There was a fictional movie about this conflict, that was made back in the 1960's. I saw it at that time, here in the U.S., but I can't remember its title. It was about a French army patrol, or possibly a French Foreign Legion patrol, that was cut off and surrounded in the North African desert. It profiled each of its trapped soldiers individually, before all of them were killed. Can anyone tell me what its title was? It may have also been withdrawn from public viewing sometime in the past, for some reason.

@Bouhammou Zakariya wait what?- what do you think the Expeditions to Algiers were retaliation for? The Barbary states had been slavers for centuries- In fact the Mercedarian holy order was founded back in the early 13th Century largely for the purpose of randoming Christians enslaved by North African Pirates 5 centuries before the French raids on Algiers. But it only got worse after large numbers of refugees from spain arrived in North Africa after Spain was decolonised in 1492. Just one horrible example is the sack of Mahon in 1535 in which the infamous ottoman Slaver and pirate Hayreddin Barbarossa took 6000 spanish prisoners and sold them into slavery in Algiers. The Barbary States even took slaves from as far away as Iceland. No wonder the Spanish, the Americans, the Swedish, the dutch and the French raided back. In fact it was only after the French occupied Algiers that slavery was finally stopped. previous bombardments without occupation resulted in treaties to end slaving signed by the local Authorities but these were never respected so finally the French had to come in and end the practice themselves.

+copy of a text from an Internet user, from wikipédia+ I'm bored so I'll destroy the jokes about the military history of France There were 53 major conflicts in Europe. France was a belligerent in 49 of them, and the United Kingdom in 43. Of the 185 battles France has fought over the past 800 years, its armies have won 132 and lost 43, leaving only 10 battles undecided. Giving the French military the record of victories in Europe and therefore in the world. France is the nation that has participated in the greatest number of wars and battles in the entire History of Humanity. Over the last 800 years France has fought over 200 years against England, over 150 years against the Germanic nations, over 190 years against the Spanish/Portuguese, and against many other nations yet. Often these wars were fought against France in numerical inferiority in front of coalitions of several nations aiming at destroying it. France, a warrior nation par excellence, the strategies deployed by these generals are still being studied today, notably Napoleon Bonaparte's campaigns. On all lands and continents France has shown the world what it was worth in combat. Battle of Auerstaedt (1806), 25 000 French against 60 000 Prussians, French victory @t Battle of Patays at 1 against 4, French Victory. . @t Fort Carillon, 3600 French against 18 000 English, French Victory. @t Battle of the pyramids, 20 000 Fr against 50 000 Mamelouks, French Victory. @t Austerlitz, 73 000 Fr against 86 000 Russians and Austrians, French Victory. @t But it is also the battles of Bouvines, Verdun, Soissons, Marigan, Castillon, etc.... And those of the Prestige: the battle of Camerone, 62 French legionnaires against 2000 Mexicans. @t Bir hakeim, at 1 against 10, 3 700 French against 37 000 Germans/Italians. @t And so many others... But France is also the one that colonized England in 1066, this French country for centuries to the point that 40% of English words are of French origin. It is the Daughter-Elder Nation of the Church, because the first barbarian King of Europe to have converted is none other than Clovis I, King of the Franks, it is therefore the protector of Christianity, even within its national borders one feels its destiny. The one that dismantled the 900-year-old Holy Roman Empire. Enabling Germany to be born 65 years later. The one that allowed the independence of the USA by fighting in America against the English. The land of the "Dynasties" Many European kings have French ancestry. Under Saint-Louis France is the richest and most populated country in Europe as well as the most developed intellectually and artistically thus influencing all of Europe. The Amerindians nicknamed the King of France the Onontio Goa "the greatest mountain of the earth" at the end of the Seven Years War, overwhelmed then by the French defeat and their fate to throw at the hands of the English who will exterminate them thereafter. The one that dominated Europe for several centuries making its royal court the most frequented and appreciated by the Kings of Europe. The country of humanism and human rights and the first modern true European democracy. But France is something else: France is the second nation in the world to have made the most invention and discovery. It was the 2nd largest colonial empire in the world, stretching across all continents and oceans. It has the 2nd largest maritime space in the world behind the USA and could legitimize certain zones classifying it then world number 1 in maritime possession across the Globe. - It is the largest nation in the European Union in terms of area. First European agricultural power and 4th in the world. 4th world military power and 1st European. 5th economic power in the world. Permanent member of the UN alongside the USA, Russia, China and England. 2 nd industrial and commercial power in Europe. France is also the 3rd country in the world to have manufactured the atomic bomb. France is also a Space Power, 3rd nation to conquer Space, the largest space budget of the European agency. This is france
The French oversaw a colonial regime of rape, torture, and racial apartheid. The Algerian resistance was fighting a war of liberation against an unjustified colonizing force. It was the same story in Vietnam, both for the French and later the U.S.
