Square/Diamond Cabochon Simple Wire Wrapped Swirl Pendant Tutorial

  • Materials:
    3 pieces of 20 gauge square wire, 11 inches long
    22 gauge half-round wire(no need to measure and pre cut, just keep it on the spool and use as needed)
    1 cabochon (mine is just a tiny bit less than an inch)
    All my wire is dead-soft bare copper from Rio Grande

      I must admit this... I almost had a heart attack when you cut those back wires 🤣 Well, that's my "defect" ... I can't cut wires... I twist, swirl, spiral etc... and the final piece ends sometimes like it's too... "much" of it.
      I am learning from you the beauty of simplicity, which I admire. Thank you once again. ❤️
      (still recovering after the cut of those wires... 😝).

    Love the way you finish off the back wires and the downward bend on the front ones! Thanks for your clarification on how to wrap both ends of the half-round wire! Any chance you can do some more rectangular designs...maybe even a bracelet? I have several stones around 1" that I'm needing designs for. Thanks!

    My biggest challenge is bending the square wire to hold the stone in. I guess I haven't mastered my technique, especially in the front. I can't always get both sides identical 🤦🏼‍♀️half round wire is my next battle... it twists on me sometimes so I have to fight with it to finish my bail hahaha. Thank you for your videos, they are super helpful 😊

    Beautiful as is the norm with all of your creations! I love your tutorials and even though I have notifications turned on, I ALWAYS check to see if there are any new ones posted! Anyhow - could this be done with a puffy heart? [It has a front drilled hole that I'm thinking can be covered with a swirl or some other decoration - I hope!]

      About 6 years ago we moved to Australia, but I actually lived most of my life in the US. Mostly Boston, but then also North Carolina. I think you could do it with a puffy heart, and then just cover up that hole with a swirl or a bead

    O Ana….I have two pairs of pliers identical to yours. (I bought xuron because you use them) One pair has blue masking tape on metal jaws so as to not scratch.

    Great tutorial for a square cabochon. When I swish the wire to front and back, I always scratch my wires, is there a trick to avoid this please?

      You can use a cloth over the wire before you press down on it with your pliers, so protect the wire. But scratches will happen sometimes, I use sandpaper to remove them.

      @@OxanaCrafts I have wrapped the ends of my pliers and other tools with some thing which looks like green self adhesive bandage but does not leave any residue. I want to see if it will stay on the tools and if it will prevent wire marking. Has anyone else tried this and did it work for you?

      I have tools that have plastic covers over them so there are no tool marks or scratches. Well worth the few extra dollars. Buy them for less on Ebay.

      Every stone is different, I don't know where to get one that is very similar to this. But you can do this tutorial with any square stone, can be a little bit bigger or smaller. Try searching for "square labradorite cabochon" on etsy and you should find some that will work

    What size is the stone you use in this video? I have a square lepidolite cab I'd like to try it with, but it's quite large and I'm not sure how long to make my square wires. Thank you and I love your videos!

      just a tiny bit less than an inch, you could alway add an inch or two to your wire length if you are worried about them being too short

      Have You Done a tutorial about how to wrap a round stone /sphere marble approx 15 mm ? I have been searching on your chanel without luck , I’m interested to wrap aqua angel spheres that are not covered like a cage but more like a pendant with a dual stone dangle , the sphere in center like a cabochon and a small teardrop faceted crystal 9-12 mm hanging similar to the video you did with dual stone dangle but I don’t know how to wrap the sphere stone like that🤦🏻‍♀️😅

    I've been sitting on a purple yellow flash labradorite for a year now and it just so happens it's the same size as the one in this video. I think I know what's going to happen to that little guy ❤️🤘🙏
    BTW, when you coil the half round wire around the two square wires for the bail, about how long is that? It looks like it's just a little bit past an inch in measurement.

      It is probably about an inch, but you could do more or less depending if you want a smaller or bigger bail

    Do you recycle your copper scrap pieces? I know I’m the states there are places that buy the scraps back and melt them down.

    Hi Oxana, love your videos! Can you tell me more about the wire you use? I know it is square copper dead soft, but is it silver plated? It looks silver in the videos to me. When I looked on the website it looked copper colored. Thanks for your help

      It is solid copper, maybe it us just light reflection making it look silver. But I do also use solid sterling silver in same size if I want to create a silver version
