- Nasi Impit (also spelt as Nasi Impit) is a traditional compressed rice or capsule rice from Malaysia or Indonesia. This is also widely found in Singapore because we also have big population of Malays in the country. Made from Jasmine rice, this rice is pressed together or compressed in a container to form large chunks of rice. After compressing the rice, what you get is almost equivalent to ketupat.
We have made this nasi impit for our lontong and satay recipe. You can also use this to go with soto ayam which is a Malay chicken soup.
See the ingredient list of this recipe below for your easy reference.

Charred satay cooked over coals and served with peanut sauce and springy cubes of compressed rice is a cherished memory of my childhood in Singapore
Yum yum. We just had Indonesian style satay yesterday. They were so good. Hope to share the recipe soon. Have a great weekend, xiao-echo 🤓

You’re most welcome Koulu. Glad we could help. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you. I use the ratio of jasmine rice & water as your recipe. I put in a bit of home made coconut milk in addition to pandan leave, add some salt. Taste very nice 😊
Great! Thanks for showing the method to do this! I always buy the commercial pack from supermarket to bring back to Europe!
Wow. You must be really loving it to lug it back to Europe. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Glad that we can help you with this recipe. Roland’s recipe makes rather soft lontong rice. If you want it to be less wet, please add lesser water when cooking ya. Have a wonderful weekend, Geok Lian 🤓🤓
Brilliant idea!

Happy cooking!
Can I use leftover rice make it?
Owh .. I rmmbr not having to mash .. but u do need to compress it using a big mortar ..
Hi Mrs Azmi. Good sharing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
lol how silly of me, i was trying to look for alternative to compress it, and most video are showing plastic bag which isnt always safe to boil in it
make sense it's just compressed rice, just compress it after cooking 😂
thanks!
It is much easier den buying and boiling for hours!!!
Very interesting. When I want to make nasi impit, I normally buy the rice from supermarket where the rice is separately packed in a small plastic sealed bag. You then boil them till cook which somehow I dnt find it very safe to eat. Your cooking technique is good. Thanks.
You're right. It's not a good idea to cook or even microwave food in plastic as heat can cause several chemicals to leach out. I always microwave my food in glass containers.
Thank you so so much, Alan. Ya you’re right. Usually we try not to buy those too. You have a great weekend!
Have a great weekend, Tequila&Tea!!
2 cups of jasmine rice 6 - 7 pieces of pandan leaves
900ml of water
Hahahaha Jalan Impit... 🤣🤣🤣
Hehehehe. Malu!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪 Have a great weekend, Casey!!
Rather than with a wet knife, it will be much neater and cleaner to cut the nasi impit with a thread :)
namanya lontong y pake daun pisang, bulet2. kl bukan gitu y bukan lontong namanya
Better you put banana leaves over the lontong and cut with plastic knife.
Thanks so much for the suggestion, Rolf 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🙏
How you eat this pressed rice. Any suggestion?
Ive used it with curries or soups..

This is the gravy for nasi impit
With satay gravy or lontong curry, yummy
I rather make the small rice ball will be more easy.
Not easy, in fact i nearly fall crazy making it, no matter how i compress it, the rice cake wasn't hard enough, can't even form into a cube, arghh... Geram... Maybe the rice i used, i should just buy those instant ketupat in a plastic bags and cook... Hahaha
Maybe just roll it like a beef wellington. Refridgerate then cut it when cooled
