is no joke. A man fell to his death right after we descended the cables 15 years ago.

    Okay I won the preseason lottery. But have no idea where to go to actually GET the permit. I have found NO resources or information anywhere. Except on the confirmation it says to print it off but that it’s also “not your permit” I called the ranger office and they said to just bring my ID and the confirmation. I just am feeling anxious that they will turn me away.
    Thank you so much

    Not being clipped in, you depend on others not falling over you and making you fall as well. I rather not depend on others.

    I disagree with you a 100 percent about people using the harness. On the contrary, harness users are the most responsible safety conscious hikers than people who don't use harness.

      @@michaelbottjer3385 yes the permit checkers need to start hiking down around 2-3 because its about a 4-5 hour hike down so just wait around for them to leave and go up half dome you wont get in trouble and no one really cares

      When I went to Zion/angels landing in August 23, there was nobody checking permits.
