- Alex Meixner is practicing some good ol' Cleveland-style button box polkas for his upcoming performance at the Illinois Polka Fest. He’ll be jamming with some of the best Cleveland-style musicians on the scene. Catch his sets on Saturday, February 4 at the Hyatt Regency in Schaumburg, Illinois!

Alex Meixner is one of the most dynamic accordionists on the scene today. Meixner has performed around the world, notably at American festivals like The National Folk Festival and Central Park SummerStage, as well as at uncountable community celebrations and accordion-centric events. He has worked with Jack Black on the Sundance-screened, Netflix movie "The Polka King", with Post Modern Jukebox, and as an on-screen spokesperson for Hormel Pepperoni.

My Gosh, what memories! I grew up in Cleveland during the 1950s/60s, half the family was German, the other half Slovak. My childhood was spent listening to polkas, csardas, laendlern, schottichen, etc. Nothing calls itchy feet to the dancefloor like a good polka! Thanks for keeping this happiest of all arts alive! Bravo!

Beautiful. We used to have accordian jamborees here where I live and I always played guitar with the accordian players. Covid put an end to that and to this day they haven't started up. Boy I sure miss playing old time music.

This is awesome, reminds me of a song my grandpa used to play on his button box that I am now trying to learn. Is this a diatonic? I believe mine is either a 3 row diatonic or a Helikon, as it has 6 horns on the bass side with 8 buttons, one chord and one bass of which sounds the same on a push as a pull. I also have a Hohner one row diatonic that is pretty fun. Got a few jams I can do on that one. I saw your map in a previous video, there was only one pin in Montana, come make it a second one.
This is a diatonic 4 row button box- what is referred to as a Steirische style (Austrian- Slovenian) with gleich tones in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows.
