  • Part two of two videos showing replacing the valves in a Lifan 125cc clone of the Honda Z50 engine.
    Replacing the valve seals, lapping and installing valves, attaching the head, the cam timing chain and test starting the engine.
    I did not install the exhaust as I didn't need it to test the engine and its just more work if I had to take it of for some reason. I also just forgot to hit record when mounting the carb, but its just a spigot mount VM26-606 anyway.
    I will add annotations at some point.

    Did you do any work to it or is this all of a sudden and it used to work fine? If you did some work then I'd check to make sure the timing it set up properly. If it used to work then check your tappets.
    I've had popping and air coming from carb when the CDI wasnt connected properly also.

    I've had the engine since 2010, has been fine. Starts up first or second kick even after being stored in winter. Only problems I've had I caused myself. I'm only changing the valves here because the spark plug got cross threaded, I nicked one of the valves when I re tapped the hole.

    to grind the valve you can also use a tube like a carbs tube..you will put it a the back of the valve where the spring goes and you will turn it around to grind

    Tappet bolts meaning the 4 bolts that attach the tappet covers? They are M6 bolts, on my engine the lower two are 20mm long (M6-20) and the top two are 16mm long (M6-16). Make sure you see how deep they go into the head before attaching the cover plate to make sure they are not bottoming out in the hole instead of getting tight against the cover.
    If you mean the actual bolt and nut used to adjust the tappets then you'd have to use trial and error or call a company like T-Bolt USA.

    you can now get a big valve head from tbolt (30mm intake and larger exhaust) and the ports to match them all but for you you would need to bore out your cylinder or buy another one or do your own valve reliefs on your piston.

  • @mertti96
    @mertti96 Před 11 lety

    14mm wrench was nice enough to fit inside the head, and then i pulled the wrench in the way that it pushed down the spring, and i could take off the 2 things holding the valve, its easier when you put something under the head so the valve will not move when the spring compresses

    Best bet is If the person your buying it from bought it new, find out where they got it and call them. Failing that eBay generally has a good selection of aftermarket parts, at least for the type of Engine shown in this video - the TMS is completely different so that might not be the case for you though.

    • @n1bpd
      @n1bpd  Před 8 lety

      +Doitlikeidoit
      The cam timing tensioner should take up any slack in the timing chain, it will be different.
      I'd be too concerned about the piston hitting the head and/or the valves to consider trying it, way too much math and trial and error for me.

    • @guytypeperson
      @guytypeperson Před 5 lety

      It only goes on one way. The three bolt holes in the sprocket/cam are not evenly spaced (kind of like the holes in a bowling ball). There is really no adjusting them. You just have to line up the crank and the cam, and then get the chain on. The only way to mess it up it to jump a link on the chain.

I know when the engine is complete its TDC bit when apart? @Bachorfelle1 you will need to run it in first,then set valve clearances. I'm betting you haven't done any running in at all and just thrashed the bollocks off of it. I work for a company that sells lifans and the only problems we have are from people thrashing it out of the box, throwing away the running in guidelines as if to say"pfft I don't need that crap"

      There's also a roller for the cam chain (item 9 in the following link), not having that could make it rattle.

      That could cause the engine to not start. Does the notch on the cam sprocket line up with the mark on the case when the flywheel T mark is lined up with its case mark?

      n1bpd hey, thanks for your reaction, i already made some adjustments and its about right now ;) still got some problems though, i can only start my engine with the choke on and maximum gas, after about 5 seconds it turns itself off. you ever expierenced this and know what it could be? :) thanks

    i changed my head gasket and dunno if i done the timing correct
    but now my bike has no compression and wont start and sound like a rattling noise from timing chain

      @n1bpd  Před 9 lety

      Did you tighten the cam tensioner? That's probably why the chain is rattling 22:42
      You can check timing by removing flywheel cover and the cam sprocket cover on the head. Turn flywheel so that the cam sprocket's mark is lined up with the mark on the head - the T mark on the flywheel should be lined up with the mark on the case.

      See the 3 screws that hold the cam sproket do they have to be tight to get compression

    • @n1bpd
      @n1bpd  Před 9 lety

      That shouldn't affect the compression.
      If they are loose it will cause damage when they fall out. Make sure the dowel is in the middle which keeps it perfectly centered. Otherwise the tension on the timing chain will change and also cause problems.
      Did you only change the head gasket? Or did you switch out anything else too, like valves. If they are not sealing properly (from not being lapped) that will cause no compression and so will worn valve seals.

      no just changed it but i loosened a screw where the cam chain is its black like a cam roller but i put it back tight and would having no exhaust on loose the compression and i just hand thightened them 3 screws would i have to tighten them to get compression and see when you take the head of and the gasket seal that was abit loose could that have anything got to do with it
