He sounds and looks like the nicest man in the world. Nice video...very helpful.
Aw shucks. (Your check is in the mail)
Earl. First time seeing any of your videos and can easily label you a smart man! I like how with our memory at our age you put in the markers that make you not forget the orientation of pieces and so on, good ideas.
Liked and subscribed. I only stumbled upon this channel because I picked one of those jigs up here in Australia & wanted to find a good demonstration. For me you went above and beyond showing me how to use it and ALSO make modifications for it!. Great work Earl, also great accent and presentation!.
I love the clever ideas he came up with to improve the jig. I especially like that they are simple enough for me to copy. The quality of the video was excellent too. Thanks for making a great video.
That stop block who would have thought of this...To say a great idea is an understatement . I found a jig just like the one he is using at harbor freight tools for 14 bucks. Thanks for the million dollar tips here Earl
Earl, thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience with us. Please keep ideas coming, they are greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching, Dale! And thanks for the nice comments.
Very good ideas on the add-on "tools" to make replicating easy!
Just bought a jig for a project for my wife, and your tips will definitely come in handy.
I just bought a jig yesterday! I am really pleased with my test run last night! Have a great day Earl!
Making jigs for the jig. Good stuff. Great ideas!
Thanks Rodney.
I've got to hand it to you, those are some very clever additions to a simple jig to get repeatable results. On the edge reference insert you could add an 8-32 screw/ with a lock nut for repeatable micro adjustments.
Hey Earl, I'm going to git this Dowel Jig. Nice talking to you, thanks for your help. Patrick
Thank you for making a video about dowel jointery. Dowels get the job done and they are inexpensive.
Hi Brian. I've become a BIG fan of doweling...so much so that I sold my Jet hollow chisel mortise machine and the Delta tenon jig. Thanks for watching!
dont get any of those cheap imitations, they are nasty and end up out of line, just belong in the bin!!!
Too smart! Well done! Got lucky and found the only one available within a reasonable distance was this same “Eagle” one. Very happy!
Your jigs were INSPIRING. THank you for sharing.
Very nice plant stand ( I presume ) simple and well executed..❤️💪🏻
Doweling is not easy, glad to see you conquered them. I’m still fighting with my jig
Beautiful stools. Thanks for the video.
I have watched several of your videos recently. You are a very creative guy! Another job done very well. And the quality of your presentations is excellent. Thank you.
Aw shucks. Thanks Keith. I'm glad you like them.
Mr. Earl. I love ur I Love You video. is it possible for you to do a video how you make this ruler jig I think that's the only way I can get my lines straight. thank you so much
Nice video, with excellent tips. I purchased that same dowel jig at a garage sale this past summer, but have not tried it yet. Very cool to see the potential. Thanks.
Thanks for watching, Craig.
GREAT job Earl. I was looking for a self-centering dowel jig and was swaying towards the Dowelmax system. But after looking at your jig AND the attachments we can make AND given the amount of times I will use it, I think my mind is made up.
The simple attachments you made, really turn this jig into a VERY useful product.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Hope you have as much success with it as I have.
I am so using that long gauge! Good job Earl, mama must love those stools.
Yep, she's happy with them. Thank for watching.
Earl, you are the man! I learned a lot. Thanks!
I really like the accessories you made for the dowel jig. I have the same jig and I was frustrated with its limitations. I am off to copy your ideas. Thank you for posting this video. Take Care.
Hi, Jean-Marc, good luck with your jig. I think you'll find it much more accurate with these accessories. I don't think any one of the commercial jigs is THE best for ALL applications, but the inexpensive self-centering jig can certainly perform well in many instances.
I am looking for a self centering dowel jig that drills holes at 45 degrees. The jig you selected can be adapted but it's a bit cumbersome.
Brilliant video.
I enjoyed this video very much. Good information and excellent production value (use of different camera angles and external microphones). Like watching a grandpa I never had work and yeah me. Thanks!
Answered my questions and gave me some ideas. Nicely done. Thank you.
Those stools look awesome - one day I hope to be able to make something like that
Thanks for watching, Mark. Give it a try.
Thank you for making this video, it is extremely helpful!
Great job on that lil table looks great 👍
Those stools look great. Impressive.
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Nice job, many thanks for sharing your tips on doweling, much appreciated.
You always impress me with each tutorial. Thanks for all you do Sir.
Thanks for watching, Troy.
Great looking stools!
Beautiful work, Mr. Davidson. Thank you much.
First rate. Very clever adaptation, clear explanation. Never made dowel joints myself, but domino is not super accurate in alignment, which is only as good as eyeballing center mark left and right, and the fence rarely makes pieces fit flush in one plane. Sure like what you've done, which promises accuracy, and I hope to do the same!
Paul, I've found my accuracy with dowels to be much improved over pocket holes and the biscuit joiner. I haven't used a Domino but suspect that its alignment is on par with the biscuit joiner.
right you are
You did a great job on the video! Nice technique as well.
Thanks!
looked pretty dang good to me Earl, Thanks for sharing
Thanks Buddy, and thanks for watching.
You saved my life, thank you good sir
Thanks for the fantastic show.
Great craftsman
Thanks for watching.
Thank you,
I like the dust guard for your RAS I might copy it.
Nice job Earl...Looks like it would be easy to do. I have got one of those self centering jigs so I might try this out. Thanks for sharing it. I'm sure it took awhile to figure it all out.
Thanks for watching, Chuck.
I enjoyed your video. It was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment RM, and thanks for watching.
Very educational video! Thanks for making it.
Thanks for watching! I hope you found it helpful.
Awesome video. Thanks a million. 👍👍👍👍🎄🎄🎄🎄
thank you, very useful information, much appreciated
Thanks from Russia, man!!! Good stuff, nice job!
Earl i like your videos. I always learn something. happy holidays
Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas.
Thank you for the video. I think I'll buy the jig.
So helpful. Great video.
Thank you Earl
This is great stuff--thanks for sharing. I subscribed! It is so valuable to see how you approach getting the most from that tool by using what is presented to you. If I watch a few more videos I might start to think in a clever way like that soon :)
Really excellent video, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Great demonstration and review. I just ordered one.
This is gold
Great job.!!!
Great tips, thank you.
In this video, you're joining the edges of wood or the face of very thin pieces. What if I want to dowel together the legs of a table to the top plate of the table?
Very nice ….subscribed
Hey Earl, great video. I like the clamp you used to attach the work piece to your bench. Where can I get one of those?
Great work! Subscribing.
Great Video Earl Especially the heads up for the spacers at Lowes! I'm off to Lowes for some spacers they look to be about 1" lg.
The 1" ones are what I used. Thanks for watching.
very helpful, thank you.
Some real good tips
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Hi Earl, any guidance or tips on making drilling angled dowel joints? You needed to cut them on angled pieces for those beautiful stools you made. 90 degrees are straightforward, but those angled legs and aprons look tricky.
Great video.Thanks a lot.
Very good..
Thanks for sharing. That's a great looking stool you finished with and that dowel jig in your hands works just fine.
I know that a pocket screw jig would have shortened the work considerably but I'm not so sure the resulting stool would be as strong as one joined with dowels. Screws will normally work loose with time. However, the Kreg screws have special grooves in them that are supposed to prevent this. What do you think?
I've used pocket hole screws and have never had one work loose...but most of what I've built is stationary. The stools are subject to a lot of forces that try to pull the joints apart. Of course, using glue with the pocket hole screws will help. My problem with the pocket hole screws is that I can't seem to clamp my work pieces well enough to keep the screw from shifting the alignment. For me, the screws would absolutely be a time saver, but I believe the dowels will last much longer. Your mileage may vary. :)
That's it, I'm buying that jig.
hola soy de concepcion chile y me encantó esa herramienta, muy buen video explicativo,

Very very much. Thanks you
Thanks for watching Victor. There's a link for Infinity Tools in the description above.
Superb! Thanks for sharing...exactly what I needed to know/buy.
hi Earl. Please Help

Nice 👍

4:53 sand paper to inside sides
5:10 3 bolt references for next hole
7:10 block with distance dowel
Hi there I have a question by this Dowell Jig what is the minimum breit to make a hole. For example I have some piece of wood that mesure 1 cm or less. Thanks
The smallest bit for this jig is 1/4" or .635 cm. As a general rule your dowel size should be about 1/2 of the stock's width. You might be able to get away with this but be sure the dowels don't split the material. The jig will require spacers on each side of your material so that it will clamp tightly - but that should not be a problem.
thanks Earl!
do you know of a dowel jig that has a mark between the two lines so you can double dowel without moving the jig
Nice job on those stools -- exactly what I want. Did you do a video on that project?
Thanks, Earl. Just subscribed.
Thanks for watching! No, I'm sorry but I didn't do a video on the stools, but this did cover most of the project.
accurate project 👍
And all without measuring or marking for the joinery. Thanks for watching.
Does the Frech's Mustard hold wood pretty well..??? I might switch to that instead of glue in case I get hungry and want a Hot Dog...No really great ideas on the dowel jig....Im going to steal those ideas....Thanks..
Nice job. Did you use a jointer to get your stock straight and flat? Thanks.
Hi Earl. I've just bought on of these jigs (same brand) and I'm finding that the holes are wandering. Each time a hole is drilled it won't line up with others. No matter how carefully I drill the holes, a line of holes shows some up, down, left and right. I suspect the bushes have too much "slop" and also are too short. I think that allows the drill to angle slightly as it's being guided. It means that accurately aligning work pieces to dowel together is impossible. Have you found these problems with your jig? How long are the bushes on your jig and are they tight on the drill bits? Thanks
Gary, I'm sorry to hear you're not getting great results with your dowel; jig. I went to the shop to check mine. All three sizes of bushings measure 1-3/8" in length. The drill bits are easy to slide in and turn and have a very slight side-to-side motion when I wiggle them around in the bushings. It is not a snug fit. My suggestions: Ensure that the jig is clamped tightly to your workpiece, ensure that the bushings are screwed tightly into the jig. Ensure you're using the right size bits. I've never had an alignment problem with holes except for some operator error problems. I hope you can resolve your problems. If not, return it for a refund.
Thanks Earl!
I appreciate the time you took to reply and to measure the bushings.
I'm in contact with the retailer and they are investigating.
Gary, if you really want to drill accurate holes for dowels get a Dowel Wizard jig.
Hi Gordon. Thanks for the tip. I had a look at those originally but decided to go with the one featured on this review as the Dowl wizard was more expensive than what I wanted to pay to experiment with dowels. Maybe not in USD but by the time you convert to AUD and then ship it, it gets a bit exxy. I eventually gave away the idea of dowels and decided to go to pocket holes. They seem to be working ok.
Hello,Mr Davidson, I have a similar jigs from amazon,. unfortunately it doesn't quite accurate. I think the marking on the jigs is not very accurate. Anyway, I am in trouble Abt how to aim it accurately towards the workpiece. Could u tell me a bit more in detail Abt the making mechanism of the stop block? I think that's can help me to ease the problem
Genius
Hello Earl. Great video. I just recently purchased the same jig and right away came across a limitation that I did not forsee. I would like to make a box using 2 by 4's short sides up. The jig will do the ends of the boards just fine but will not work so well for the sides of the adjoining boards. I was wondering if perhaps you have run into the problem. If so any solution?
I think you are trying to drill into the 4" side of the 2x4. This jig has a capacity of 2 inches only. There are "wide capacity" versions available that expand to 6 inches but I've not found one with 4 inserts for each dowel size. An alternative would be a jig for the jig like in this video: czcams.com/video/ht0Q5MmwWsM/video.html
Unless I miss it by reading it or listen to it, where did you get your dowels from?
very nice
how wide of stock will that dowel jig fit? Good video.
Jason, this one has a capacity of 2". There are others available with a 6" capacity but I've been unable to find one with 4 inserts for each size dowel hole which was important to me. Since all of these dowel jigs APPEAR to be the same design I wonder if the center section from the one I have would fit the wide capacity jaws.
Thanks much, Earl!
My self centering doweling jig same model the holes are not centered
Very Very LOFIUS
nice work have you ever made dowels?
I've experimented some but buying the fluted dowels in bulk is so much simpler. Thanks for watching!
I use this Dowel Jig but with the Metric inserts because I am in Australia. No matter how much I measure or how many times I use it the holes are always off by at least 1 mm. When i see you using it you just drill as if it will always be accurate but it never is for me. The metric drill bits don't really fit that snugly so I am guessing the inserts are the problem. Has any one any suggestions?
Michael, I'm sorry you're not getting good results. I have no experience with the metric version of this clamp. I've found all of my inserts to be accurate with no wobble of the drill bits. Has anyone else experienced Michael's problem?
What's the maximum jaw capacity of this jig?
Great mods
How did you get the 1/4'' reveal where the skirt comes into the leg?
Skirt is 3/4" stock and leg is almost 1-1/2". Dowels are centered in both pieces. Reveal is the same inside and outside. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. That was easy. Do you know how to get the reveal if the skirt is 3/4'' and the leg material is other than 3/4 or 1/2'' thicker?
Just use an appropriately sized spacer on one side of the workpiece.
Great ideas I bought a self centering jig from harbor freight . Worst tool I ever bought
I'm sorry to hear that, Chris. Mine has been a pleasure to use with no problems whatsoever. Thanks for watching!
I believe that's quite likely with a lot of stuff harbor freight has to offer. Good for cheap but not great quality
@kennyearings1 has a nice review video of a similar dowel jig: czcams.com/video/rV0NHHrXSKA/video.html
Maybe it's just me but I think it's somewhat annoying to have to make jigs to help the jig. Ugh
