    Stuff we use:
    LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
    Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
    Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
    LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
    COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
    EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

    In my honest opinion, I use the same logic in my filmmaking that I use in conversation: Keep it short. I don't see the problem in making short films in making a name for yourself in the entertainment industry. I am writing a bunch of short film scripts to understand the basics of screenwriting and hopefully they will be made and garner the amount of success that will get my name out there. I understand that Hollywood is getting more and more difficult for filmmakers, but as a would-be filmmaker, I have the "do-it-yourself" and "make sh*t happen" type of person and I am using that mindset to get my short films out to the public.

    I first wondered this about Self Publishing, and now about film and business. Typically artists, creative types don't have a head for business. That's why they aren't businessmen, they're artists. In writing you have agents for just this reason. But these days, more and more I wonder, and worry, how many artist's work will we never see because they are not savvy business people? And do we really want to limit art to those with a strong accounting background? How will that limit art?

    Definitely great advice all around and makes me feel (thanks to you) like im on the right path. Something im working towards with my screenplay turning into a novel right now in fact. The IP, awareness and audience is important and where its at as the new business model for creators, raising their profile and having a social media profile to get recognition by building an audience. Its also time that creators and artists get to reap the benefits and not get taken advantage of but im finding its not for the faint of heart and its a ton of work for one person to handle. So much to do...

  • @MauAmzArr
    @MauAmzArr Před 2 lety +1

    If you pay more for a blockbuster, you might push some audience into watching other films which would be good for those other films. I am a total film lover, but if I had to pay over 50 dollars to watch a movie I would rather spend that on a concert and watch the movie when I can watch it for free. It wouldn't make sense to me, even though that's what I love most to do, going to the cinema theatre. On the other hand, it is a teeeeeeerrible idea for the indie filmmaker. Imagine if that happened to Paranormal Activity, they would have never be able to escalate as a highly profitable franchise. That is the beauty of all entertainment business, that it gives you one of the greatest possible side effects as a profession; the possibility of making it into the big league with enough work, knowledge, social skills, and luck. Creating ticket price tiers would kill social mobility inside the industry. Totally against it as a spectator and an industry worker.

    JJ Abrams mistreated the existing SW characters. Extension is key but ruining the original at the same time is not good.

  • @MrLucidImages
    @MrLucidImages Před 2 lety

    I get what he's saying about P&A to build awareness - but it just feels so wrong. Like a self fulfilling prophecy...especially when budgets have become so small and you can make a movie for almost nothing - having to compete in the traditional advertising model doesn't make sense when you have a base of users that will watch your content, solely on what they have searched before or watched already. It just seems like print and advertising needs to be reformed before the film paradigm...making niche films that appeal to a specific dedicated audience compounds your success rate, versus trying to be an indie filmmaker making a 4 square film banking on major international and domestic release.
