    I just bought 2 Opliy 13.5 inch camping stools rated at 320 lbs for bike pack camping. At 1.5 lbs I know there are lighter options but not many that can support my larger body weight of 265 lbs and the $22 price tag can't be beat.

    I loved the Nemo when I first sat in it. So much so that I bought 3! The more I used it, the more uncomfortable I felt and the less I liked it. Not comfortable for eating in, the sides crowd your arms and elbows. I ended up returning them and have continued my search. .

    Thank you so much for this clear review of a variety of chairs! I have an old Pride Family fold-out that I've been using for years to play guitar on my patio in the summer. Unlike most patio chairs, it has no arms. You can't play guitar very well on a chair with arms! And I haven't been able to find another chair like that for a friend who wants to jam with me. So I saw an ad for the Cliq chair, but is it any good? Your video was very helpful! Nemo won't work for me because it has arms, but Cliq is looking perfect. And I'm thinking about that stool because (before the pandemic) I sometimes got stuck in crowded public transit with no place to sit and I have a disability that makes it difficult to stand that long! Would be helpful to have that thing in my purse in case of transit emergency or other too-long standing situations. Thanks!

  • @TrishBenedict
    @TrishBenedict Před 2 lety

    Fair enough and a lot of people like the Nemo but I got one and absolutely hated it. Hated. For starters it was impossible to get the thing stretched to put the pins in the slots. It looks easy when you do it but I couldn’t. I don’t have great hand strength and I have some arthritis. I took it to REI and the sales girl there was sitting and trying and straining and struggling. I left her to do that and went up to look at shoes, went back and she’d finally gotten it together but it took her a long time. I originally thought if anyone there could put it together, I just leave it on the pigs, toss in the car, take it home and let it sit and stretch, but it was such a hassle and I didn’t like the comfort of it so I just returned it. But I found it so uncomfortable anyway. For me it really wasn’t worth it and my 6‘2“ husband didn’t care for it, either. We,wanted something for stargazing, something that wouldn’t be as bulky as a folding lounge chair to have for the occasional meteor shower. But for us this Nemo is not it. Too bad because it was on sale for around $100 for that weekend! Usually they’re just ridiculously expensive.
    But the other thing is it wasn’t comfortable for us. Especially for me with a broad female butt. I’m not fat, but I’m not lean back there, either. And that stiff mesh fabric where the ridges gather just felt like steel bars. I kept getting up and looking at the one in the store to see if they had some sort of support rods back there. But I would’ve put up with it for the occasional meteor shower - and that’s about it. The rest of the time I could sit in something a bit more traditional to enjoy the sky. (We van camp, we don’t backpack, so we can bring a mix of compact chairs - If we plan to go to a major meteor shower I might just invest in a couple of padded loungers to bring along. We can carry them outside on the rear ladder).
    So that’s a different perspective from a 5‘3“ female with a broad-ish butt. But the Cliq looks like a serious contender for a couple of chairs just for carrying easily and tossing out/folding up quickly. Thanks.

    Nice review. One comment from long use - the Helinox style chair (we got ours at REI) depends on shock cord to hold the parts in place. After a few years, the cord wears out (meaning, it loses it's elasticity) and you have a really nice chair that won't stay assembled. Nope, can't replace the shock cord. We found a work-around with 3mm cord, but it it's annoying. We'd definitely check out the expensive chairs to see if there might be the same issue.
    Good luck on your 1000 subscribers, we'll do our bit!

    • @AtHomeInTheFuture

    • @ATXJin
      @ATXJin Před 3 lety +2

      I can't speak for the Helinox copy cat chairs, but you definitely can tighten or replace the internal shock cords of the Helinox chairs, the exact same way you'd replace the shock cords of a lightweight tent's DAC poles. You can remove the smooth rounded "nub" at one of the ends and take up some slack of the cord or replace it altogether.
      Good luck!

    I bought the Nemo Stargazer and it was the most uncomfortable chair I have ever sat in! I couldn't recline or sit up in it. Hard to set up with those poles in the back. I returned it the next day.

    Other people complain that you slide down out of the Cliq Chair (?v=VeZkGKIUcAs) and I wonder how could you slide out of the Sitpack Campster if there's a literal stopper right there between your legs.

    REI used to make a stool that's just like the BTR stool. There's had a back rest. I like how small it stowed down, but it was not comfy for long periods of time.
    My wife has the Stargazer Recliner, and it is comfy. The cupholder is a little awkward, especially if have a container that's open like a cup. It is possible to spill onto your leg. Also, be careful with those legs. Then tend to snap in pretty abruptly and I've gotten pinched a few times trying to set those up.
    One thing with almost all of the chairs here, they are pretty low to the ground. While resting my feet on the ground, my knees are higher than my hips in all of these chairs. You really have to tuck in your feet underneath and lean forward to get yourself to get out of these chairs. The Stargazer chairs add a degree of difficulty to them when you realize that they swing.
    My wife came across a Stargazer knock-off from Costco that is taller and is easier to get out of, but it is actually pretty heavy and takes up more room than a traditional bag chair.
    At the end of the day I still like my old fashioned bag chair the best, I just wish it was as light and stowed down smaller. I look forward to seeing what the future brings. I has been nice to see some new designs lately to shake things up.

    Requirements of a camp chair include:
    1. Seating height at normal seating height. Something that you find yourself having to collapse down into, and rolling out of is not smart. Take Helinox to the junk pile.
    2. Has to have a back rest. Add all of those stools to the junkpile.
    3. Comfort. You sit down to relax. Any chair that has a bar across the bottom of your thighs will restrict circulation. That’s right - the junkpile.
    A light weight chair that has served me well for about 15 years now is a Roll-A-Chair. It is nice.

      Helinox is for a specialty buyer. Helinox is for a fit backpacker not a car camper. So only send it to the junk pile if your idea of camp is 10 steps from the truck. Even though the REI ultralight chair is a better option in my opinion at 1 pond.

    I know people are divided about packing a chair on trail but for me there is no way I'm going to add over a pound to my pack when I have a sit pad and a log.
