  • Drone fishing is a relatively new activity in the drone world. To come to fruition we needed a commercial, moderately inexpensive, a drone that is capable of carrying bait and weights out over the ocean. It needs to be sturdy, powerful, and not too expensive - so it doesn’t hurt so much if it ends up taking a swim. The worst outcomes from a drone fishing outing! Here we will go through all of the things you should know about drone fishing and how you can choose the best drone for your fishing adventures!

Hi there just wondering do you have or have you used any of the drones? I have had the splash drone 3+ now I just got the gannet pro with camera both have there pros and cons I like how the splashdrone has the live feed to the controller no need for smart phone or anything, gannet can lift a big pay load and $1000 cheaper

I'm thiking it should be easy to add an ESP 32 with some switch or relay to drop the bait. it has a pretty awesome chip-to-chip communication that works pretty much as long as there is a line of sight between the two... this way you should be able to add it to whatever cheap drone you could find that can fly far enough from the base controller to make it competitive with just casting. the places I would use this, it would pretty much be a gonner if it fell in the water for any reason.

Funny you didn’t mention the cuta copter trident 5000 or boss. 3.5kg and 4.5kg payloads meant for fishing.

You should use the drones before doing a opinion blog..all the drones have anti corrosion, the Gannet is also SA inventor creator, Gannet and splash can land on the water with camera. Gannet can flip itself if overturned. Gannet produces the best drone releases. A hook ...you will loose your drone..bad advice

My mavic 3 cine had software glitch, plummeted into ocean, line broke, 5k drone gone, DJI is not taking responsibility, blaming pilot error, they stated "its not allowed to carry any weight with it" i carried less than 100 grams of weight, some how drone thought i was on land and black box data showed it forced landing, but it didnt show on my rc controller any forced landing, it just changed its flight into vertical trajectory and spirallled down

I have a DJI Phantom 2 and I added a servo that drops the bait. It works brilliantly and only cost me a few hundred bucks (New Zealand $). I have made a few for mates too. It carries a 4oz sinker, with a 10 metre, 6 hook backbone, with 6 traces with a circle hook and 1/3 squid on each hook. I send it out about 400m each time and always catch fish. I have also just bought a crashed Phantom 4, so the camera has been smashed off, and I am waiting for the dropper mechanism to arrive from Aliexpress. DJI are old school ,reliable tech and no complications. I know of too many people who have lost splash drones. I literally talk to a new person each time I go to the beach. I never land mine on the sand either. I hover it and catch it.

Dont buy dji, and do not use DJI of any sort for fishing. My mavic 3 cine had software glitch, plummeted into ocean, line broke, 5k drone gone, DJI is not taking responsibility, blaming pilot error, they stated "its not allowed to carry any weight with it" i carried less than 100 grams of weight, some how drone thought i was on land and black box data showed it forced landing, but it didnt show on my rc controller any forced landing, it just changed its flight into vertical trajectory and spirallled down into the ocean.
Dji response "We consulted our engineer, he told us that the aircraft added foreign objects at this flight, which could affect the Ultrasonic, it was active all the time and has a small value even when the aircraft reaches high altitudes. The aircraft will recognize it is still on the ground, the TOF height was 0m, after the pilot pulled down the throttle stick, Near Ground Landing was triggered and the aircraft landed to the water in the end" Which is not true, my rc controller didnt gave me any alarms for forced landing and ive flown my drone many times before, at many different places and used for fishing before, it did not land in water, it literally changed trajectory into vertical position and spiralled down rotating into ocean

When somebody who obviously isn't a drone fisherman tells actual drone fisherman what they should buy. How about you actually try these out instead of just repeating stuff you read and drone fishing has been a thing since Phantom 2... there's nothing new about it at all. These drones have all sorts of issues specific to each model and you mentioned none of those issues. Definitely NOT a drone flying pro.
