You are a crazy person, and I'm here for it. You really just went at this blind? Seriously? OMG. I assumed this had involved a ton of planning, and knowing how much you need when, etc. But watching it, this does not seem to be the case!
I think you can do this in 11x9: launching a rocket in a silo costs less energy than 4 accumulators can hold, so you can charge them, on the left side with a pole in the middle, and then place the rocket silo next to it, you'll need efficiency modules and a lot more resources, but it's possible. (unless I missed something)
@@DocJade So I've been cooking a little and managed to launch one using 3 efficiency 3 and 1 speed 4 module, it's still minimum energy but goes 50% faster which is how you barely have enough energy left at the end. But honestly the biggest problem is logistics, you need so many items and you only have one spot left for a chest. I fiddled around with having 600 bots carrying them via personal roboports, but it just was barely not enough. Maybe someone with more of a clue on how bots work can figure it out Edit: it's also absolutely necessary to landfill the water Edit2: Maybe you can do it by "storing" items in the crafting queue

Interesting idea And this is one of the reasons I love the Factorio community Everyone is always doing something different and pushing the boundaries Great video
Soooo... with some testing you can go smaller. A silo with 3 efficiency modules, and 1 speed module, can build and launch a rocket with the power from 4 fully charged accumulators. If you build a couple of spidertrons to hold all the inventory you'd need (since you can't place chests, and need a full 1000 of each ingredient for the rocket), you could landfill the water for the last stage and complete the rocket in an 11 x 9 world.
DocJade videos are always crazy and funny to watch, love the random jokes like the star wars crafting menu as well. Bit too heavy on the science queue shoutouts sometimes, explaining builds would be more interesting than going over the science completions

If we had the alpha boilers (which were 1x1), you should technically be able to do this on an 11x9 platform (steam engine is 2 wide, so you'd still need at least that (you'd also need the old steam engine, cause in those days, steam was just hot water)). It's very nearly possible with the current boiler, but you wouldn't be able to get the steam out (unless you can rotate a boiler such that some of it is sticking off the map?) Anyway, nicely done! Excited to see what next self torture, I mean, challenge run, you do next!
I'd love to see each of the "specialized" 12x9 segments separated by a 1 tile space and connected with logistic networks. Kinda like a computer chip and the robots travel along the wires of the logi networks

Maybe a nice idea for a speedrun would be this except that you can fast forward while afking (= standing still with no inputs for > 20 seconds can be counted as afking for this purpose), and the afking doesn't count towards the final time.
