      Stern copied his every move in Detroit from steve dahl a chicago dj who was syndicated in a few states. ( stern says he invented syndication for radio) in fact steve used to call a chicago theater called the bijou theater so stern started calling the same theater even though he never stepped foot in chicago. Stern had to get out of town to DC bc the detroit syndicate of listeners started telling Steve " theirs some dj copying everything u do & say. Also his vietnam bit he stole from the greaseman . Also their was an article someone presented that howard is quoted when he was on nbc about the FCC " first they went after imus & now they are coming after me " so their recognition that stern knew he was doing what imus had already moved past ".

    Howard never understood ratings. He would say that he had higher ratings doing afternoons but imus was in mornings & went up against the top competition. Howard would have like a 5 share & imus a 4 share & stern literally thought that meant he beat imus when they were on the same station & were not head to head. Morning drive back in the day was where the most competition was & advertising dollars went. It's just crazy howard did not get how radio worked & ratings.
    It's funny no matter how many years it's been since he worked with imus he never let the grudge go. It's kinda funny how similar stern became to imus. Talking about imus ignoring his 3 daughters is priceless. They hate him too. They didnt go to his wedding & he still has not mentioned he has a granddaughter born last summer. U would think that's a big deal ,having ur 1st grandchild.

      I was actually surprised to find out that Howard’s longest reign as the consecutive #1 show (of their timeslot) in NYC was only from 1994-2001 in 2001 he was Beat out by Hot 97 which became the number 1 morning show & you know, the Money paid for that morning program was nowhere near what Krock paid for STERN’s show, & in that Ratings Book Howard was a tit hair higher than 3rd which was WINS(I think)..... But Howard sold the biggest lie ever when he made everyone think he was the ratings bringer Cuz he started in professional radio for a decade & got a ton of jobs but couldn’t get any type of viewership in any of those several areas & in none of those time slots & was always fired for bringing zero ppl ... UNTIL Fred in Hartford & After Fred volunteered to stay after his over night shift to help Howard, Fred was the one who brought companies to have some interest in Howard but Howard still couldn’t get anywhere until he Had Fred Robin & Jackie.... Howard became number one for the first Time in his career in the market & time slot he was in which I believe was 3-7 in 1985 & they didn’t crack top 10 till like 82 with Fred Robin & Howard in the afternoons of that market..... he was working professionally since 1975, & That doesn’t even count his time doing college radio prior......So Howard had a decade & couldn’t even make it as the normal average DJ, until he had Fred , Robin & Jackie..... Then in New York it took Howard awhile to hit #1 in the mornings, I think 1992 was the first time he hit #1 in NYC in the mornings .......... He really Suckered Fred, into being paid a quarter pennies on the dollar of the value he brought to Howard & the show

      @vigusdna3760  Před 3 lety +1

      Just to clear up-- Obviously Howard hit Number 1 again after he was knocked off by Hot 97
      & to the people using his last ratings book as a comparison tool to use to judge the success of the other shows After is are crazy lol... Those are the outlier & not the norm of Howard’s ratings haha ... drives me crazy when they use the abnormal ratings he kept for the time prior to leaving terrestrial radio, people were only tuning in at that rate Cuz he was moving to satellite so was always going to have a huge ratings boost for that time frame

    • @vigusdna3760
      @vigusdna3760  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh and also the other things is that Robin was on a Top Show #1 in a Top 5 Market & I think it was mornings too but might have been afternoons & she did that before working with Howard..... Robin has had been a big part of a #1 show success without Howard but Howard doesn’t have that at all... & Robin got that achievement within 6months of Leaving the military & starting a career in radio, Howard had a decade + in the pros when he achieved that & with A ton of jobs but never achieved that without Robin.... That’s Funny, & the only reason Howard got to still have a DJ job is because of his father’s connects in Radio as well as Howard being Willing to Work as the Program Director/ Program Manager to be able to work on the station as a DJ #FACTS

      @@vigusdna3760 ty so much for the info. Wasnt the show on hot 97 that beat him had lisa g on it ? How bout the fact that howard copied the midwestern regional steve dahl? • @natalieps2387
      @natalieps2387 Před 3 lety +3

      @@vigusdna3760 I also think as u mention howard finally got to no. 1 in 92 not only w/ the regulars of robin & fred but jackie writing every single funny thing he said & howard always whined that Jackie wanted more credit but I think Jackie wanted to be paid accordingly. The last contract negotiation where Jackie walked he saw how much money howard was hoarding & was able to get away with it bc fred & Robin should have unionized with Jackie & later the fantastic billy west ( I wanted to say they hit no.1 in 92 in big part to billy west & all the great voices. In fact howard started to really resent billy & prob why the john k ambush which is horrible to watch esp since billy literally buried his brother the day b4 but someone in some market wrote a big article about the success of the Stern show . Robin handed him the article to read b4 either proof read it & Howard was mortified to read the author gave a lot of credit to billy west calling him such a " talented dynamo " he started treating billy like crap & asked him to take less money than union scale . So it's funny how Howard's father is so pro union but howard is so anti union even saying " the unions are ruining this country "so he hated that bill was protected by 3 unions & that mel karmazin actually scouted & hired Billy not Howard. So Jackie was smart that he wanted all of them to stick together & not have don buckwald as their agents bc don just looks out for howard & they are like the barnacles on the big fish. Jackie saw Howard was making at least 25 million In 2000 or 2001 which one was his last year. Howard got a big portion personally from all the affiliates that picked up the show. It was starting to go downhill in late 95 when billy walked but was still going string based on fumes . The show imo started really losing some ground in 96 to early 97 w/ the endless promotion of private parts & I think it turned people off & that's why it did not do very well. It made 40 million but cost 25 million to make all bc howard had to shoot in nyc which is the most expensive overpriced place to shoot anywhere & why tv shows & movies go to vancouver to mimic nyc. And for a year they had to pay for Howard's penthouse which is such an unnecessary cost considering the shot the thing in nyc bc Howard worked & lived there. He was limo driven to work from long island. He could have done that for the movie but he is a king baby & his marriage was coming to an end . The promotion they did was about 15 million so basically they broke even. I believe that is why howard has such contempt for his fans bc everyone thought if all his fans bought a ticket plus their spouse it would be an easy 100 million but his fans were so over saturated about it I think they figured theyd wait til cable. Jungle to jungle beat it in both their opening weekends but paramount cheated by adding in Thursday nights gross. I believe by week 2 the re run of star wars knocked it out of number 1( which as I said should really have been jungle to jungle)
      So Jackie deduced he was worth 1/25th of what stern made as he wrote every funny line. Jackie also said in a way fred was screwing him ( & fred himself) by never in all those years ever asking for more . He always took the first offer. So it put Jackie in a bad spot bc fred had been there or with Howard much longer. So I'm not surprised the show dropped out of no. 1 in 2001 bc Jackie was gone. I know artie had so many fans but the dynamic was so off imo. Artie was a younger guy & fan & kissed Howard's butt endlessly in the beginning years. He also told howard he could not write for him like Jackie & so he was just a 3rd person on the mic & stepped on things a bit & took jokes & stories too far many times. So to me it's obvious why howard got the hell off free radio & to satellite a. Of course the enormous contract & b he did not want people to start noticing his slipping ratings. I'll never understand why he let Billy walk ( which was the best thing billy ever did he is worth 40 million) over money when it was never gonna be near Howard's howard could have taken a small amt of his salary & kept billy & jackie. I know everyone says Jackie made the biggest mistake ever by leaving the show. Obviously yea it was a dream job to not have to as a comic go on the road constantly & have a steady income but u also want to be paid right & omg howard would never want to lose Jackie fred & Robin at once so I'll never get why those 3 ( which Jackie tried) didnt stick together & not have Howard's agent. Also working for howard has to take its toll. artie literally fell apart b4 our eyes on that show. When u work in a place that's all about having zero dignity bc everyone has to " break balls" & snitch on eachother all for the kings amusement. After awhile u gotta feel like some dancing idiot. In arties bro fight u could hear all the frustration of how badly u r treated & he did not even scratch a 10th of the surface. I mean its pretty low to exploit a totally out if control addict who ballooned up to 300 + lbs. He said u have zero privacy or dignity there & ur not even accommodated financially for it. I have no clue how gary has stood for that for so long except that he knows he has zero talent & nobody else would hire him. I mean look at how fast guys run outta there when another job comes up. Sj, billy , scott einzinger isaac & so on.
