Giggles guaranteed - wild Ural side car adventure with two girls screaming

  • Here's part two of the Ural sidecar adventure in Portugal....and we finally get the two of us riding side by side! Double trouble fun! Sidecars have totally blown my expectations. I honestly didn't think it would be quite such a hoot. The bit that really makes it for me is the experience with a friend. Riding up next to each other, able to chat and giggle, absorbing and sharing the adventure but also co depending on each other. I have to ensure the bike and sidecar are powered and controlled but Emma has to manoeuvre her weight to support. I need her like she needs me. It's a wonderful experience for two, especially when one is not a rider or less into bikes. We've had so many giggles today!
We visited the Ural Experience Centre in Portugal to get some training on how to ride an adventure sidecar motorcycle. This video is day 2 and 3 with Ural. I hope you enjoy!

Well done Ladies on joining the Sidecar family. I have been riding Sidecars for more that 45 years. Have had the opportunity of riding many different ones over the years, including the Ural. I have two BSA Outfits, a 1922 ( yes, 100 years old this year ) and a 1934; 1942 Harley Davidson and a 1981 Moto-Guzzi with a British Squire Sidecar.
Sidecar outfits are fun, different, draws attention where ever you go. They have advantages and dis advantages, in handling from a solo Bike. Yes , it is a skill to ride one. once you have , you have it.
    Greetings from Durban, South Africa.

I’ve been into the world of Ural since 2005 (2005 Patrol) and I currently own a 2010 Gear Up since new as well. These are the most fun I’ve ever had on a motorcycle (I’ve been riding fifty year plus.) They are a tinkering machines that require allot of attention but if you keep up with that which is for the most part simple they’ll pay you back with miles of smiles. You have to ride them with in their limitations. They are not a highway over 70 mph machine. Also, you,”Drop the clutch”, meaning you don’t drag the clutch, you use your throttle. Reverse…. These rigs can go very fast in reverse. Walking speed only in reverse. They are very unstable in reverse fast and you can flip them over going fast in Reverse! Practice,”flying the chair!” You want to know the feeling of when the sidecar lifts off the ground. Know it. Master it! Practice allot and practice some more! Modern Ural have come light years ahead of even my 2010 Gear up. I’m almost turning the odometer back to zero on mine (100,000 Kms). I co-admin. Soviet Steeds a great place for all things Ural and Russian rigs in general. Lots of great rallies in the U.S. as well with family friendly fun times. Enjoy!

Very cool, I've been riding a sidecar for 34 years, off and on, but more. I have one fitted to my 1988 Lowrider. I ride mostly solo on my sidecar, I have to move my weight around a lot in corners, it is great fun to hang off the bike in corners.

Such a great intro to sidecars. My wife and I have done a lot of 2 wheel touring together. So, I could see she was a little discouraged when I would ride off with my ADV buddies and leave her at home. The Ural has become the best adventure! She has fun in the sidecar and we get to hit the trails in NE of the US where I can show here the beautiful parts of nature that. After decades of riding, I have to say, the Ural is a totally different experience. Thanks for introducing Ural Experience Portugal. We are hoping to do a tour next year.

A great two part series that I am sure could be expanded on. It was very enjoyable to see you exploring the peculiarity of handling the Ural sidecar motorcycle. I found it hard to adjust to my Ural Gear Up at first after riding Harley Davidsons for over 35 years. It took a while before feeling like I had much control. At 90km per hour it felt like I was just holding my breath hoping the bike wouldn't twitch left or right after cresting an off camber corner at the top of a hill. Definitely different skill set compared to a regular two wheeled motorcycle. Congratulations on managing to develop those skills in such a short timeframe. Thanks for sharing it was fun to watch.

For the price of a used URAL side car outfit it's like buying the side car and getting the bike for free. Used mine for my primary transportation for 3 years after a leg injury. Lots of fun. Not fast but more smiles 😊😁 per mile than anything else.

    • @piearm1271
      @piearm1271 Před 2 lety +1

Give it a try , the worst that can happen is you don’t like it! It’s so different to anything else you’ll do. Once you get the hang of the differences it can become addictive! I’d recommend an experience with a skilled driver. Using the throttle as power steering is a blast.

Great video thank you very much, When in Ontario Canada I had 2 - 2 wheel drive models and loved them, but the first year with the fuel injector had to take it in a lot and get it remapped a lot. also a lot of trouble with the break system, the carb model was ok but lacking power. If they had a dealer hear on Prince Edward Island I would have another one. But not the bike I would want with no dealers around. At 73 I want to ride not a lot of maintenance. Hope they are better now. But over 1,000 to the nearest dealer not good. With the island being home to a lot of retired people I think this would be a great place for a dealer ship, but would take some time to build up a good customer base. I love side car rigs but do not like trikes or revers trikes. as you are sitting in the center of the lane instead of where you should be.

Yeah they do. It’s optional so given they are a beast to turn in two wheel drive you just engage it when you need it. It’s there to get you out of trouble or through really rough stuff. It’s probably mentioning in part one of the videos

I think all bikes could benefit from reverse at times 🤣

I totally agree!! It would be trouble without it on the Ural that's for sure lol

Some large touring bikes like BMW and Goldwing do have reverse.

Define really don't need a whole lot of attention simple maintenance that's pretty much about it unless you do something stupid like running out of oil you should also mention that used combinations are much cheaper than buying a new one and cheaper than converting a solo bike to a sidecar bike and if you don't like the sidecar bike you can always sell it I don't like a lot of things that they done to the newer bike with the fuel injection instead of carburetors different size wheels front end parking brake on the drum brakes bikes all the wheels are interchangeable you don't have to do anything stainless steel exhaust system is nice but unnecessary and very expensive along with the German shock and the hydraulic steering dampener you reading the road chassis guys don't want to take it about 50 miles an hour even with the increased engine displacement and the Super Shock and super steering dampener show change to me if all these changes have not improved the bikes and they are superfluous they made so many of the older style by three and a half million and with the expense of the newer one they put out so many fewer a year than what they used to why they don't catch a low production manufacturer exemption from the EU regulations I have no idea because then they would not need fuel injection which causes them to run as hot as hell and are cool boxer Motors are usually the coolest running Motors around

It's amazing how narrow the roads in England and Europe are they certainly weren't made for cars with the speed you can go I don't see why any of those European countries abandoned motorcycles for transport as well as I cars for family transport like they had in the 50s beautiful scenery looks like you're having a lot of fun

Oh no no it is one thing to hang off on a racetrack is something else to hang off on the street and at the speed you go on the street you don't need to hang off I'd be so afraid of my passengers losing their grip and getting run over by a following car just go slow and enjoy the ride for newcomers I recommend reading the sychar Driving Manual that comes with the bike having ballast in the chair taking it slow and practice practice practice be safe out there
