      Funny Story: One time a while back I had a dream I was chasing my Pomeranian around and I started calling her name out in my dream but as I was waking up I was really reaching for her and doing the lip thing to call her. I laughed so hard when I realized what was happening!

  • @ClaudiaSketches
    @ClaudiaSketches Před 8 lety +10

    I know of a lady who ended up with a severe stutter because her teacher traumatised her and forced her to write with her right hand. Forcing your kid to change handedness is more likely to cause harm than good: there's a reason why they're using that hand- it means they're more comfortable with it and have probably developed more fine motor skills in that hand.
    I'm mainly right-handed (I have a streak of ambidexterousness, but my right hand is my main hand) and I'm creative. I'm an introvert. I have heard that ambidexters tend to be less successful or have a lower IQ though? (That seems kinda weird and maybe it's more bad research/psuedoscience)
    But one thing I have noticed (perhaps a cognitive bias though!) is that a LOT of arty CZcamsrs seem to be left handed- more than 1 in 10, I bet!

    • @ClaudiaSketches
      @ClaudiaSketches Před 8 lety +2

      Just want to add that possibly a self-fulfilling prophecy is at hand here. (Bad pun).
      If you tell a kid that they are good at something they will likely be more driven to continue that thing. Perhaps telling a left-handed child that they're naturally more creative will mean that they're more willing to dabble in the creative fields? Just a theory.

    I'm in the left handed artistic introvert club too. I love being left handed and wouldn't have it any other way. I had a few hiccups in learning how to do certain things growing up, including having a teacher try to insist that my mother let them make me use my right hand.
    Being the only leftie in a right handed household was interesting. One early memory of realizing I was different, but not quite understanding yet was when my (right handed) twin sister and I would play write (scribble), she would go left to right across the paper, but it was more natural for me to go right to left.
    Learning to tie my shoes, using safety scissors and those desk/seat combos designed for righties were also struggles. And of course, can openers and knives.

    I'm left handed, I'm an introvert and an artist. didn't have any trouble learning to write correctly. I learned to play guitar and to knit and crochet right handed. I do struggle to remember to do my drawings right to left instead of left to right because mentally it is natural for me to think left to right because I've been reading and writing much longer than I've drawn. I have to deliberately remember to draw to other direction. I can drive a standard shift car easily even though the shifter is on the right side. I think having to compensate in a right handed world has helped me to be smarter and to developers my brain more.

    I’m a left handed artist. My school tried to change me to right. I draw and write left but literally everything else I’m a righty. Even airbrushing and shading techniques are done right handed. I am very creative but I believe that ANYONE who never lets go of the child inside can be creative no matter which hand is dominant! Some of my friends are actually jealous of everything I can and attempt to do! So Right or Left be you…that’s what makes the world a beautiful place!

  • @Gantorin
    @Gantorin Před 8 lety +12

    Prevent left handedness? That is odd... I am a righty with my sister and father are leftys.
    1. Lefty does not make you more creative. You feed what you want to grow in your life. Hand preference had nothing to do with it. Also reading, writing, and arithmetic are not limited to right handers... I stick at math.
    2. Being dislectic is not limited to online left handers. I know a number of people with this challenge who are right handed.
    3. As far as not getting better jobs or higher paying jobs MAY HAVE had some validity. In the days of old left handers were shunned as evil and/or untrustworthy. I think that back in the day when people would judge your character by your handshake... most left handers would reach to shake with their left hand which was read as untrustworthy. I do not think stigma holds up anymore. Also with most people typing instead of writing manually, that seems to be hard to judge now.

    If you grew up in the 50's like I did, it was more difficult being left handed. There were not tools that worked for lefties, such as scissors, can openers, etc. Everything you learned from someone else, you had to turn around in your head to figure out how to do it left handed. I am now having some trouble learning painting strokes because the videos are with right handed people. But with practice, I will get better.

    I'm left handed, and I'm 64. My older sister was made to be a right handed. I've lived with all these silly myths. There are no positive facts about left handed. I did know we have a day & I never received a cake or balloons either..I don't write upside down like most left handed people. I turn the paper just like right handed people do. I've always hand nice hand writing, but I was always practicing it. My problem was with every other thing, like bowling, softball. Shooting a gun (I know but I went hunting with brother, & husband, etc) also shooting a bow & arrow. I do all those right handed. Because right handed people taught me how to do them. I have a twin that's left & a grandson who's left. We are just left handed that's the same as right handed! So there you see, I don't think I'm more talented being left, all my family are talented. I do love using both hands but I cannot write right handed but I can paint right handed, go figure!Left handed people arise & take over the world😂

    @Lego9663Studios Před 8 lety

    I'm a rather odd case. I was born left-handed and was taught to be right-handed. I didn't realize this until high school.
    Since then, I've been trying to learn to be a lefty. I do most simple tasks with my left hand naturally, but things I was taught, like writing or throwing a ball and such, I do right-handed. For instance, when I first started using a computer mouse, I used it left-handed and sideways.
    I write very correctly right-handed, but my hand cramps and I don't like to write with it. I'm actually glad I learned to be a righty.
    I'm sometimes creative, but I also live in a perpetual state of artist's block.
    Also, concerning introversion and extroversion: no one is completely one or the other. The way our personalities work is that we'll be closer to one or the other, but you can have an introvert who both likes to be alone and be with others, like myself. People are more complex than simply "introverted" or "extroverted."
    Anyway, thanks for reading! :)

    I'm right handed and an introvert. My sister is left handed and omg she is always the centre of the crowd. I'm also quite creative - I like to do both writing and art - but my sister doesn't. She did have a little trick when she was learning to write where she would write in a perfect mirror image (like if you looked at it in a mirror, you could read it perfectly). I personally don't believe that it matters whether a person is left handed or right handed to affect their personality - everyone is an individual with their own views on life and everything. I do believe that there are some people who are not fully right or left handed, neither fully ambidextrous because my sister would do everything left handed apart from fishing - because she was taught to do it right handed so that was the only way she knew. Therefore, I think the teaching of the process/movement can affect what hand the person ends up using for the process

    I’m a leftie and I found this video when I looked up tips on drawing symmetrically and to see if there were any tips for lefties (I dunno, the internet is full of random stuff). My mum actually went to the Doctor with me when I learned how to write because I was picking up my pencil with my left hand and she thought there was something wrong with me and to see if there was anything that could be done (oh the 70s)…. All good now, still clumsy AF and having to find ways to paint without smudging with my hand and painting from right to left on my paper. Anyway, your video was funny and entertaining and I can’t believe people still to this day make a big deal out of being a southpaw.

    right handed - i am introverted , creative, I also jerk awake suddenly when I fall in a dream. Apparently being left or right handed there is absolutely no difference. Our ancestors were ambidextrous and when we developed language we favoured one side of the brain to make room for the ability to speak, I think it's just an accident that we favour the left side(right hand) in our species.
    Fun facts: if you write in Arabic which is right to left all the right-handers leave smudges ,left-handers have an advantage in most sports because they are so rare and it's easier to type on a keyboard if you are left handed because all the most used letters are on the left hand side of the keyboard.

    Hi Valerie
    I'm right handed, creative and introverted!
    My son is an odd case - he draws and uses scissors with his left hand and writes with his right hand. We thought he was left handed as his natural hand to hold a pencil was left (huge panic for his grandad who wants a professional golfer in the family and apparently this will be harder for a leftie?!?!!) but once he started writing letters he prefers his right hand. He plays guitar and golf right handed but his dominant foot is the left (goofy on skateboards, surf boards etc) I learned long ago to let him find his own way to do stuff. Love my lil freak !! (Don't actually think he's a freak at all)
    But lefties - you have a huge advantage over the rest of the population..... You get less viruses and cold type bugs. Something to do with drinking from the opposite side of a cup so in cafes etc you drink from the side most people don't use. Slightly worried about what this says about commercial dishwashers but take the advantages! X

    Valerie, Interesting video once again. You look very good in shades of red. It was nice to hear your mom's voice too. I wish I could hear my mom's voice again, but that is another story. I'm sort of ambidextrous but mainly right handed. I'm very creative and a organizing nut and somewhat of a introverted person. I have PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder) and arthritis for the last 10 years, probably because that was around the time when my Gillian Barre Syndrome began which made me learn to adapt. I find lefties have a unique outlook and make great friends. After reading some of the comments I would be interested in knowing why so many of us are introverted. Probably because we spend a lot of time on our art which is a singular activity. Hugs!

I have Aphasia, so bear with me. I was right handed. In the hospital, I didn't my name, but I wrote it out (left handed"). I was ambidextrous, who new! My write is much better. So, right handed or left handed its the creativity. In college, I did B.S. in Marketing and a Minor in Accounting.

    The thing most people don't understand is we don't have a left and right side to our brain, we use both sides all the time, but each side has different characteristics, for example one side has more creative traits and uses pictures while the other one focuses on words and remembering things. for me, I have a bad memory but I remember pictures and I'm creative so I mostly use the traits of one side, there are names for them but I can't remember them at the moment. hope that gave you some info haha

    I'm left handed and always thought the same thing, never really thought of it as a big deal. When it came to writing the only issue I had was getting pencil smudges on the meat of my hand, I didn't really have issues writing, if anything I've had girls comment on how nice my handwriting was. I feel I'm a creative person, drawn a little bit in the past, and just composed my first piano piece. Oh yes, the scissors. I never realized how evil they were tbh, I just thought all scissors were cheap and uncomfortable to hold in school. Oh and on introversion, yes I'm an introvert. Lefties ftw!

    As a child, and even into adulthood; I was ridiculed and bullied by my own mother for being left handed. There is nothing wrong with using your left hand, it's a hand. Hands don't define you as a person. However you do need to be aware that some right-handed tools can be dangerous when used in a left hand.
    Anyway. One of my biggest issues with doing art and being left handed is trying to use a dip/fountain pen. I managed to dull/break the nib's I had, before I could figure out how to use them better as a lefty. I've found that I push across the paper; when you're supposed to drag. Something I've found a little hard to unlearn quickly.
    However, I have found a few upsides when playing sports. In Fencing, you have an advantage over your right-handed opponents. Moves from a lefty are not as easily read for untrained right-handers, and can be seen as unpredictable in combat. And in Archery, you can stand back to back with a right-handed bowman. I did this, and the girl I was partnered with agreed that it felt pretty badass standing how we did.

    When I was younger I was ambidextrous, but my school made me write only with my right hand. Now I still can't hold my pen/pencil properly and there are some things I can only do with my left hand. Like throwing darts and playing pool. I don't think it matters which hand you use, I wish I carried on using both, but I can't change the past. But if I ever have a kid that uses their left hand, I'll make sure they have all the necessary equipment to do so instead of trying to force them to use their right hand.
